I'll usually defend WPHs for their bad grammar, their positive attitude and wishful thinking, for the whole Cousins thing, which I think was stupid. But I will criticize them for allowing that anonymous "tip" to be posted.I agree about Painter. At first I was a bit skeptical, but I've come-around. If Painter coming in in '09 and deepening our front-court means only getting Ryan+1 next year, so-be-it. "Bird in the hand..."
5/6/2009 7:13:32 PM
I've always been for us getting Painter IF he can qualify for '09. If he can't qualify for this year I'm a little more iffy about him. Either way he's a solid recruit.

We allow all comments to be posted unless they are bashing our team or our coach.

well, I'll respect that. just sucks that there's a bunch of folks who will bite on that "anonymous" tip, and others who will bash your site's "credibility" if it doesn't happen.and i wanted to clarify, when i said "for the whole Cousins thing, which I think was stupid." i was referring to the "controversy" surrounding that particular blog, not the blog itself. i appreciate the site.
5/6/2009 8:04:31 PM
As much as I bash the site, the recruiting info is usually quality, even though it's pretty much 100% gushing. I don't spend much time there (as I don't really pay much attention to recruiting to begin with) but I do appreciate the effort they put forth. Wouldn't kill them to hire some ghostwriters though.

WPH is only good for interviews, videos, and collecting factual information (like schedules, results, etc).Their analysis is terrible mostly because they let their childlike bias drown out any rational thought. They should refrain from making any type of argument, prediction, or judgement call.

WPH and SFN are two extremes of the fandom spectrum and are both mostly useless. Section Six is intelligent, unbiased, and pertinent. It is the one blog to rule all blogs.
5/6/2009 8:29:50 PM
I'll have to check out section six then

^^^^Let's try this again and see if you get it. I listed several products that WPH produced (interviews, videos, collecting factual information, analysis) -- and in fact, all of the sites produce the same products. From that list, WPH's first three products are good and their last one is horrible. There is no such thing as good analysis that is biased, whether positive or negative. A biased analysis product (argument, prediction, or judgement) is completely useless for anything other than making weak-minded people feel better. Since a bad product like this has no practical value, they should either stop producing it or improve its quality.I don't care for biased analysis products from any of the other sites, either. Believe it or not, it is possible to appreciate good analysis based on its merits regardless of whether it makes you feel good or not.[Edited on May 6, 2009 at 9:00 PM. Reason : .]

^it is worth it if you really get into following recruiting - otherwise not so much. The articles are what I like most. They actually have credible information about what recruits are thinking, their favorite schools, etc.

^hahawell in that case maybe not. The premium boards are a little better too (I don't ever post, just read them for any other info.) and don't have quite as much lunacy as the free board.
5/6/2009 9:25:17 PM
I enjoy my pp premium membership. $100 for the year is dirt cheap too.
5/6/2009 9:28:31 PM
Lowe apparently made a very promising comment during an alumni dinner in Sanford just recently. It's reguarded a certain 6'9" player committing next week.
5/7/2009 7:47:07 PM
pp premium boards used to be better, but now it's just a bunch of guys saying "i still have hope!", or something along those lines.
5/7/2009 8:05:20 PM
In my past experience paying for premium is great if you want to know a whole bunch about 30 guys, 2 or 3 of which end up playing at State and the rest playing somewhere else.

Enough with the PP talk! There's a thread:http://www.thewolfweb.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=561002&page=2Now that Jordan is ballin in the states, has any new info surfaced? Section 6 had a link to a column supposedly written by a guy who'd seen him play (I think it's an Aussie site, the author describes JV as a natural "centre" He had a few good things to say about his defense, but wasn't very complimentary about his offense.
5/7/2009 10:42:28 PM
5/8/2009 8:26:48 AM
I like JV more and more. He is a quote from the interview on WPH. Suck it Australia.
5/9/2009 11:46:16 PM
for freshmen big men, the best you can hope for is defensive and rebounding contributions. Leave the offense up to tracy
5/10/2009 1:20:56 AM
I hope JV realizes that loyalty is double-edged sword. Whether he plays well or doesn't, we'll sure let him know about it.
5/10/2009 8:30:27 AM
^not so much with players. in college at least, fans tend to hold back on the negativity for the most part in basketball. at least at the games.
5/10/2009 9:34:51 AM
i have always believed that booing a college player of any kind for not playing well is just not right. boo a professional who gets paid, boo a coach, but dont boo a college kid if hes struggling.
5/10/2009 10:16:50 AM
^i agree, but unfortunately thats not how some of our fans operate
5/10/2009 10:29:08 AM
5/10/2009 11:42:22 AM
thats a short sighted thought process. you have to think about the recruits in the stands at every gamelet the coach do his job and discipline players who dont care.
5/10/2009 11:58:23 AM
5/10/2009 12:43:53 PM
you guys don't get itthese guys are our brothers. they represent our university. we're all in this together.the exception, of course, is harrison beck, as was pointed out above. fuck that guy.
5/10/2009 2:17:28 PM
harrison beck should be booed 24/7/365
5/10/2009 3:49:52 PM
Any Painter update?
5/10/2009 9:58:56 PM
Recruits will have to trim their lists this week for sure so that they can sign to play somewhere
5/10/2009 10:05:53 PM
It's still between us, UMD, and VA Techwon't make his decision until after he graduates (May 17th)

Booing college athletes IMO is lame. Especially if it's your school's athletes. At the same time, I don't think it's a good idea to install any official rules preventing booing. As a fan and paying customer you can do whatever the hell you want. But if you boo a specific player that simply isn't having a good day (i.e. he's not making obscene gestures, doing something generally distasteful/unsportsmanlike, etc.), please know that I think you're a dickhead and a disgrace to sports fans everywhere. And FWIW to this day I am still fucking embarrassed as a State fan by those who booed Daniel Evans in our own stadium. Yes some if not most people were booing the team, but too many were booing Evans personally. That shit still pisses me off.
5/11/2009 12:31:56 AM
I was probably booing, but more at the decision to leave him in.
5/11/2009 12:45:58 AM
i wasn't booing, but i absolutely understood why people were.evans needed to be taken out right away.
5/11/2009 6:20:59 AM
5/11/2009 7:08:48 AM
^what makes you say Daniel Evans is a terrible person? By all accounts I've heard he is a great guy he just wasn't a legitimate Division I-A quarterback.
5/11/2009 7:42:42 AM
I've known him for 10+ years. Just about anyone who knows him think he's a prick. Anyways, back to BB recruiting.I heard Painter was waiting till after exams to commit (May 17th). I wonder if has to do wit him knowing whether or not he will qualify?
5/11/2009 8:06:07 AM
Last thing I heard about Painter was that he basically soft-verballed and was going to cancel his trip to MD but Williams convinced him to visit so he did. And now he's pushed back committing until after his graduation. So I think our lead has softened up a bit and now he's just going to sit back and think about it some. I think we're still in good shape though.
5/11/2009 9:29:57 AM
^^I'm not saying I don't believe you, but I am saying that to date, you're the only person I've heard say that about Evans.
5/11/2009 9:36:54 AM
I think the significance of Painter waiting until his graduation day means he has concerns about his grades and possibly not graduating. i think Painter still has State as his first choice
5/11/2009 11:09:58 AM

ive seen people state that evans is a miserable fucker IRL multiple times, then again it could just be this guy saying it over and over
