We have a problem. Kaberle and Stillman both have shoulder injuries. Kaberle's status for the start of the season is questionable, and Stillman is going to be out 3-4 months, which puts him on a timetable to return sometime in November.

Tanabe possibly returning to Carolina?

http://www.raleighing.com/2006/08/return_of_tanab.html
Quote :
"Good news, ladies. The Triangle Business Journal is reporting that former Hurricane David Tanabe was seen lunching at Restaurant Savannah yesterday with Jim Rutherford, Peter Laviolette, and others. Tanabe was traded on 6/21/03 along with Igor Knyazev for Danny Markov and a conditional 4th round 2004 draft pick. Tanabe was later traded to the Boston Bruins who on August 5 refused an arbitrator's contract decision of $1.275 million per year, making Tanabe an unrestricted free agent. The swiftly skating defenseman was too soft for the Canes before the lockout, however the new NHL may just offer the chance to shine to a player like Tanabe.

Personally, my favorite Tanabe moment was the lone goal we scored in Game 6 in 2001. Right up the middle and just beyond the north end blue line, Tanabe rifled one past a hot Martin Brodeur. The Canes had come back from a 3-0 games deficit and could force a game 7. An OT winner by Brind'Amour in Game 4 led to a win at the Meadowlands in Game 5. The Canes were not able to force a Game 7, so not long after the Tanabe goal, the Caniac nation was born as they lauded their eliminated team with a 5-minute standing ovation to end the decisive Game 6."

900 large and a one-way contract is NOT what I would consider "cheap" for Snuggles Tanabe. If this reclamation project works, then good for us and Rutherford looks like a genius. If it falls through, the signing will be the Malik Trade of the 06-07 season--and that will suck horribly horribly hard.

Now that Tanabe has been signed and the Canes have essentially ten NHL defensemen (including JJ), the rumors are SWIRLING that the JJ for Jordan Staal deal will go through after all.

55 is the minimum for their contract, and it's the same amount they announced originally last season. Last season they ended up adding 15 more, so I wouldn't be surprised if they do that again.

I now have 2 correct UFA predictions, John Grahame and now Brad Isbister.
http://www.carolinahurricanes.com/news/news.asp?articleid=1598 Good depth move and we are only paying him 600k and 95k in Albany

Just how likely is this... wishful thinking or actual murmurs.

Peat will not be playing at the NHL level for the Canes. He's either trade fodder or Albany depth.

All these signings seem to be building to something really big.

IGN posted the ratings for every player. How they have Cole and Staal as the fastest skaters on the team is beyond me.

I hope not because I like him even though he doesn't actually do that much.

Very very bad news: http://www.carolinahurricanes.com/news/news.asp?articleid=1604

Apparently Kaberle's shoulder wasn't healing as well as thought, because he underwent surgery and is going to miss 4-6 months.

Dear Jack Johnson,

Get your bitch ass down here and sign a contract, NOW. You already missed out on a Stanley Cup by staying in school, and now I'm willing to bet JR will throw a mint at you to fill a D spot. Don't be an idiot.

Love,

^ Plz to come up with a better option for a 7th defenseman, or even a 6th. I wouldn't complain if both Tanabe and Tverdovsky never played.
