I might have to break down and buy a Wii this Christmas (for the kid). I'd really only be getting one to pick up 2 or 3 games. Both Super Mario Galaxies and potentially Super Mario Bros. Wii. I'm kinda disappointed, I wanted to stay out of this generation entirely but if I had to get one console I would have gone for the 360, just for NCAA Football.

Something tells me that NCAA Football on the Wii sucks. I've only seen videos for '09 and it looks worse than my '06 copy for the original xbox. It seriously looks like something you'd see on a hand-held. Not to focus too much on graphics, but I would like some HD college football. If I wanted jaggies and dated graphics I'd just stick with the original xbox.

I guess I'll just have to learn to let go of NCAA Football. It'll never come to the PC and I don't see myself buying a 360 just for one game.

Now on to my real question. The Wii has been out for some time, so are there any plans for an upgrade or a new console in the near future? I'd hate to get one for Christmas just to see them launch a better console in 6 months.

I think they are probably already working on the next console, but haven't announced anything yet...probably another 2-3 years and then we'll see something.

The Wii is already making waaaaaaay too much money right now and is still blowing Sony and Microsoft out of the water. The second Nintendo announces a new console, Wii sales will drop cause everyone will just wait it out for the new console. It's gonna be a while.

Nintendo has no incentive to announce a new console any time soon. The 3DS will take the stage for a while (and I'm pretty excited about that.)

^^^ I got a Wii for the exact same games (Galaxy 1&2, New Super Mario Bros). I might also get Super Paper Mario and maybe Mario Kart or Metroid. If I knew there was a Wii2 or even just a WiiHD I'd rather have that, but I feel confident those won't exist for another 2 years at least.

I imagine you're right. NCAA is best on 360 or PS3. I wouldn't want to suffer through a Wii port.

As a disclaimer, I have slowly acquired all 3 systems over the years and this is how I use them:
360: All cross-platform games (for Xbox Live). Xbox exclusives (Halo, XBLA games).
PS3: I use it to play blu-rays. Little Big Planet was fun, I just don't play many games on PS3.
Wii: Nintendo exclusives, specifically Mario games.
PC: Starcraft II, Team Fortress 2, Battlefield: BC 2 (Just realized these are all sequels.)

^Up until now I've been exclusive PC for everything. Quite a few of the more popular 360 titles eventually make their way to the PC and most if not all have full 360 controller compatibility for the PC. There are a few next-gen games that I'd like to play that will never make it to the PC but I don't feel like I've missed out on much... except NCAA Football.

^Yeah, I mostly get things for the 360 over PC just because the majority of my friends have a 360 instead of anything else. Really the biggest factor in buying games (for me) is whether my friends are playing it online. Which is why I stick to Halo and Xbox Live.

Only two people I know have a PS3 and one of them plays his 360 more. And very few of my friends have decent PCs, the ones that do play World of Warcraft (which I refuse to play). The only games I absolutely must get for PC are just the occasional Valve, Blizzard, and Battlefield titles.

I just got the Wii to catch up on the Mario games I'm missing. That, and to have Wii Sports for any casual gamers that come over (ladies). I might give Smash Bros. Brawl another chance to win me over from Melee.

the wii actually had the upper hand on the football games for a yr or two for once when they had those new great motion controls on madden but I think it went back to mediocrity after that but I'm still not sure if i can buy another madden without using the wii remote now

It's pretty fun overall and you know exactly what to expect. Most of the old characters are in there as well as legend players so with the big teams you have a pretty good selection. I've rocking Shaq/Dwight Howard and Magic/Kobe lately. They did add a bunch of mini games as well.

Not a very deep game, but fun nonetheless

yea i've got it. i'm amazed at how it can still be fun with it being so repetitive, but its just as fun as the arcade version. i'm goin through as the bobcats with the mode where you beat every team. just try to play a couple games at a time so i dont get burned out.

This is a killer deal. For $35 you get a Nyko Wii Remote/nunchuk combo AND your choice of a game. The list of choices include Epic Mickey, New Super Mario Bros., and Super Mario Galaxy 2. I just fired up "The Conduit" last night on the Wii. I'm really impressed. Obviously the graphics aren't up to par with a 360 or PS3 but it has some of the best graphics I've seen on the Wii. The gameplay and controls are really good too.

I got NBA Jam for xmas and have spent maybe 2 hours playing it so far. It is EXACTLY like the arcade game was. It's really good if you have a short attention span and only want to play a game for 10-15 minutes. The best part is the play by play commentary is funnier than the arcade game. Will report back after I've played it more

Luckily, you get like 10000000 lives. I, too, noticed that the game go pretty difficult pretty quickly. I'm on the fourth 'world'.

This game is fun as fuck, though. Between DKCR, Goldeneye and Mariokart, I'm super fucking happy with my Wii purchase.

I recently got a Wii and DKCR. When playing DKCR the Wii sounds like it is constantly reading the disk during most levels (but not all levels). It's a short, loud noise that occurs at 1 second intervals. Is this normal for the Wii or for DKCR? After initial game/level loading the Wii is silent for all the other games - it's even silent for some DKCR levels. I just want to make sure the console or disc isn't defective.
