"okay, it appears that i can run backup games now (i started okami over lunch)...is there any good reason to downgrade to the 3.2u firmware if i'm running the 3.3u, preloader, and bootmii (as boot2)? the only advantage i'm aware of is the ability to run starfall...and startpatch is the replacement for menu 4.0/4.1

i'm still confused...is there an advantage to upgrading to 4.1 when it's working now? is startpatch really worth it? features for startpatch are:
- Region free (including Wii channels and SD Card menu channels)
- Skipping the disk update check
- Removal of the health check
- Booting recovery menu by pressing Y on a Nintendo Gamecube controller in port 1
- Removal of the diagnostic disc check
- Force Disc Region
- Remove NoCopy Protection
- Free movement of the Disc Channel
- Can autoboot a game by booting the Recovery menu, pressing Y on a Nintendo Gamecube controller in port 1 and removing the diagnostic disc check

also, i've been running wiibrickblocker on the couple of ISOs i have, but i don't suppose it's really necessary as long as wiibrickblocker reports it as NTSC-U, right? is running wiibrickblocker on a game that doesn't "need" it a bad idea?"

grats on backing up your games. My wii is and has always been 3.2 so I can't speak to the 3.3/4.0/4.1 apps, I just have no idea. If my games work and I don't need to do any updates, I see no reason for updating ever.

Also, I have brickblocker and scrubber and all that shit mentioned when talking about backup ISOs but I've never used them. As long as you are running NTSC-U backups on your #.#U softmodded wii you should be fine. You cannot, however, take a PAL backup and change the region to NTSC and have it work. If this is possible, I have been trying to do it the wrong way or was missing a step. I've read somewhere that GeckoOS will allow you to play any regions games on any Wii but since I have a chip there's no need for me to bother.

Running brickblocker on something that doesn't need it is probably fine, I highly doubt that it would double-reverse-brickblock-brick your Wii, although that would be a pretty funny/sad situation to be in.

I just started playing No More Heroes...I got it a while ago in a box set with Red Steel and never got around to playing it (got both for $20 at game stop). This is a pretty cool game, a little redundant but entertaining.

I wish I hadn't bought into the hype machine on this thing...the only reason I turn on my Wii anymore is to get it to stop flashing blue when there's another update

Best hype machine in history...business classes will be studying Nintendo's marketing effort on this for years to come...How did they ever manage to completely outsell their competitors and gain such incredible market share with such a bad product?!

^^You can turn that off.

^Basically they appealed to people who couldn't tell or didn't care that the product wasn't all that.

When the product is still impossible to find in stores a year after it's released it ceases to be a marketing ploy. 365+ days is plenty of time for everyone and their mother (or grandmother in this case) to figure out if it's truly a product they want and not just something they think they want based on commercials and hype.

I'm sorry the product wasn't designed with Drovkin or hardcore gamers as the target audience, but that doesn't mean their success should be painted as a simply the result of a hype machine when it clearly is not.

yes, i've really enjoyed it...the art took a bit of getting used to since it's so stylized, but i've enjoyed it so far (haven't beaten it, yet...haven't played in 2 weeks, actually )

I don't think it's fair to bash the wii unless you realize all the new systems are sucking, prob something to do with the economy, at this point in the ps2's life cycle there were prob 10 or more games that were must plays compared to the 3 or 4 ps3 games right now

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/05/epic-mickey-confirmed-by-epic-game-informer-cover/#continued

Quote :
"Considering the amount of concept art and leaked details we've heard concerning Disney Interactive Studios and Junction Point's upcoming collaboration, this might not come as a shock to you, but the cover of the next issue of Game Informer confirms the existence of Epic Mickey. Details are slim, but we now know that it'll be a Wii-exclusive action title and, based on the paintbrush grasped by the iconic rodent on the cover, we suspect it will incorporate the illustrative elements mentioned by an anonymous informant back in July.

Hopefully more details will surface when Game Informer's interview with Warren Spector goes live later today. For now, revel in the fact that the title is real -- and based on the art seen on the magazine's cover (the full version of which is posted after the jump), it might just deserve its "epic" designation."

Alright then.

-If it were on XBox360 it would turn into a mediocre FPS by 90s standards with substandard controls.
-If it were on PS3 it would spend its entire budget on graphics and end up being a 2 hours long(25% of that being the tutorial).

Stereotyping is fun.

^If it were on the PS3, a good deal of that 2 hours would be the install thing. And if it were on the 360, it WOULDN'T LET YOU SKIP CUTSCENES

You don't necessarily need Lego: Indiana Jones.

Smash Bros. Brawl or even an SD card work just as effective.

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/03/miyamoto-next-zelda-will-use-motionplus-for-more-realistic-swor/

Quote :
"Nintendo's resident legend, Shigeru Miyamoto, has revealed that the next installment in the Legend of Zelda series on Wii will make use of Wii MotionPlus for more realistic sword combat and targeting. "In this (installment of the series), we're using MotionPlus to make you feel much more like you're actually fighting while holding a sword in your hand," Miyamoto disclosed during an October 30 Q&A session, as translated by GameLife.

"In the previous game, you aimed at things by pointing at the screen, but this time we'll use MotionPlus to create a much more convenient targeting system and a more pleasurable playing experience," Miyamoto added.

Despite these revelations, Nintendo has yet to officially state whether Wii MotionPlus will be an option or a requirement for playing the game. When this next Zelda was announced during E3 2009, Miyamoto could only say that MotionPlus-exclusivity was "possible." These gameplay elements -- especially the swordplay -- only make it seem more likely."

It'll be interesting to see how this turns out.

Aonuma explained that, in order to try and keep the series fresh, he and Shigeru Miyamoto "have been trying something new in terms of the structure of the Wii version of the new Zelda game this time.""

It would be kinda cool if they did something super different for the next Zelda game... like set it in the future. Kind of like what FFVII was for the series. Epona could be a motorcycle instead of a horse, heh.
