I think it's still very possible that Singer will do a sequel. If it doesn't turn a profit, or if only a little profit in the theater they will get it out to video ASAP. If it does very well in that market they'll do another sequel. There are a lot of movies that bomb at the theater yet do very well with rentals, which in turn leads to a sequel. It's too early to say for sure that there won't be a sequel or that Singer won't be offered the job. I wouldn't expect as big of a budget however.

Director Bryan Singer has acknowledged that the less-than-stellar performance of Superman Returns has made prospects for another Man of Steel sequel a bit "iffy." The Associated Press quotes him as saying, "We haven't concluded a deal," but if a sequel gets a green light from Warner Bros, "the intention is to do it for [release in] 2009." Separately, Singer told Britain's Empire magazine, "Now that the character is established, I'd like to take the opportunity to bring in a more threatening element, a more terrible, foreboding element." Superman Returns, starring Kevin Spacey, Brandon Routh, and Kate Bosworth, has taken in $178 million at the domestic box office, below such other summer hits as The Da Vinci Code, X-Men: The Last Stand, Cars, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.

yeah Superman returns was awful- Singer also said at the San Diego Comic-con that if he had a chance to make a sequel it would be "all wraith of Khan" implying it would have a lot more action- i hope so because the first one was boring. In a recent interview Kevin Smith said he liked the Singer movie but added now that he (Singer) got all of the Jesus stuff out of his system I hope Superman can fight a bigger menace in the next movie instead of Lex Luthor and real estate, "i mean cant he fight a fucking robot or something." That last part is a direct quote from Smith the rest was just from memory.

This is not only the greatest comic book movie ever made. It's also in my list of top 50 movies ever made.
7/31/2006 11:34:57 AM
what makes you say that compared to others? batman begins was much better imo. not to mention Sin City. I can see someone saying top 50 personal favorites, but it has some stiff competition for "greatest comic book movie ever made".[Edited on July 31, 2006 at 11:54 AM. Reason : .]

^ It does have stiff competition, I agree. X-I and II we're great, Sin City was cool, and Batman Begins was awesome.I never read the superman comics, I mainly read Wolverine and X-Men, so naturally, I have higher expectations about those films, the characterization, and the story. But for some reason, Superman Returns is my favorite. Yes, there are a a lot of good comic-to-movie films.

supes returns -almost finished with 188 mil. domestic. Buy the dvd and maybe Warners will green light a sequel.

how much did they spend making the movie?

I def loved the movie. Sup. Ret. was not the typically "top this" action comic. And I thought it laid a great groundwork and background as well as catch up to make a "top this" sequel. A sequel should have more epic battles with someone of related powers and stature. It in no way diluted the movie IMO. III
8/30/2006 1:00:31 PM
Looks like the budget was around $270 million.
8/30/2006 1:12:43 PM
The only things I didn't like about the movie were the super-bastard and all the positioning of Superman as "savior". Not because it offended my religiously or anything, it was just pretentious. And of course you really had to stretch your imagination with the effects of the kryptonite throughout the movie (but I always suspend disbelief for comic flicks). It was entertaining 8/10... but I wouldn't buy it on DVD.
