how accurate are they? i guess if you think it looks $100+ worth of cool, then yes. <$200 could buy you a 10/22 that will do everything that thing will do. the 10/22 is pretty good out of the box and can be DIY customized down the road and made quite accurate. i don't see the purpose of an inaccurate rimfire.[Edited on October 26, 2011 at 7:14 PM. Reason : imo, no, not a good deal for a plinker. i'd rather have 3 $100 795s than that ugly thing]
10/26/2011 7:13:17 PM
For just a toy that you are buying for looks, then sure. If you want a real shooter, then no. You can search for reviews in them and see what people have done to make them better. For $200 I'de own one, for $300 I would pass. It is after all, a .22 pistol.

Dad owns a GSG-5, plagued with feeding problems. He ended up buying an HK MP5 A5, and it works much better. Also, @ Maxima - you bought everything else, but didn't buy the BAD?[Edited on October 26, 2011 at 8:03 PM. Reason : .]
10/26/2011 8:02:42 PM
Do people actually use the Magpul BAD? Never seen anyone bother with it
10/26/2011 8:29:32 PM
anyone with a ruger lcp had feed, ejection, or fire failures? i've had quite a few recently with a few different brands of ammo.
10/26/2011 9:16:25 PM
^^ I've got one, takes a bit of practice. Main thing is not so much an increase in speed, as it's not nearly as clumsy to do remedial action or lock the bolt back.
10/26/2011 10:14:12 PM
Spent a little money on the mosin 90/31. Should be a fun cheap set up.
10/26/2011 10:48:11 PM
all good points-i wont be buying that GSG.
10/26/2011 11:27:54 PM
Haha, I forgot about my BAD lever. I love it on my rifle, and I will put one on every AR that I build/ own.

^blazer, winchester, pmc, etc. I know the hydrashoks cause problems.only have one magazine, though I'm ordering another, partially because of this.I believe my grip is fine. my hand isn't hitting the slide and I highly doubt it's hitting the lock, though I'll pay attention to that next time. and these issues have been fairly recent, so unless my grip has suddenly changed...didn't see anything on the frame/rails/etc. last time, but again, I'll pay more attention next time.
10/27/2011 7:09:34 PM
Weird. How many rounds do you have through the gun?Does the gun jam in a pattern? For example, is it always the second to last round, the first round out of the mag when loaded 6+1, etc? When it doesn't fire is it because it's out of battery?
10/28/2011 12:51:33 AM
yeh. I have at least 500 rounds through it, if not closer to 1,000. i'll have to go count empty boxes to get a better idea. i haven't noticed a pattern, but the last time I was out I didn't really pay attention to that. and when it doesn't fire, it appears to be a decent primer strike (from my eyes) but I guess it's not the same as rounds that do fire.
10/28/2011 8:15:22 AM
if you put the round that didn't fire back in and try it again will they sometimes fire?
10/28/2011 8:49:12 AM
yes
10/28/2011 8:50:00 AM
I have a friend who did... after some good oiling and about 1000ish rounds threw it, it worked fine (he thought it to be the magazine spring, but really it just needed that break in period)
10/28/2011 8:58:46 AM
hmm, maybe I'll just go to the range and have an all out war with it then.

The Magpul FDE version of the S&W M&P15-22 is back in stock at BudsGuns - these are usually hard to find in stockhttp://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/70715
10/28/2011 10:22:14 AM
while it looks cool, and would be a great way to practice with an AR style gun, I just can't see spending 500+ bucks on a 22lr rifle...
10/28/2011 10:33:29 AM
Its pricey... the only justification I'd have for buying it would be the savings in ammo costs while still building muscle memory
10/28/2011 11:03:14 AM
It's still cheaper to buy a dedicated upper for a standard AR, and cheaper yet to use the drop-in kits that do pretty much the same thing.
10/28/2011 11:05:22 AM
anyone use promag magazines? the reviews are mixed. hoping to get a 15 round magazine for my LCP (getting a factory 6 round as well)
10/28/2011 12:28:00 PM
^^I think if I did it, I'd get the dedicated upper, because while the drop in's I've seen and played with worked absolutely fine, I here they have about a 5-7k round limit before they stop working well. haha all this would dependent on me getting an AR in the first place I was looking at this earlier:https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/69657I'm sure I could find better, but I have also always wanted to build my own (that way I would feel more comfortable taking it a part and adding/subtracting from it)

