I joined recently primarily because of the oxford match; only to find out that it was canceled after sending in my registration So yeah.. we'll see if I renew... :/ I really wish there were more GSSF matches nearby. I applied for the 1 year, so I didn't get the discount Glock coupon, but like I said that didn't matter to me so much. I really want to have fun and attend pistol matches. I may be getting a subcompact 9mm just because the recoil between a G26 and G27 is day and night; I have a significant increase in control with the 9mm over my current .40. yeah, checking the schedules it looks like there isn't another match scheduled for the carolinas through Feb of next year. I might do it, for the same reason you did.. i'll probably wait til there's another match on the schedule around here thoughi'm picking up my new gen3 26 tomorrow i might take it to the next silhouette match for shits and giggles.. there's not an indoor range for about 75 miles in any direction around here

ohh man.... You'll have a lot of fun with that 26. Congrats on the purchase. +1 for the Gen 3...

are all rifle ranges doing magnet tests now?
8/29/2011 1:43:04 PM
^ ranges want to reload your spent brass you leave behind, a magnet test will eliminate you using wolf / cheaper military surplus that they are unable to reloadthis further increases their profits on top of the already overpriced range fees
8/29/2011 2:17:54 PM
bullets are steel jacketed lead- no core or penetrator.my cases are brass though, so youre saying theyll be fine with that?
8/29/2011 4:00:04 PM
i'll probably end up joining gssf so i can take the armorer class and figure out how this thing worksi stripped it for cleaning and couldn't get the slide back on for a few minutes
8/29/2011 10:12:02 PM
I've pretty much learned how to assemble/disassemble my glock courtesy of youtube vids but I've always wanted to take the armorer course...Hmm.. Might as well. Holy cow. $195.00. looking at ruger blackhawks in 30 carbine (i know weird but i have thousands of rounds).found an old model (3-screw) at a pawn shop- best they will do is $450.NIB you can have a 2-screw for about $430.i know the old ones are much less safe? are 3-screws that collectable?i read online the triggers feel better because of the lack of a transfer bar.anyway, im leaning new. thanks in advance!

Ballistol Lube. I was watching Hickock45's channel on youtube when he mentioned using this lube. I found this "review" online and wanted to know if anyone here uses it or has heard of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxjFEzvnxec
9/6/2011 12:44:14 AM
i think folks put way too much thought into greases/oils/lubes/solvents for their firearms
9/6/2011 12:50:57 AM
^this. I think that if you perform routine maintenance on your firearms, it doesn't matter what lube you use as long as it is designed for firearms.
9/6/2011 1:03:20 AM
I wasn't looking at switching any time soon... I've got a case of CLP that'll probably hold me over for the next 5 years or so. I've heard about this lube twice today alone and wanted to know what all the hype was. Carry on...
9/6/2011 1:05:16 AM
sorry, i wasn't trying to sound like an asshole. just giving my $.02. with all the good reviews, i'm sure it's a fine lube.
9/6/2011 1:07:29 AM
I totally agree with you. I took no offense. I guess other than being eco-friendly, I saw nothing "special" about it compared to CLP or most other lube/solvents.

I don't know if I've posted this here, but my S&W 4506 was stolen a few weeks ago. While it is still sorely missed and one day I will replace it with another full-frame .45, my personal protection methodology has changed somewhat. Instead of keeping a cannon like that around for home protection, I've decided to go with a shotgun for the house and a compact for carry. I'm still toying around with a few different compact .40 models, but I know for sure that I'm picking up a Remington 870 here in a few days when my ID comes in the mail (wallet stolen also). My question is, I want to fit the 870 with a pistol grip and some sort of tactical rail for a light. Most of the grip and forend packages are pretty cheap (on the order of $20-40), even the Hogues, should I just pick one or do you get what you pay for? Do the magazine-clamp rails work well, or the picatinny forend rails? What about pistol-grip forends? Any other useful accessories I should look into?I haven't been in the shotgun game since I used to go dove-hunting with pops almost 10 years ago, and those were hunting models. Shoot me some ideas por favor
9/6/2011 11:22:25 PM
as i've said on here plenty of times, i would keep the thing looking as much like a hunting shotgun as possible. remember, a jury of your peers may be looking at it one day as a prosecutor attempts to portray you as a crazy trigger-happy gun nut and your peers are, on average, idiots, especially when it comes to firearms.i'd keep the pistol grips and lights and all that tactical bullshit off it. i keep my camo mossberg 835 loaded with 3" 00 buckshot. doubles as a hunting shotgun. not much difference in drawing a bead on a turkey's head and a man's chest i guess.[Edited on September 7, 2011 at 4:58 AM. Reason : 26" barrel on my 835][Edited on September 7, 2011 at 5:01 AM. Reason : there's a mossberg persuader for sale in the used gun thread that would work well]
9/7/2011 4:56:58 AM
my grandfather had an 870 with a pistol grip and laser sight, he used it for blowing away armadillos that were tearing up his garden. this wouldn't even be an issue if an asshole ex-uncle hadn't taken all his guns when he died and then divorced my aunt never to be seen againthat's not so much a relevant response as it is a funny anecdote. Picture a lanky 6'3" man of 80 years hobbling out to his garden to dispatch them damned armadillers with a pistol-grip pump and laserwhile your point is valid, i was thinking of going with that combo full-stock + pistol grip style stock anyway. Probably put a breacher barrel on it too with a rail and an ammo sling and call it a dayi.e.+++=]
9/7/2011 1:05:33 PM
whats the best ak74 out there right now?
9/9/2011 8:20:14 AM
^^why not go with a more functional and tacticool stock?
9/9/2011 8:59:56 AM
Or classy yet deadly
9/9/2011 12:10:45 PM
something like that^ is what i was suggesting
9/9/2011 3:13:14 PM
Does anyone have Go/No-go Guages in 7.62x39 that I could borrow in the near future?
9/12/2011 1:59:43 PM
that's mine, except I have taken the light off- the mount didn't like the shock of shooting 3inch steel loads I'm thinking of selling it though- or at least replacing it with a 20gauge youth size semi automatic shotgun. I've mentioned it before, I'm worried since I don't have time to really practice shooting it much that I might forget to load a new shell after I fire in a high pressure situation. Also, they take away some of the recoil and that combined with a smaller load (2.75" 20gauge) might make it shootable for piddlebug
9/12/2011 2:16:03 PM
I keep a mossberg 590 20" with a 12"LOP stock and 2 3/4" low recoil buck in the bedroom. No extra frills. I'll add a light eventually, but I can hold my surefire G2 and the forend at the same time.
9/12/2011 5:39:37 PM
^where do you get your ammo- I'd like to try something like that before I get fed up and sell mine and replace it with the 20 gauge (I'll still get the 20 gauge, but this shotgun was the first gun I ever bought myself, so I'd like to keep it)
9/12/2011 5:50:12 PM
i think http://www.ammunitiontogo.com had it last time i looked
9/12/2011 5:52:04 PM
they do! is 20 bucks for 25 rounds reasonable for this kind of ammo?
9/12/2011 5:55:47 PM
given that 25 rds will hopefully be all you ever have to buy, $20 sounds good to me. i'd shoot a few full mags and make sure my shotgun shoots it ok, then keep it ready to go loaded with that. practice with cheap birdshot.
9/12/2011 5:58:45 PM
I actually found a small amount at gander mountain. It was $8 per 5 rounds. Ammunitiontogo is deffinately better. Fire a few to see poi and pattern, then practice with bird as needed.

