Any word on when the Galaxy S 2 phones are coming to America?
5/5/2011 7:30:00 PM
Probably a noob question. But I have a rooted Evo. How can I tether using USB? I do not want wifi tethering.
5/5/2011 9:24:00 PM
I use PDAnet for USB tethering, why are you against wifi tethering? You can add a password and all.

i love pdanet. i don't even have internet service at my house. use my phone for all of it.[Edited on May 5, 2011 at 9:51 PM. Reason : fads]

wifi consumes more battery, makes the phone warm.. I would prefer charging the phone as I used it.. PDANet is $29 right? I wish there was a free alternative..

^ I downloaded it, but can't get it to work.. does it work for you?[Edited on May 5, 2011 at 11:35 PM. Reason : .]
5/5/2011 11:17:04 PM
pdanet is a one-time fee and you only have to pay if you want to visit https sites. well worth it to me. saves me a monthly bill.
5/6/2011 7:09:30 AM
Is it possible to mirror the evo and click on the interface from the computer? Like operating the whole phone from your computer.. like I want a 800 by 480 window on my desktop that I can open anytime use it to control my phone then get back to whatever I was doing in Windows..
5/6/2011 8:46:33 AM
When I move, I just hope I get more of a 4G connection than where I am now. Strong 4G = no need for internet, which would be awesome to save 50 bucks a month.

Anyone ever had a problem where the context buttons (back, settings, etc.) on the face of the phone no longer respond? OG Droid. I've already factory reset and that didn't fix it. Cleaned the screen really thoroughly too. Phone has never ever been dropped, wet, or mistreated in any way. I considering trying to flash a custom ROM to it to see if that does anything...
5/6/2011 5:42:37 PM
simple fix check, did you take the battery out? That happened to a coworker's blackberry and removing the battery fixed itAlso, I miss my HTC Diamond Touch that had free tethering [Edited on May 6, 2011 at 6:32 PM. Reason : xcvh]
5/6/2011 6:30:18 PM
^ Just tried - no luck. Thanks for the suggestion, though. Anybody else ever have this happen? The people at the Verizon store were no help whatsoever.
5/6/2011 10:19:09 PM
so i got the thunderbolt yesterday. love it so far. Ive had two blackberries prior so this is really my first smartphone. is there a good website to learn how to use this thing or good apps i should get lists etc?I want to stay away from any techy information and just get recommendations like "hey download this thing it will do ______ which is cool"
5/8/2011 7:21:30 PM
Androidpolice.com has an article ever week or so that shows some pretty good apps. I would look there.
5/8/2011 7:25:36 PM
^^you will definitely want to download ScoreMobile, best sports scores/lines app out there, you probably had it for Blackberry
5/8/2011 7:31:34 PM
what exactly is rooting? i see it voids the warranty so i dont want to do it, but why would some people?
5/8/2011 11:45:37 PM
rooting is basically unlocking your phone to its full potential...a lot of good apps require rooting because those apps need permissions to things that your wireless provider and default/stock operating system generally lock...in a sense it turns the consumer-mode phone into a developer-mode phonebut most root programs, ie z4root, have Un-Root options if you ever actually need a warranty swap

Filed an insurance claim on my Droid X today. Said they were out of them and were replacing it with a DROIDX2...Argued with the rep about it. Thinking it will come w/ a 2GB card instead of 16. Rep says different. Whatever.]
5/9/2011 12:59:29 PM
ha. The droid X2 isn't even out yet afaik.
5/9/2011 1:05:23 PM
Exactly...I was all:

any xoom owners get their hands on music beta invites you PM me plz!
5/10/2011 10:27:19 AM
me too, yo.
5/10/2011 12:11:50 PM
ice cream sandwich coming in quarter 4... lot of bling shown off, no major ui enhancements. but it will consolidate the platform...
5/10/2011 12:19:50 PM
I would like a Music Beta invite as well, if anyone has one to share.
5/10/2011 1:41:53 PM
Got the replacement. Was a Droid X w/ 2GB card, not a Droid X2 like the dumb CS rep said.Interestingly, was actually a brand new device instead of the normal refurb units that come from insurance. GPS works again and now I can make and receive calls.
5/11/2011 9:07:14 AM
I would also not turn down an invite.
5/11/2011 10:23:26 AM
^^ there were like 20 stories on tech blogs a couple months ago that the updated version of the DX (the one you got with the 2gb card) was being labeled as the Droid X2 by several vendors. The guy you talked to was probably going by what their system calls it and knows nothing about a new Motorola phone called the Droid X2 that doesn't actually exist yet like most normal people that aren't tech geeks and/or Android fanboys.[Edited on May 11, 2011 at 7:19 PM. Music beta invite please
5/11/2011 9:08:07 PM
well looks like the merge is available for Verizon but you can't actually purchase it from Verizon. O.ohttp://www.androidcentral.com/htc-merge-verizon-today-big-red-wont-actually-be-selling-it

^wtf, says its not compatible with my Droid 2
5/12/2011 5:15:11 PM
oh holla at my Evo.
5/12/2011 5:24:38 PM
^^ said to work with Droid 2 also http://www.droid-life.com/2011/05/12/download-netflix-for-the-droidx/^^^ nvidia probably doesn't have the DRM protection of the Qualcomm's. That's about the only good thing about them.]
5/12/2011 5:29:44 PM
No samsung epic support either
5/12/2011 5:30:15 PM
^^downloaded and installed, but it said that Netflix wasn't compatible with my device. I also probably don't have Gingerbread
5/12/2011 5:45:08 PM
Works fine here (CM7 Evo). For now...
5/12/2011 6:12:31 PM
Sigh, Epic 4G. No love yet again...
5/12/2011 6:57:43 PM
Im watching futurama on netflix on my rooted droid og

is there some trick to getting the watch espn app to work? i've got it installed and signed up and everything, but when i click on a game to watch (like bulls-hawks) it just sits on the main screen with the little loading circle
5/12/2011 10:06:40 PM
i was hoping the OG Droid would get the netflix loveat this point as long as the modding community keeps supporting the OG Droid i really don't have a need to upgrade until LTE gets turned on in Greensboro
5/12/2011 10:15:40 PM
So.... if my droid gets pretty hot somewhat frequently (right near the camera on the back), is that bad?It has also been freezing on me often and turning itself off. (Droid 2 global)
5/12/2011 11:43:13 PM
FUCKING NETFLIX LAUNCH FAILWhy not have the app working on tablets...the devices that have a screen large enough to enjoy video on.
5/12/2011 11:49:33 PM
^^That heat pattern happens to my Droid 2 when I have it in my car playing music while navigating with GPS. Sounds like something is running in the background, making the phone be active constantly which would run up the heat. I'd imagine the freezing/shutting off is related to that. A similar freeze/reboot deal was happening to my phone somewhat frequently but it took care of itself. Check your apps and see if there are any updates in the marketplace.
5/13/2011 2:13:38 PM
The lag and freezing is probably just that wonderful Blur aka worst ui overlay on the market.
5/13/2011 2:38:42 PM
Sprintegration + Prey = No Go? =\
5/13/2011 4:35:26 PM
Installing Gingerbread on my Droid 2ThePeter I'll let you know if I can get Netflix to work once it finishes installing the new OS...assuming in can get Gingerbread to install...got an error the first time trying to run the .ZIP from the Bootloader, wonder if I need to go back from Fission ROM to Froyo before it will work?[Edited on May 13, 2011 at 5:35 PM. Reason : .]
5/13/2011 5:29:29 PM
or instead of installing Gingerbread, perhaps I'll be nearly bricking my phone and forced to RSD Lite an SBF