Does anyone here actually have or have owned an AR-15 BCG 22 conversion?I'm interested in one but haven't really done much research. Is accuracy good enough for plinking? Is the reliability really that bad?I'm pretty good at working on guns with hand tools, so if all one needs is a little fluff and buff to work then that's no problem.
10/28/2011 2:31:45 PM
considering the mag is longer than the gun, I won't be using it for defense/concealed carry just a range mag to alleviate some reloading
10/28/2011 2:32:05 PM
I didn't know if maybe you were thinking of using it as a spare carry mag. Lots of people will carry higher cap spare mags.
10/28/2011 3:41:25 PM
Avoid ProMag like the plague. I've never met anyone who had a good experience with them. Also, Fumber, you know where to get any Factory 228 mags? I've got a pristine 228 that I'm gonna pick up from back home this Christmas.[Edited on October 28, 2011 at 9:13 PM. Reason : .]
10/28/2011 9:09:07 PM
Woohoo! Picked up a used Glock 30 tonight that looks brand new. I broke my wrist for the 3rd time several months ago and it healed incorrectly so I haven't shot anything in a long time. I'm hoping I don't have any issues since, from what I remember, the 30 is pretty soft shooting. I've been wanting a 30 for years and never jumped on one so I can't wait to hit the range tomorrow.
10/28/2011 9:19:35 PM
I have a .22 BCG for my AR. It is finicky. Sometimes it runs 100%, and others I get every other round as a jam or FTf. When it is running well, I love it. I probably would purchase a dedicated .22 AR.
10/28/2011 10:22:19 PM
Sig P2022 9mm.Please discuss. I'm thinking about getting one for my next purchase and it conflicts with my "practical" thought that I should get a Glock 23 instead so that I have a system that matches with my Glock 27. Market price is around $460 with night sights and this Sig model is made in Germany if I recall correctly. Reviews have been nothing short of positive. Is it silly to step outside of practical?
10/28/2011 10:51:47 PM
What is so impractical about buying something other than a Glock?
10/28/2011 11:19:39 PM
^^^^^the factory mags I have were all purchased used off of sigforum. I've had no problems out of my mec-gar 228 mags. Some people say mec-gar makes sig mags. They do make a bunch of oem mags but I don't think they make the double stack sig mags because the mecgars don't have the zipper weld seams. I still consider them as good as factory sig mags. If you can't find 228 mags then the 9mm 229 mags are the same. I'd be nice if sig mags weren't so expensive. ^^^how is the accuracy? Do you think they're worth the price?^^i don't like the feel of polymer sigs. I own a 228 and 225 and IMO the classic sigs are great guns but if it's poly I'd rather have a glock, xd, or m&p. There's no real good reason, They just dont feel right to me. Any one I've ever seen irl has worked just fine and the owners like them. What are you going to use the 23 for? If I had a 27 and liked it a lot I'd probably get a 22 or 35 to go with it. Actually, no I wouldn't. I like variety. But, if I was buying it just for practical use instead of collecting then I'd keep my lineup simple with one full size and one subcompact of the same platform.
10/29/2011 12:46:27 AM
My drop in .22 BCG is nearly as accurate as my normal BCG at 25 yards indoors. I can't say for sure though, because I've never really paid any attention when just throwing .22's at the range through it. The dedicated uppers or full rifles will be more accurate. The reason is the chamber design and barrel twist are optimized for the rim fire as opposed to just working with it. Some people are saying 2moa on their dedicated .22 rifles. They have a full 1:16 (iirc) twist barrel and not 1:7 or so like a normal .223 barrel.
10/29/2011 7:31:04 AM
I'll chime in with a +1 to the mec-gar. I know they make OEMs for Berettas, and they have quality stuff.
10/29/2011 6:59:05 PM
^^My .22 BCG with my 16" 1:9 twist M&P will do almost as good as my 10/22 accuracy wise. It has kept several 3 shot groups under 1/2" at 50yrds with good ammo and scope.
10/30/2011 7:10:45 PM
Looking at the Vortex Viper PST... any one here used this scope? i've heard some good things but i'd like to here from people that have time behind the glass.
10/30/2011 9:14:10 PM
^^That sounds great. What brand is your 22 BCG?I don't really need impressive accuracy; 4MOA would be just fine. Some jams are fine too as I can make just about any semiauto work. I really just want to be able to plink with my AR for cheap.[Edited on October 30, 2011 at 10:01 PM. Reason : ]
10/30/2011 9:59:30 PM
Its a Stainless kit, not sure of the brand. Ciener maybe? I had a regular parkerized kit and it seemed to have a few more jams, not quite as smooth feeling to operate. The biggest problem with the .22 BCG is the mags. I use Black Dog magazines, and of the 3 I have one of them simply wont feed the last 4 rounds. The other 2 work flawless (so much in fact that I almost used the rifle at my appleseed shoot last month).
10/31/2011 7:38:41 AM
wdprice3, how's it going with the banks? who are you speaking to at each bank about the Dec 1 changes?any results (good/bad/other) yet?
11/2/2011 10:45:14 AM
I've got a draft that I need to edit. However, I haven't found any good contacts. All I can really find are general email addresses. I'm trying to find corporate mailing addresses, but haven't found them yet (haven't looked much either).I also need to revisit several branches to see if they're posted. I know SECU is; however, last time I was at First Citizens, I didn't see any postings (and I'm pretty sure they don't post as I've OC'ed in several branches with no problems). Need to check BB&T.Once the draft is finalized, I'll be glad to share it/take some input. I'm not the best author and I'm sure some people have some good/better information to add.Such actions work much better in volume, so I invite everyone to contact their bank(s), if they are posted as no carry. You can use my letter or draft your own. I'll also be glad to coordinate/collect banks and their contacts to distribute to all, in order to make this process easy for anyone who wants to participate. Post/PM me your bank(s) & contact(s) and I'll compile everything.[Edited on November 2, 2011 at 10:51 AM. Reason : .]

^Shoot me some of the info you've put together. I'd like to look through it and send some along as well. I've noticed there are no signs regarding any sort of weapon posted at the Fidelity Bank branch I usually go to... not gonna mention it until something goes up.
11/2/2011 3:12:46 PM
Will do. As a word of caution (tin hatting) I wouldn't mention anything to your bank unless you have verified, via a branch visit, that the bank is posted (checking all doors/windows). No need to bring it up if they aren't posted.

The upper for my new AR is taking shape.Added a Yankee Hill free float tube and low profile gas block. My budget is $300 a month towards the rifle, so I'm guessing two more months till it is complete.

Looks nice, but I still think that giant FS looks funky[Edited on November 3, 2011 at 10:57 AM. Reason : Is that an Aimpoint Micro T-1 with LaRue riser?]
11/3/2011 10:55:43 AM
Ok, I have my draft in decent shape. I'm open to PMing/Emailing you the draft for reviews/edits/etc; just let me know if you'd like to review it/use it.

Aimloint T1 w/ A.R.M.S qd mount. I'm going to change it to a Daniel defense fixed mount. I really don't need qd on this rifle.
