^^^I used to use Vick and roll out every play. Either someone would be open or I could run it up field for a first down. I've tried doing it with McNabb since Vick got in jail, and it still worked some, but not as much. I like playing NCAA Football better.

He also played behind quite possibly the worst offensive line in the NFL 8 years ago (I think that's how long it was)... I think even Peyton would have had issues with it.

Leader - yes

NFL Quality QB - well... He made it didn't he

Top 80% of QB's - not hardly

Consistent - No, but technically that is in Delhomme's favor, at least he isn't consistently bad

Height of play - can take a down and out team to the super bowl

depth of suckage - Can throw 5 interceptions and fumble the ball in one game (and almost start the first preseason game the same way)

He has the character traits and qualities of a good leader (ie -leadership), but he doesn't consistently back that shit up with skills. He, on average, had a better season than Ben Roethlisburger last year, but inconsistency is the reason he sucks and it's the reason he needs to be replaced.

Replaced with who though? We tried drafting Basanez, bringing in Moore, McCown, etc, but none of those guys have proven to be any better...what QBs are available that would be a significant upgrade?

As long as J Rich owns the team though, its going to be a run first team...if you want a team who airs it out 40 times a game, pick a new team cause the Panthers are never going to do that. The Panthers are trying to groom a replacement for him, but they're never going to spend top dollar for the quarterback position, its not a high priority for this team...they'd rather have somebody who can manage the team to 12-4.

And if our defense was worth a damn last year, and we didn't start calling passing plays early in the Arizona game, who knows how the season would've ended?

The season DID end with five interceptions and a fumble.

I like a run first offense, but having a QB that can:

1) scramble well, or
2) pass well

is essential to opening up a running game for any offense (look at the difference in gameplay when NC State puts Russel Wilson into the game versus one of our last three QB's). Some days Jake is awesome, other games he's just plain awful.

I don't have a specific replacement in mind. ANY replacement would do. I think the panthers need to keep bringing in rookies to fill the spot and whenever one clicks go with him. 12-4 ain't bad while we wait, but could we go 14-2 or 15-1 with the right QB is the question.

Plus, it's WAY less frustrating to watch a game with a good QB versus one that sucks. I'll point to NC State again for proof of my point.

I'd take 12-4 every year and be ecstatic with it

Granted we don't go 12-4 every year, its usually more like 9-7, but you can't downplay our season as a body of work last year

I actually agree with astallengine's breakdown of his pro's/con's of jake delhomme- i've never liked him, so I'm a little biased in this thread, but I'll say my biggest reason is his apparent need to get the ball out of there as quick as possible, and not looking at all his options- 99% of the time, it seems like he has his mind made up on who he is going to throw to before the ball is even snapped. Also, he tries to force things (with a playmaker like smith, that can work)

I am not saying he is a bad quarterback, I just don't like him (I was also in the boat of "lets bring vick here to complement our running corps," so you can begin to flame any time now)
