Not too worried about Purvis. He's going through a bit of a slump, and I think he started pressing a bit to try and get himself out of it which is making things worse. He's a freshman, it happens. People forget he's had some very effective games for us earlier this year. Some time on the bench should do him some good and I expect he'll get back to playing within himself.

We got 0 votes in the Coaches Poll. I don't know which one is preferred (AP vs. Coaches) but to not even get 1 vote is absurd. Even UK got a vote after getting their asses handed to them.

The polls mean almost nothing. I don't understand people's fixation with them. It's an honor to be #1 and if you're high up (top 5, top 10) then you get more exposure which can help recruiting. But who really cares if you're #23 or just miss being ranked or get x # of votes.

We know this team has the talent to compete with just about anyone. It's just a matter of playing good basketball and winning. Based on how we've played since the first half vs. UNC, I wouldn't vote us as one of the best 25 teams right now. From here on, if we win we'll be fine. If we keep blowing opportunities against inferior talent and playing down to the level of our competition, we don't deserve to be ranked.

Not to mention its free press, as most places only put up the top 25 team scores. So now when you want to find ours you have to seek out ACC scores. Plus as others have said recruits want to come to places that are consistently ranked. I was pretty excited about possibly landing Randle but to be honest this season makes me think that dream may be done.

They don't matter at all for seeding in the tournament. And regarding recruiting, I think NCAA tournament success, team system and coaching matters a whole lot more than being in the bottom of the top 25 in mid February. Getting the preseason hype was nice to raise our profile, but at this point all of our hopes for this season rest of playing mroe consistent basketball and making an ACC touney or NCAA run.

actually seeds 1-6 are generally based on the top 25 teams, with some wiggle room of course. then you get more favorable matchups. so yeah, it matters.

Despite going 3-4 in our last 7 games with our three wins being poor performances against Clemson twice and Virginia Tech, yes, there was some complaining over our not getting votes.

While the top 10-15 teams usually are the best teams and get most of the top 4 seeds, it's not like the committee looks at the rankings and assigns a seed based on what the AP says. You often see unranked teams seeded as high as #5/6 while ranked teams can drop down to #8/9. It's not about your rankings, its about your body of work. Right now, we need to care about playing better ball, winning games and then everything will work out. Caring about whether or not we're getting votes means nothing.

2 weeks ago we got 64 votes in the ap and 24 in the coaches. the next week, we had a close loss to a team they ranked 1/2 and an away win. That lost us 40 votes in the AP and all 24 in the coaches, that seems strange to me. Then we won again and lost more votes in the AP.

Meanwhile Miami has close wins at FSU and Clemson (same as us and could just as easily have lost) and they gain 3 first place votes.

we are 22 in BPI and 21 in RPI.

not to mention 3 of our losses came w/ our best player out and all but 1 more down to the last second and away, and 2 vs top 5 teams. That player is now almost 100%.

I think we deserve votes.

illinois got more votes than us, for gods sake. look at their resume and tell me they deserve more than us.

1. receiving or not receiving votes doesnt really matter
2. we deserve to receive some votes

i agree we arent entitled to votes but our resume certainly points to us deserving some votes. especially when you look at teams that are currently receiving votes and the actions that made us lose votes

but again, who give a shit. if i was writing letters to the editor you could say i was whining, i'm simply making a thought out appeal.
