What's wrong with that?

you can't outperform with an index fund
3/20/2007 12:44:18 PM
I'm not trying to outperform.
3/20/2007 1:02:30 PM

3/20/2007 1:09:16 PM
True, but easier said than done.
3/20/2007 1:19:19 PM

Isn't that exactly how he makes his money now?Manipulate demand by saying buy or sell on his show?
3/20/2007 3:37:54 PM
Pump and dump, baby.Pump and dump.
3/20/2007 3:46:12 PM
Not to mention is $1M+ contract and millions of books sold...........as well as he's been in this business since he was like 25 years old, he had a $450M hedge fund averaged that +25% for 10 straight years, he knows his stuff[Edited on March 20, 2007 at 7:51 PM. Reason : .]
3/20/2007 7:49:47 PM
no, that is not how he makes money on his show. i've been following Cramer since before CNBC had ever heard of him, and i don't think that's his M.O.Cramer doesn't do the pump and dump biz with the general public. he does outmaneuver other trading desks by running up/down derivatives prices. even then he isn't that great at it. Steve Cohen at SAC Capital is bloody awesome at it.i think the vast majority of the media is looking for the next Dan Dorfman. Dorfman was pump and dump back in the 90s, and he left a real bad taste in everybody's mouth.i suggest you guys look up these names. Cramer's worst crime is that he has become unberably annoying.

3/21/2007 2:07:37 PM
I looked at GS and JPM long and hard but ended up going with JPM.It just felt like too many people downgraded GS over the past few months.

I'm extremely light in the healthcare sector. Right now I'm just sitting on some IDEV and PFE and writing covered calls on them.Any favorites that I should look at?

and what does opening that many accounts do to your credit? good god
3/26/2007 2:46:19 PM
I've actually heard of people doing that before. If I wasn't looking to borrow money in the near future I would probably look into it. If you need more info, I see someone bring it up once I month herehttp://moneycentral.msn.com/community/message/board.asp?Board=YourMoney
3/26/2007 3:10:52 PM
it's called stoozing.http://www.stoozing.com/index.htm
3/26/2007 3:12:43 PM
that's pretty much how the Yen-carry trade works
3/26/2007 3:31:58 PM
there's been unusual volume in biotechs and small/mid sized pharma in the last trading few sessions -- go to nasdaq.com and click on the "most active" and "unsual volume" buttons on the left.a good bit of it has to do with a lot of upcoming clinical milestones & regulatory events, some of it may be a cycling into healthcare as a defensive play.

3/27/2007 9:39:36 AM
^ i am definitely looking forward to that
3/27/2007 10:25:59 AM
3/27/2007 6:01:48 PM
Does he have any good links?
3/27/2007 6:02:50 PM
stoozing sounds like it'll work for a couple of years until your credit is shot, i'm gonna guess that administrative costs + higher future borrowing rates will eliminate any benefits...and if it it was that easy (essentially a risk-free profit), then it would be eliminated via arbitrage.
3/27/2007 7:12:30 PM
From your post, it doesn't seem that you understand how it works.
3/27/2007 8:44:38 PM
oh shit, here we go
3/27/2007 9:34:19 PM
3/27/2007 9:35:47 PM
^^^ from the minute of reading that i did. it sounded like you open up new credit cards for the low introductory 0% rate, take that money and invest it in some guaranteed savings account earning ~5%, and make the risk free ~5% after you take it back out and pay off the CC debt which accured no interest...if this is correct, then i stick to my original post that this is poor idea...correct me if i'm wrong
