Very very sad the prospects tournament is not going to be on TV. Apparently the small rink was too difficult to set up for TV, or so they say. We are playing the Rangers at 3 PM. Hopefully someone will at least be tweeting or something.Good article http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=497659&navid=DL|NHL|Home

9/8/2009 10:42:03 AM
ok so boot Leighton and bring in Murphyproblem solved
9/8/2009 2:42:57 PM
wrong.Leighton is a capable backup at a minimum amount of $$$. he's on the last year of his 2 year deal this upcoming season.Murphy needs minutes at the AHL level, not watching Ward play 75 games a year while riding the bench. if has a stellar year next year in the minors, bring him up and let leighton go.but not this year.

Mike Murphy has never played professional hockey. That's all you need to know about his prospects for being an NHL backup this year.
9/9/2009 11:24:26 AM
9/9/2009 11:27:49 AM
ok show the one against the Rangers where he is flopping all over the damn ice and the announcer goes, WHAT WAS THAT...........one game doesnt mean anything
9/9/2009 11:29:35 AM
or the Flyers game where he let in 4 goals in about 10 minutes.http://www.canescountry.com/2009/8/11/984914/canes-country-exit-analysis?ref=yahoo[Edited on September 9, 2009 at 11:45 AM. Reason : .]

Ward - 2.44, .914Leighton - 2.92, .901Those aren't ugly numbers. But yeah, throw a kid, even a damn good one, against NHL players in his first pro season and see what happens.I remember Ryan Miller's first NHL game, straight out of college. He was scared shitless, challenging way too much and looking like a fish out of water, and played only sporadically in the NHL until three years later...and I'd think you'd agree that Ryan Miller is a damn fine goalie.
9/9/2009 11:34:49 AM
Ryan Miller and Michael Leighton are NO WHERE NEAR the same talent levelI mean, Leighton could become a good keeper but last year was horrid with the exception of a few games. This year, we can't afford to ride Ward for 75 games at the end of the season. Ward needs a break.
9/9/2009 11:37:50 AM
I'd still take Michael Leighton on his worst day over John Grahame on his best day.
9/9/2009 11:40:17 AM
I was comparing Miller to Murphy. It's a good example of no matter how much talent you have, a kid in his first professional season is gonna get hammered in the NHL, and it can be a serious derailment in his development.See also: Fleury, Marc-Andre ]
9/9/2009 11:40:35 AM
Oh ok. To be honest I was being sarcastic when I was talking about replacing Leighton with the rook. However, I still think we need some kind of veteran behind Ward and not some AHL goalie. Unless Leighton learns to adapt quickly to the NHL, he just doesn't seem like a long term solution for backup.
9/9/2009 11:44:32 AM
I don't think any adjustment needs to be made, as he's been playing in the NHL since 2003, he just needs to put an element of consistency in his game. You and I both know that he had some atrocious games, and the quality of his numbers indicates just how good his quality games were...he just needs to get there and stay there. The standard Mo system of goalie deployment should help with that, as opposed to the Lavi "just keep playing" system or the alternate Mo "holy shit we have to make the playoffs" system.I wouldn't be opposed to a veteran backup, but there's no one available who I'd consider an upgrade from Leighton. ]

Response about no preseason tickets:Glad to hear you are pleased with your seats! In past years the NHL scheduled us for 3 home preseason games and we were able to include that 3rd game in all of our packages at no additional cost. This year, however, we were only scheduled for 2 home preseason games. Since the full season ticket holders pay for those games as part of their package we could not include one with our mini-plans. I hope this clears things up. Please feel free to call if you have any questions or if I can be of any help.
9/11/2009 9:14:48 AM
That response doesn't really make any sense. Oh well guess I'll pick up the $10 ticket (if they are doing them for preseason) for the first game.
9/11/2009 9:59:16 AM
WHAT THE HELL OBAMA?!?!?in other news...Phillipe Paradis wasn't invited to the Hurricanes training camp....interesting.
9/11/2009 10:41:28 AM
from what i can tell, he didn't do much of shit at the tournament.
9/11/2009 10:54:39 AM
I think they are consolidating the camp a bit this year since it is shorter, and only inviting players who have a legitimate shot to play on the team this year. It's safe to say Paradis does not.
9/11/2009 11:13:39 AM
ok, i was wondering, because he seemed pretty highly touted when we got him. guess he just needs some development time
