man, that's a little out there...but guess an hour is closer than 2.5 out to my mom's property in surry county. anyone have any property closer to town?
9/14/2011 6:30:59 PM
everyone is paranoid about letting others shoot on their property because they are worried someone will get hurt and they'll be sued
9/14/2011 7:44:07 PM
Wake County shooting range in Apex. About 35 minute drive from NCSU. You have to take one of their orientation classes ($15) on a Wednesday evening or Sunday afternoon. But then you can pretty much shoot anything (smaller than a .50).

anyone pick up snap caps for repeated dry firing? they worth it?
9/18/2011 1:40:10 PM
If dry-firing is not involved in the field strip of the gun, I would recommend them or a spent case.
9/18/2011 1:47:53 PM
Snap caps are great for training, but I don't see the need for dry-firing.A spent case may do something for 2-3 strikes, but after that it will be pointless.
9/18/2011 2:42:46 PM
friend of mine makes me nervous with the goddamn snap caps.he swears by them and as them in every gun- dry fires them constantly.he goes shooting a lot so hes always loading and unloading them- sometimes im worried hes going to forget when he has them in or not.this person alone makes me WARY of them.
9/18/2011 10:08:01 PM
you should treat the gun the same way regardless of what (if anything) is loaded in it.I've found dry-firing to be a little useful. nothing that great.i have found snap caps to be useful to fix an anticipation problem (particularly while teaching a novice shooter, but it's a good drill for anyone, i think). just go shooting with a friend, load each other's mags, and every now and then, sneak a snap-cap in there.
9/18/2011 10:12:12 PM
i spend entirely too much time browsing gun broker...
9/18/2011 10:16:50 PM
^^ also to find out if they instinctually clear a misfire properly I'm that guy that handles the unloaded gun fairly frequently when tooling around the house in order to become so used to its feel that if the time ever comes I know there will be no fumbling around...i.e. "one with the gun." Especially because I can't get out to the range as often as I like, I try to never waste a dry-fire. Always trying to work on my economy of motion and draw/center/aim/fire, all that jazz. Anyway, this all involves a fair amount of dry firing and while most of my guns can take it just fine I'd rather not put undue stress on the hammer and firing pin. Just curious if any of you had them. I wish that company made a "build your own six-pack" of dummy rounds [Edited on September 19, 2011 at 6:18 AM. Reason : asdf]
9/19/2011 6:17:22 AM
Most modern guns are built to withstand repeated dry-firing without caps. You should be fine. All the major-league USPSA shooters swear by dry-fire practice. I think Steve Anderson wrote a book about his dry-fire routine that led him to USPSA Grandmastership. It helps more than you know about sight alignment and trigger pull; you learn to call your shots much better. That being said, don't dry fire any rimfire guns.

Those of you that are military/LEO, how significant is the discount that you get when buying @ local gun shops? I know it varies shop by shop, but I've noticed a few of dealers here advertising pretty decent discounts on Glocks and whatnot, just trying to decide if it's worth kicking a veteran buddy a few bucks to purchase and then transfer to me.
9/19/2011 10:07:28 AM
^ I still pay less buying off of GunBroker or from some high volume shops. I have a few favorite dealers Northerfirearms and Woodburry Outfitters sell at like $25.00 over cost. Even if they don't have the gun listed they'll get it for me cheeper than anywhere local or even Buds. Military and LEO discount is usually a joke, because you still have to pay tax.
9/19/2011 10:47:02 AM
Oh wow, thanks for that, definitely going to check them out. Are you in the Raleigh area, and if so, which dealer do you use for shipping?[Edited on September 19, 2011 at 11:06 AM. Reason : .]

I'm pretty sure it is supposed to be 119, as that is what the other pistol by that company go for... I imagine if you ordered it, that they would just cancel the order
9/19/2011 6:30:30 PM
I called and it's $129. I told them I'd like to place an order... Gave them the product ID and when the total came up, the guy on the other end was like, "woah woah woah... this.. this can't be right... "

my rifle is a little off in terms of the scope.we tried to sight it in but apparently the dials dont work, no matter how much twisting i did it didnt effect where the bullet went.I tried to move the scope on the rail but i dont have an allen wrench that fits it, is it a special size?
9/20/2011 1:51:53 AM
It is probably just a metric if you have standard, or the other way around. This may be a dumb question, but did you take the caps or covers off the turrets to get to the actual adjustors, or are they external on the scope?
9/20/2011 2:05:04 AM
what brand/model is the scope?
9/20/2011 6:17:40 AM
I took the caps off...its a simmons

do the adjustment knobs move in clicks or do you just move them a certain amount? what range are you sighting in at? are you on the paper yet?

9/20/2011 8:54:07 PM
what type of 45 do you have?
9/20/2011 11:47:14 PM
Had a s&w 4506 that I was in love with but it was stolen. Looking at picking up a Springfield operator eventually but for now I'm looking into a CC .40
9/21/2011 12:01:29 AM
I misread that and thought you had one you were looking to get rid of.I bought a fullsize glock 40, and I'm not happy with it; it's just not as accurate for me as my compact Glock 45 (G30). I would love to find someone that would be willing to trade for either a fullsize glock 45 (G21) or a single stack compact 45 (G36). maybe I just need to take it back to the range and dump a couple hundred more rounds through it.I want an AR-10 and an SBEII before I add another handgun to the collection, but I'll spend a lot less on another handgun.
9/21/2011 12:16:26 AM
^^ I love my G27 (subcompact .40). I'm told I shoot it pretty well out to 25 yards for being such a small hand cannon and Hickok45 is also very accurate with his. I'm just saying that they can be accurate guns as long as your form is correct and consistent. If accuracy/consistency is a concern, a 3rd Gen G26 (9mm subcompact) would be the way to go, if you like Glocks. Maybe we need to go to the range this weekend DC. If you want to try it out, I'd be more than happy to throw some lead down range. I know you shot it once. You are more than welcome another go around if it'll convert you to the world of Glock [Edited on September 21, 2011 at 12:51 AM. Reason : .]

It's $2 cheaper, and you can have your certificate this Saturday Yeah, I'm a little pissed about missing out on over 500 customers, but I don't know how the hell they are making any money after Living Social takes their cut....or how they are accommodating that many people while only offering the class once a month.[Edited on September 21, 2011 at 1:29 PM. 9/21/2011 3:42:59 PM
that would make me really nervous... how many ROs do they have for a 100 person class?
9/21/2011 4:17:00 PM
Personal Defense has about 50 people per class but you have to schedule a time to shoot the following day and they only have 6 people shooting at a time. Much more controlled that way, but at $125/person, they're making an absolute killing to have one person teach an 8 hour class and then occupy the range for about 2 total hours. My classes cap out at 16 people per class and we shoot 8 people at a time with myself and 1 RSO to observe....needless to say, I expect the next couple months to be a little slower now ibnuts, 2 people sharing a gun will not be a problem. You can go ahead and take the class if you expect the citizenship to come through shortly; you just have to be a citizen at time of application.
9/21/2011 5:22:29 PM
It actually clicks..not just turns.and Im on the paper at 70 yards but its about 6 inches right of the target, no amount of clicks changes that.
