As much hype and attention as Eli FairyBoy Manning gets on TV; i just do not think he is anything more than an average QB. Nothing about his game yesterday was extraordinary. Without his running back pummeling our defense and his O-Line giving him enough time to practically rub one out in the pocket; he'd be doing jack shit.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on Jake Delhomme

So much hate and blame in this thread for a game the Panthers were a few feet to the right from winning. Calm down, they are still a very good team and if we meet the Giants in the NFC championship game, we know we can beat them, especially if Kemo is back so they don't rush for 234732942 yards on us. I thought Delhomme played well, especially on some big third down throws, and didn't make any major mistakes. This team is ready to make a run in the playoffs, no worries.Hahahaha, in case no else noticed, DWill now has 1337 rushing yards on the season [Edited on December 22, 2008 at 9:48 AM. Reason : :]

I think I hate hearing Eli being interviewed more than anyone in the NFL.His voice is even more grating than Delhomme's, and he's basically a human cliché machine.
12/22/2008 10:05:57 AM
I am happy as shit the Panthers lost.
12/22/2008 10:11:42 AM
if we beat new orleans and get the 2 seed, I'll rest easy... how long has it been since the number 1 seed in the NFC went to the superbowl?
12/22/2008 10:14:07 AM
Two years

Key (bad) plays to me: Charles Johnson on first series forcing Eli back into the pocket only to have all day to throw the ball, huge letdown from peppers and company (but nice play by Johnson). The holding by Smith, huge play. The studder step by Kasay, but FG kickers are quirky guys by nature.I thought fox only made one bad decision all night. Being conservative was fine with me, I'm sure they were doubling Smith after that first big catch. However, with 2+ minutes to go in the 1st half with the ball 1st and 10, you can't give up a score, I was screaming at him to run the clock out to the locker room...We have one of the sickest one two punches in the NFL with Smith and Moose. I'm afraid that in the playoffs DelHomme is going to have to fit a tight ball in a tight spot instead of throwing it up for grabs and he won't be able to do it, and a catastrophic INT will result. So far, it hasn't come back to bite as the panthers are still in great shape for a two seed, but the playoffs is for the star QBs to make plays, DelHomme is going to have to step up. Next week is bigger than last night, hopefully the DL can put it behind them and beat N.O. The Saints have nothing to play for, but that usually means they play harder, but no reggie Bush, anyone else out for them?

Putting the game in Jake's hand instead of running the ball was the reason we floundered. 3rd and 3 should've been a run call.
12/22/2008 11:05:47 AM
I'm not buying the studder step as some sort of problem from Kasay. Kickers often make little adjustments like that depending on how the snap went off and whatnot. It looked like he hit the ball well, probably exactly how he intended to. The wind just caught it at the last moment and hooked it severely. Obviously he should have tried to account for that, but that's easier said than done. It's hard to get a feel for the winds down there, especially with the way they swirl around inside that stadium.
12/22/2008 11:09:49 AM
Same thing happened to a couple of my approach shots at eagle ridge on Friday. :-) Hard to adjust for wind, and Giants Stadium for those who haven't been there has an unpredictable, swirling wind. I think he kicked like he wanted and the wind just took it more than he thought it would. I would take him on the Packers any day :-)
12/22/2008 11:23:42 AM
shoulda known it was bad news when they said kasay missed a 17 yarder in pregame warmups
12/22/2008 11:27:00 AM
12/22/2008 11:29:08 AM
technically if you're on the 1 inch line, it would be a 17 yarder.in practice you can spot the hold where ever you want to anyway though

we need Kemo back for the Saints game
12/22/2008 12:15:03 PM
I think this loss has irked me more than even the Bucs (who I can't stand) completely trouncing us earlier this season.
12/22/2008 12:18:30 PM
^^^That's the standard play call. You never pass while standing in your own end zone, especially when you're up against a pass-rush like the Giants have.[Edited on December 22, 2008 at 12:21 PM. Reason : -]
12/22/2008 12:20:28 PM
I think it would have been better to man up with the pass to get that 1st down; worst case we take a safety. Scores 28-22, we punt the ball deep into Giants territory and hold them. Instead of playing grab ass on the 3 yard line than punting the ball to midfield. Where a couple of plays puts them back in the end zone.
12/22/2008 12:26:21 PM
I agree with the poster above though. Oddly, I think we should've passed when we were backed up against the goal-line, and ran the ball on 3rd and 3. I know, I know, easy to play Monday morning QB. But I think in both situations, that would've been the best call given the situation.[Edited on December 22, 2008 at 12:43 PM. Reason : ]

^^ most the stuff i've bitched about play wise; i was complaining about as it happened even before the hindsight could come into play^ well you could argue that after two runs the giants were expecting the run....fox's sneaky plan that does not fool anyone is, oh we ran the ball this time lets run it again and hope they are not expecting now.[Edited on December 22, 2008 at 1:09 PM. 12/22/2008 1:08:25 PM
Some of those rushes on 3rd down could have been passes to the back for better gains.
12/22/2008 1:10:25 PM
To make this loss worth and as salt in the wound now we are forced to endure weeks of blabbing from the NY biased mediaZOMG Giants #1 best team in NFL...We love Eli manning....Giants contenders for back to back super bowl.... Incredible victory to secure homefield advantage; fans are surely happy... blah blah blahhopefully they get knocked out in the Divisionals. I'll laugh and Eli will cry. While the sports announcers will bicker about whose to blame and that they always have next year.

^^ As a panthers fan, I was assuming run, and I'm fairly certain the giants watch more film than I do. Everyone knows the panthers like to run on third down more that most (everyone else?).
12/22/2008 4:30:02 PM
this one will sting for a while.
12/22/2008 4:33:32 PM
it will sting until we beat them in the NFC championship game
12/22/2008 4:35:12 PM
the Giants player that kept the ball from going in the endzone deserved the game ball....when that happened, I knew we were in trouble. I am just hoping we beat the Saints...Lucas will get burned for at least 1 TD in the game....
12/22/2008 4:37:32 PM
I am just happy to be in the playoffs. That being said I think we can go on a run in the playoffs. We haven't lost 2 games in a row all year. Should see what happens vrs NO. If we lose and have to travel to Chicago or Minnesota count me worried. Host the winner of minn/chic vrs atl I wont be as worried. Thats why i like football though...
12/23/2008 1:04:33 AM
i went to the bathroom with a buddy of mine at halftime in the stadium, im standing in line and a guy grabs my shoulder turns me around spits in my face and punches me in the mouth. for no reason other than i was wearing my panther gear.fuck new york, fuck the north, and fuck yankees.
12/23/2008 9:56:00 PM
loldid you pull an Alfie or di you hit him back ?
12/23/2008 11:43:54 PM
^^ that is fucking crazy
12/24/2008 12:01:37 AM
punching him in the face was my immediate reaction. i think i connected with him with my left but it all happened so fast and we were pulled away from eachother in an instant that i couldnt tell if i made him bleed. surprisingly, security sided with me and made me file a report, even though i just wanted to get gauze and go back to my seat to watch the game.
12/24/2008 7:32:41 AM
i thought that was DeeDee, not Alfie
