maybe he meant the optimism bandwagon. you are the eternal pessimist
5/13/2009 11:55:04 PM
fuck yeah! I thought we had no chance after the Maryland board posted that he was making his decision tonight but this is one instance where I'm ecstatic to be wrong. It looks like we may have two sports to look forward to now.

Just what the doctor ordered! We have quite the stout frontline on paper. Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge commitment!

It's funny that a bunch of people didn't want Costner to leave ( I didn't), but now I'm glad he did.Also, Lowe's reaction to the recruiting class[Edited on May 14, 2009 at 7:59 AM. Reason : ]

haha, make the animation shooting webs and pulling in recruits with said web.
5/14/2009 9:01:17 AM
Painter has a ton of upside considering he was at one point a top 20 recruit in the nation, just had a bad senior year it seems like. Hopefully Sid can get his mind right and get him to reach his potential and give us a solid line. I really hope JV works out for us, because I feel like next year we're going to have more people we want than scholly's to give and I'd hate for us to have to pass up on a 5-star like Cothron or Parker for a "project player". But, in Sid we have to trust, haha. It's not bad when you miss on your top 3 ranked targets and still land a top 20 recruiting class with 3 4-star players.
5/14/2009 9:10:23 AM
So I'm assuming that this pretty much closes the John Wall door, correct? If so, good, I'm tired of hearing about his ass.
5/14/2009 9:11:51 AM
Our recruiting class should be Top 15, perhaps even Top 10.
5/14/2009 9:12:33 AM
I don't think Wall is still considering us, but with that being said, I think if he wants to be on the team this year, I think they find a way. Even if that means a gray-shirt for someone(Davis I'd presume) or an academic scholarship awarded to someone(this was hinted at).
5/14/2009 9:14:00 AM
Great pickup....no offense to JV but I really didn't want to have to throw him in there this year. He needs a redshirt bad to beef up and learn the American game. Now we have Smith, Horner, Howell, and Painter to play inside and actually Thomas might could too so there is no reason to not redshirt him.
5/14/2009 10:09:34 AM
I think this guy and Lo Brown are our biggest pickups in this class.this is HUGE for us in so many wayswe now have a legit athletic backcourtthank GOD Dennis Horner may never see the court again in an active role.looking forward to the next few years

5/14/2009 10:25:31 AM
legit athletic backcourt as wellforgot that

^he was taken as an immediate need before we knew we' have another talented PF/C commitment. I still see no need to redshirt him though, unless we need to make room for one more recruit in '09. And then it'd probably be between him and Davis.
5/14/2009 10:50:03 AM
the point being, does the staff want him to take up a scholarship for a year longer than he has to?my guess is that no, they do not.
5/14/2009 10:52:16 AM
^ indeedRedshirting saves a year of eligibility, but not a scholarship. As long as you're here on scholarship to play bball, it doesn't matter whether you see the court or not.
5/14/2009 10:59:25 AM
5/14/2009 11:01:26 AM
^^thanks for clearing that up. Absolutely no reason to redshirt him.
5/14/2009 11:05:29 AM
quick question: how many pros have come out of maryland in the recent past?just something that came to mind after reading the UMD posts.

^Wow, we had noone go pro between '97 and '06? (i ain't gonna say nothing about the significance of those years )
5/14/2009 11:25:12 AM
^ i did a sort by "From" and it looks like he's had 10 players since 2000, and i think 3 big men in these last 10 years. Oddly alot of those guys still haven't received their degrees yet.
5/14/2009 11:29:06 AM
^^ Yeah, I remember when Hodge got drafted, there was a big deal about him being the first in 10 years or so. It was sort of hard to believe. Todd Fuller to Julius Hodge is a fucking chasm.
5/14/2009 11:44:51 AM
^^^^^^^^^^What's even more amazing is that we still ranked 3rd all time in the ACC based on that list.

Didn't Brown use to be a 5*, why the decrease in stars?
5/14/2009 1:38:42 PM
he commited to state
5/14/2009 1:55:59 PM
just found an old article on Deshawn Painter (thank you google cache)in the article it says:
5/14/2009 2:01:52 PM
9 of the 13 players on our team next year will be freshmen or sophomores
5/14/2009 2:22:41 PM
^^I was reading the beginning of this thread and quite a few posts say he was 5*
5/14/2009 2:33:46 PM
Yeah I think Brown was a 5-star and dropped down some because he switched positions his senior season. He started playing some point, which I couldn't care less about 1 more star if he learned how to run the point, that'll only help us this year to have another good ball-handler.
5/14/2009 2:58:31 PM
Brown was a 5* player on Scout and 4* on Rivals at the beginning. He was the #4 SG on Scout to begin with iirc. He should have been a McD's AA and will most certainly be better than Larry Drew, who I think we can all agree on wouldn't have been a Burger Boy if he didn't have UNC beside his name.
5/14/2009 3:12:16 PM
I'd rather him not be a McDonald's guy because he might've come in here swinging his cock around like he was King ShitNow he might have a chip on his shoulder and want to stick it to Drew, Henson, etc.

The whole McDAA process is now an official crock anyway. Yeah, you have your obvious choices but after that it's all about which school you commit to. It's a publicity stunt and little more. Certainly not an accurate picture of all the top players.
