7/28/2012 10:22:08 PM
Power still out here really don't want to wake up to a bunch of spoiled food
7/28/2012 10:57:45 PM
Power out for 1000 in Raleigh, called and they said it won't be fixed til 2am at least. Our neighbors have power so I'm a little pissy...
7/28/2012 11:34:47 PM
Power definitely went out hereIt was on by the time I got home though
7/28/2012 11:42:15 PM
get them to let you run an extension cord over there so you can plug your fridge in at least
7/28/2012 11:43:19 PM
a fridge will be fine for several hours if you leave the door shut
7/28/2012 11:44:53 PM
go ahead and turn all your light switches to on so you will knwo when the power comes back.
7/28/2012 11:49:09 PM
and blender, vacuum, hairdryer, stereo on full blast. THEN you'll be able to tell

The conditions were perfect for excessive lightning and the tops of these storms pushed 60,000 ft which helped in charge separation etc! I took some video in Ch. Hill:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Eq6zCHZ5VAIn this second one the camera goes out of focus on me (killing the ultimate shot) but the sound is amazing when a strike occurs within yardshttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EiAWSwQFv4k

Finally some pics I took of some great storm structure in RTP http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10100800805935399.2662056.11832585&type=1&l=327808f462

^ Thank you. I will be kicking myself for awhile for the damn autofocus on the second vid. It would have been my shot of the year so far.

I was in Greenville this past weekend and saw some decent mammatus clouds overhead early Saturday evening. I'm pretty sure that's the first time I've ever actually seen that particular formation in person. When the line from the west rolled through later that night, it ha died down and wasn't all that impressive as it got close. The lightning had potential though (ba-dum-chhh).
7/30/2012 12:19:23 AM
Here are some shots of lightning I got at Roanoke Rapids Lake Saturday night.[Edited on July 30, 2012 at 8:57 AM. Reason : ]
7/30/2012 8:56:34 AM
^Very cool! What did you use to shoot those? What kind of exposure?
7/30/2012 9:41:19 AM
Sorry, posted it in the SLR thread, but not here.Shot with a Nikon D7000 with my 17-35mm f/2.8 lens on a tripod. 30 second exposure at f/5.6 and ISO 100. Manual focus on infinity. Set it up for an automatic timer shoot so that it would shoot like 10 in a row and left it alone. After the first batch ran for a bit I checked them out and then readjusted it. But this was my first time ever doing this kind of shooting, so I was just guessing and using trial and error to pick the best settings.[Edited on July 30, 2012 at 10:19 AM. Reason : ]

Think I left my windows cracked a little too much. damn sideways rain.
7/30/2012 4:27:47 PM
if you left your windows open at all, you get a big ol' we've had afternoon thunderstorms probably 20 out of the last 22 days you'd think that would teach you
7/30/2012 4:29:56 PM
I have rain guards so I usually leave them cracked a little especially with it being hot as fuck outside lately. Passenger side got a little wet last week during the freak monsoon so that makes it a major moment. Don't have them down as much as I did then so we'll see. ]

Storm was all bark and no bite downtown or south of downtown.
8/9/2012 9:24:23 AM
Drove right through the middle of it last night on 540 headed towards Durham. Other than being very windy and rain falling in annoying sheets it wasnt too terrible.
8/9/2012 9:25:35 AM
Remember back in the day when people wouldn't post on the internet every freaking time a dark cloud came by and it rained?
8/9/2012 9:57:38 AM
A dark cloud came by?That storm last night blew my huge potted plants into random neighbors yard and drove the rain under the front door and through the doorknob.
8/9/2012 11:41:25 AM
We didn't get anything in Fuquay really...very light rain... it went just south through lee and harnett county...However, there was some very sharp lightning about 5-10 miles to the south as I finished mowing my yard. That wasn't too fun....
8/9/2012 11:46:05 AM
We gonna get some rain tonight or is The Raleigh Dome taking over?
8/9/2012 11:26:05 PM

Dome COULD be in effect, looks like its moving from South to Northeast....Im hoping for some rain but not holding my breath. Watch it "pass us by" and blow up to the north Best chance we have is it holding together from the south, 30 percent chance so far.[Edited on August 10, 2012 at 12:47 AM. Reason : Radar]
