Yeah, those A* gloves don't have a whole lot of venting, so it works well. Beyond that, perhaps heated grips? Would probably help quite a bit if you're riding in cold weather for more than a few minutes.

i used to buy a big box of hand warmers and put them inside my gloves on the palm side and the heat would fill the gloves well enough to warm the tops of my hands

Not to derail, what are my best options for a armored jacket? I really like the idea of the armor being removable and budget is a bit of a factor.

How much are you looking to spend? There are a number of pretty good textile and mesh jackets with armor that are under 200 dollars.

For winter, I'd suggest a pair of ATV mitts for the bars. I needed to use 16g wire to make sure they did not press the levers at highway speeds, otherwise they are the best thing ever. You can get them in black or camo. They keep the wind off your gloves, so it makes them much warmer. Right now I have those and some really heavy Olympia gloves, good for highway riding into the 40s. Last night the rest of me was begging for mercy but my hands were good.

I am also taking suggestions on windproof shirts. I am looking at http://stores.knoxarmor.com/-strse-28/Cold-Killers-Wind-Buddy/Detail.bok?sfs=69abeb42 for Christmas and if I like that then I may buy the pants to replace my under armour ones that are not windproof and I have to wear jeans with so I don't freeze.

I've been using fleece long johns I bought at Wal Mart for a base layer in cold riding, they're super warm. I've tried out the hand warmers and a several pairs of gloves without much success yet.

This may be a really dumb question, but anyway, here it goes. What is the difference between a cbr600f4i and a cb600rr? I realize the cosmetic differences obviously, but is the engine de-tuned(like katana vs gsxr) or are the ergonomics different(rr being more aggressive, while the f4i is more standard)? What else?

i wouldn't go so far as to call the f4/f4i a sport touring... but it is definitely not as dedicated as the rr. the rr is what you'd call a "race replica". basically, it's a race bike that's street legal. if anything, i would say that the f4/f4i more emulates the definition of a true sport bike, and the rr is a cut above. i think the term "super sport" is even being thrown around now to classify this latest breed of monsters.

like you mentioned, very similar to katana vs. gsxr, yzf600 vs. r6, ninja 650r vs. ninja zx6r, etc.

An F4i and can-o-tuna should not be compared. The F4i is still light, nimble and air cooled while being more comfortable for longer rides.

brain fart, the Katana is the one that was air cooled until they redesigned it. I really do know the F4i is liquid, have do idea why I typed that.

The 955i-T595 daytonas?

What do you want to know? They are EFI, conventional forks (can swap in GSXR forks and triple with a couple custom machined parts), most annoying part is the plastic gas tank, can't use a magnetic tank bag so I'd suggest a tail bag. Like any sportbike, stock suspension is way too soft.

My boyfriend has 3 and a ton of extra parts. If you want to buy one or just want more info let me know. He's bought about 5 wrecked with clean titles and put together 3 complete bikes with the best parts out of the group, then painted the plastics to match. He's going to sell the one he's riding now (carbon fiber pipe, GSXR forks, black paint with blue pearl and gloss black powder coated rims). Not sure if he's gonna let go of the corbin or sargent seat and some of the other goodies.

I rode my 600rr to Greensboro last friday night. Was pretty freakin cold, lol. For the ride back on Saturday, I stopped by Wally World and bought some Hot Hands (& Toasty Toes).

i rode the rebel over to ryan's last night, so we could use the ultrasonic cleaner on the carb, replace the tensioner (the chain is crazy/scary loose and the original is stripped something fierce), and replace the airbox/hose

of course it rode perfectly instead of topping out at 25mph like i expected it to

i think we'll use the ultrasonic cleaner on it later this week or next weekend and then, hopefully, i'll be able to put more than 30 miles on it (which is all i've gotten since i got it several months ago)

'91 cb250 6000 miles

I think I fouled my plugs or something. I ride basically everyday, but the choke is often partially engaged because I ride very short distances to and around campus. Today, when I started it, the bike sputtered a bit, like one of the cylinders was not firing or something. When I pulled out, I had half or so power (one plug not firing?). After about a mile, it started firing and all was well. I don't think it's the carb because the problem was only in one cylinder and the carb feeds both. So any advice is appreciated but my real question is where can I get plugs close to campus?

advanced auto on western should carry the plugs that u need.

or just take them out and sand paper the contacts up, ghetto but it usually works

I've heard you aren't supposed to, but no one has ever told me why. I would guess an extra rich mixture would just gum the carbs quicker and foul the plugs in extreme cases, but I have no idea what other problems it would cause. Perhaps someone with more info could enlighten me?

