our program under doeren at one time was modeled after wisconsin, who recruits at a realistic level for uswe abandoned that model after he fired canada because he wanted to throw the ball more. which is fine, but now that the OC who gave us the new identity is gone we pretty much dont have one

i mean, oregon had to cheat to get 3* recruits from texas for a while there but they became competitive because they ran a different offense. now after like a decade theyve started to recruit at a higher levelyeah, you can run any offense with any group of players but the scheme isnt completely agnostic of recruiting. if youre not getting the best players you should probably do things differently than the best teams so you can get the best players for what youre doing
11/23/2019 1:17:59 PM
(The best players for any scheme are the best players regardless of scheme)
11/23/2019 1:39:56 PM
Oregon also has a lot more $$ and investment than we do.
11/23/2019 1:51:17 PM
Oregon became competitive because Phil Knight gives them ridiculous amounts of money.
11/23/2019 1:54:16 PM
^yes
11/23/2019 2:33:35 PM
phil knight is 81 years oldthey didnt start being competitive in the national picture until they hired the offensive coordinator of new hampshire
11/23/2019 3:25:40 PM
Reading on wiki it looks like the vast majority of Knights influence at Oregon started around 2007. With some stuff being a littler earlier than that. But I don’t know the whole history there.[Edited on November 23, 2019 at 3:32 PM. Reason : A]

Nah, he started donating millions to the school itself in the early 90s and donated more than half the cost to build the first indoor practice facility on the west coast in 1998.
11/23/2019 3:45:09 PM
Gotcha. I was just browsing wiki and they listed a bunch a stuff from 2007-present. But not as much from earlier
11/23/2019 3:48:08 PM
Bump
11/30/2019 10:22:03 PM
Hope he gets in the grad transfer QB market
11/30/2019 10:27:20 PM
11/30/2019 10:28:53 PM
So who will be the next coach?
11/30/2019 10:31:14 PM
We firing this bitch or what
11/30/2019 10:36:33 PM
can't let a first year coach beat you at home on a rival game.
11/30/2019 10:38:23 PM
He should resign tomorrow.
11/30/2019 11:01:43 PM
He better come up with a new plan at QB next year, that is for sure.
11/30/2019 11:04:05 PM
I would be okay with keeping Doeren if he makes some staff changes, mostly getting rid of Huxtable and getting rid of this co-OC crap. If he makes no changes though I won’t have much hope for next year and would be pretty mad as it will fit the narrative that he is stubborn. I’d also be okay if they fire him only if they are assured that they have a good hire lined up. If we fire him and end up just getting turned down left and right because we fired a coach that had back-to-back 9 win seasons then I would be mad as well, as allowing Dave to crap the bed next season then firing him would be more acceptable in the media and general public’s eyes.
11/30/2019 11:05:29 PM
The timing is perfect with Debbie leaving and Boo coming in. He could make the change now to set a tone and bring in his guy. [Edited on November 30, 2019 at 11:36 PM. Reason : Boo]
11/30/2019 11:35:50 PM
Heads need to roll, it's up to Dave if it's his
11/30/2019 11:40:24 PM
Dave has hired good assistants before, just needs to do it again. I do believe the OL coach he brought in is a good hire, but he needs to fire Huxtable and also consider trying to get Matt Canada back as OC. Why do our DBs never turn their heads and find the ball? That’s coaching.
11/30/2019 11:58:53 PM
Isn’t this the guy that almost when to Tennessee but we were scared to lose him and gave him extension?
12/1/2019 12:26:40 AM
I'm glad to finally see Hux go. At no point during his tenure could you figure out what exactly the defensive strategy was. You have to pick somethingPressure and rush the QB?If this is the strategy you have to cover everyone early. I thought it would fit our players best but we never used press coverage. You can't have a pressure philosophy upfront and leave a 10 yard cushion on wide outs. If your personell aren't capable of this then you can't play this way.Relax and drop back into conservative coverage? If this is the strategy, you have to keep everything in front of you. If your guys can't do that then you can't play this way. Gamble and lurk for interceptions? If this is the strategy, you have to have guys trying to jump primary routes and pick the ball off. You get beat deep more but you also force turnovers. Its a shame because we had so much talent up front a few years ago and wasted it. That should have been at least a top10 defense. It had championship level talent. I hope our next DC has a clear strategy that is visibly implemented on the field.

Hux is gone? Link?
12/1/2019 6:41:20 PM
No link because earl is just making shit up
12/1/2019 6:52:15 PM
Lol
12/1/2019 7:10:08 PM
BC fired Addazio and his ACC record is better than Dave's at Boston freaking College

12/1/2019 10:34:37 PM
I think the point was Steve has done more with less - mainly State actually has a fan base that supports the team
12/1/2019 10:35:44 PM
^Correct. Fan support is non existent and facilities are worse. Steve was also 4-3 against Dave with less talent.
12/1/2019 10:48:44 PM
Ah ok I understand the point

I’m sure Gibson, the guy we brought in from WV, will be a candidate for the position. Not sure who else...I’ve seen people mention Chris Ash. He and DD coaches together at Drake and Wiscy. But he might have better offers than us.

I'm only a troll because I know about things before everyone else here...

Good. A couple years overdue. Huxtable is a good recruiter and a great guy I've heard, but he was mostly terrible as a DCNeed to do something about the OC too. Whatever was going on this year with the dual-coordinators didn't work.
12/2/2019 12:05:37 PM
Some interesting tweets from Jarius Morehead, Jerod Fernandez, Germaine Pratt and Hakim Jones so far. Most players seem to support Hux.
12/2/2019 1:24:21 PM
Huxtable was liked by the players and apparently quite popular. Joe Giglio tweeted about that today. It doesn’t really make it right or wrong to fire him. And it doesn’t make his former players right or wrong for liking him and being loyal. I think it’s fair to say our D has under achieved and the secondary has been a constant weakness. Our offensive woes were much more of a problem than the D, but the D has its own issues as well.

Hux had to go, but he should have been fired a couple years ago. He's never been a good DC. But you know, he's nice to his players. We are in a really tough position now. Not sure who we can get understanding that he may be out of a job in 12 months.
12/2/2019 2:52:33 PM
No one ever thought Hux was a bad guy and Dave didn't want to fire him but when you have a season like this, you almost have to make a change and Hux was the weakest link. The defensive deficiencies are partially on DD but a stronger defensive coordinator may be able to override that. Dabo isn't the strongest defensive coach but it doesn't matter because he has the best coordinator. I know I will never get appreciation from some people (synapse, justin, rwoody) because thats how the internet works but I bring insider information and analysis to you guys and ask for nothing in return. The least I could get is an apology.
12/2/2019 6:49:58 PM
I'm sorry that you're a terrible human being
12/2/2019 7:00:43 PM
Love you e man
12/2/2019 7:01:55 PM
Passive aggressive tweets are so lame. Either name the "problem" if you want to be loyal to your boy (who was awful and should have been fired 2 years ago, but probably not the first to go after this season), or stay quiet.
