^^Oh, I wasn't.I just was reminded of that on account of someone having some anonymous shenanigans over at PP in the recruiting thread.

The PP article makes it sound like we're neck-and-neck with Maryland. Whoever can offer him the most PT sounds like they'll get him. We have plenty to give if he'll come and compete for it.
5/11/2009 4:52:11 PM
He would get immediate playing time at the 5 behind Smith. This would be really good for us, b/c we could then redshirt Vandenberg and allow him to develop over 5 years. I think having JV for as a fully developed 5th year senior would be more beneficial to the program than to throw him to the wolves right away as a freshman.
5/11/2009 5:00:07 PM
I don't think you'd redshirt JV. If we got Painter, we would have 5 guys to swap around between the 4&5 spots (Horner, Smith, JV, Howell, Painter). By the start of ACC play, we could move horner out to the 3 and play tall against the ACC teams.

We have too many wing players right now. Having CJ start at the 3 would allow Brown to start at the 2 and Javi to start at the 1. We've got to get our best players on the floor at all times, and at the end of the year Javi and CJ were some of our best players. Besides Lowe seems to do better when he only swaps a few players in. Also we would be more athletic if we kept Horner at the 4 rather than the 3. I see Jordan Vandenberg and Josh Davis being guys that having them redshirt would benefit both us and them in the long run. I personally think we're going to have to be a pretty adaptive team if we are going to compete. In some situations we may need Thomas (provided he's healthy) to log a good many minutes to help increase our rebounding ability. That guy has some ups, hits the offensive and defensive glass hard, and has a good rebounding IQ (i.e. he knows where to be and how to get there).I see it shaking out like so:1 - Gonzalez, Degand2 - Brown, Mays3 - Williams, Thomas, Wood4 - Horner, Howell, Davis5 - Smith, Painter (if he comes), Vandenberg[Edited on May 11, 2009 at 5:43 PM. 1 - Gonzalez, Mays2 - Brown, Mays3 - Williams, Thomas, Wood4 - Horner, Howell, Painter5 - Smith, Painter (if he comes)That's how I think it would play out if Thomas can play. Painter might get about 15-20 minutes a game. Between backing up Smith and anything he might get from backing up Horner and Howell.

http://www.zagsblog.com/2009/05/11/chaney-to-virginia-tech/Former UF forward Allan Chaney is transferring to VT. This means that they are completely out of it for Painter, since they don't have anymore scholarships. They would have taken either, but Chaney chose first. St. Joe's, Providence, and Xavier were the others in the running for Chaney.

^well that is decent newsJust need him to pick us next. Definately would be a huge get and I wouldnt worry too much about the work ethic in practice. Sid will set him straight or he wont play.
5/11/2009 7:10:33 PM
So whats the story on painter? He was top 20 then dropped when ncsu became involved?
5/11/2009 7:51:44 PM
No, he was top 20 as a junior. Not as a senior.
5/11/2009 8:45:23 PM
He's 69th in this class I believe.

When did Scout upgrade Brown from the #8 SG to the #6 SG, and upgrade Howell from the #19 PF to the #16 PF? Was this awhile ago and I just didn't pay attention?

ESPN Insider: "DeShawn Painter narrows list to twoESPNU 100 uncommitted forward DeShawn Painter visited Maryland over the weekend and has narrowed his choices to the Terps and N.C. State, eliminating Virginia Tech, according to ESPN affiliate site http://www.insidemdsports.com."It was great," Painter said of his visit. "First I just got down there and went to dinner and hung out at my hotel. Then on the second day I went to a baseball game and hung out with the fellas."Painter will think over his decision this week and expects to make a decision before the spring signing period ends on May 20."

Brian Clifton is a fucking pimp. It's sad what he's doing to John Wall and nobody is doing anything about it.
5/13/2009 12:13:01 PM
man, if Wall goes to duke I hope the fans lay into him (if Duke plays at the RBC center this year, I cant remember the schedule right now)
5/13/2009 12:13:56 PM
funny how UNC fans seem to be the only ones who have major problems with Clifton
5/13/2009 12:50:20 PM
^^ I have no idea. The schedule has not been released yet. We played at Duke this past season and we played both home and away the season prior. I wish they'd just schedule it home and away automatically every season.
5/13/2009 1:00:04 PM
Duke game is at home this season.
5/13/2009 1:07:12 PM
^^^ I'd say after this debacle, NCState fans should have a problem with him as well. Admittedly, I haven't followed the whole saga that closely, but everything I have read from that assclown is downplaying us and our chances and until recently, everything I read from the mouth of John Wall at least included us in the mix if not mention us as front runners at times.
5/13/2009 1:28:23 PM

^Well, we got JV before Painter was involved. So getting Painter would change things a little. although i don't see JV redshirting either way. How often does that happen?