The choke is basically adjusting the mixture of air and fuel, making the engine run richer so it's easier to start, the most immediate problem it can cause is fouled plugs, which is just a pain in the ass. You can also cause engine damage in the long run due to running far too rich. Always disengage the choke as soon as possible, and always before you start riding.

If you are short on cash, order plugs and a couple oil filters from rock auto. Cheap and they ship fast.

of course it is best to get new plugs but if u don't have the cash or the time to wait for some to come in, just clean the contacts up with some high grit sand paper and they will be fine.

uh, this is a clear case of operator error. it's not the bikes. you need a back to the basics lesson on gear selection, throttle input, rev matching, etc. congratulations, you've successfully mastered the one and only way to make a 600 boring. under riding and lugging the engine. not to mention you create a high level of danger to yourself and others on the road riding in a manner that renders acceleration nearly useless, can cause the bike to lurch/lock up the rear wheel, and stall unexpectedly. might want to give all that some thought before you go calling other people idiots. funny how no one else has this problem with larger bikes.

also, toyotafj40s might do some pretty ghetto stuff, but at least he doesn't lie about it or hide it for the most part. as far as i know, i've always seen him openly admit when he's rigged something and then goes on to joke/laugh about it. there is that whole blown up dsm story, but i'd probably blame that on the turd Ragged acting like he could build/tune a turbo motor. i wouldn't even let that idiot near a briggs and stratton.

lol the fail of a dsm wasn't ragged's fault. it was very nice of him to take it over to his house to work on it and he did the work for me for free. the problem was in the builder of the engine. every damn gasket leaked and shit wasn't even put together right. all of the work that was done at ragged's house was undoing what ghetto shit the original dude did. It got to the point where it was just a head ache to work on. I took it from the other dude's house bc he just stopped working on it and got lazy lazy despite me offering payment. Some kid wanted to straight up trade me for a running 240 with some mods done and I jumped at the deal. Then i sold that car for what i could to recover my losses, I wish i could have kepted it but this needed work too and I just didnt have the time or place to work on it.

What a goddamned idiot. Have you ever seen me ride the 600? I had it at deal's gap on a group ride, they'll tell you I am not the fucking idiot you are.

Let's be honest about this. The 600s are not really fun until you are well into the powerband, 9k and up. I had a 636 which would pull much better than most of them, still didn't enjoy it. I'd take a CBR if you gave it to me, then sell it and get an older bike with more midrange (maybe, been wanting to test a FZR400/600) or a 675. I want something I can flog all through the gears. 250 tires cost half as much too, major consideration when you have a couple of them and do 10k to 15k miles a year. I refuse to be the douche that rides around at 35mph and 9k rpms on a 600 in first and makes EVERYONE hate sportbikes. At the fun RPMs the 250 is much quieter. Very important when you live in an apartment and don't want the thing vandalized.

just because you can fully utilize the working powerband of 250 while driving through town does not warrant such an offbeat, generalized opinion of race replicas and their riders.

first of all, deals gap is nothing to brag about, second, you seem to have no problem riding 45-60 there, but bitch about it around raleigh

theres nothing wrong with running 7-8k plus around town, as long as you dont have an annoyingly loud muffler on it

if its geared too high for riding around town, then put a smaller sprocket on, itll give you better acceleration, and keep your rpms up, will you top out at 140 instead on 170? yes, does it fuckin matter, no

you have yet to make a valid fuckin point, hell by your logic, you need to try pocket bike racing in parking lots, should be a fuckin blast and take more skill than an ama race