My two shotguns, both are mossberg 12guage590 mariner w/ hogue overmold 12'' LOP stock500 w/ hogue overmold fde stockWith the 12" LOP stock, I have to careful how I place my hand, or I will knock myself in the face when firing. It fits her fine, but is really too short for me for regular use.
9/13/2011 8:24:19 AM
the XD deal above is common/always on I thought.my XD came with a coupon to get 2 more mags & 1 more mag holster for free... guy at pdhsc said all of them come with that coupon.
9/13/2011 8:49:58 AM
The xD doesn't normally come with that stuff but they have the offer so often you don't have to wait long for it to show up.
9/13/2011 11:07:51 AM
where's the best place around here to get a Benelli SBE II for a left handed shooter? Is it worth the drive to Fayetteville to Gander Mountain, or will I find someone around here that will give me a decent price on one?
9/13/2011 12:46:26 PM
picking up the rem 870p this week from lawmen's. also thinking about picking up one of the AK47s at personal handgun, but i need to do a little more research first. anyone know anything about the ones they sell there?lastly, I really want to try out a USP .40 compact, does anyone have one I can put a few rounds through in exchange for ammo (or beer or whatever)?
9/13/2011 1:20:34 PM
sorry for double postAnyone been out to North Raleigh Guns off Westgate rd. yet? Place packs a lot of cool firepower in a small place, definitely check it out if you haven't. Ended up buying a Romanian AK from them at a good price, came with a leather strap and bayonet too. Only problem is the pull on these things is so short I can't sight it properly without putting the stock too high up on my shoulder. I don't really want a tactical stock if I can avoid it, anyone know of a long-pull wood stock?
9/13/2011 5:15:39 PM
About how much did you end up spending for the AK?GSSF match in Conyers, GA (outside Atlanta kind of) on the 24th and 25th. Anyone want to drive to Charlotte and then carpool to the meet? You have to be a GSSF member and can register there. Hiro?
9/13/2011 5:19:55 PM
on the topic of shotguns, has anyone tried cutting down their stock? The LOP on my 590 is a little long for me, and i might as well try the free method before paying for anything.and if that doesn't work out, i might replace the synthetic stock and forend with wood furniture[Edited on September 13, 2011 at 5:32 PM. Reason : ^ damn i can't go ]
9/13/2011 5:31:45 PM
The stock is mostly hollow. If you cut it down, then you will have to buy a slip over end cover or be creative to cap the end. The current pad won't be able to be screwed back into place. A lot of people get the hogue overmold 12"LOP stock, and then a 1" limb-saver pad to bring it to 13" LOP. The factory length is 14". I have found that the 12" stock is really to short unless you are a small person, have proportionally short arms, or are wearing a ton of layers.
9/13/2011 5:53:24 PM
I can join the small club of... I broke my Glock. Used it so much the slide catch spring snapped. Now my G23 licks back on every round. I can get it fixed for free at a GSSF match, or spend $50 mailing it to them. I'm not a Glock armorer yet, so I can't just order the spring. Guess I'll be carrying the G27 till it's fixed.

Is anyone using a LaRue billet lower on your AR?
9/13/2011 7:53:32 PM
I got your message MaximaDrvr. I'm off that weekend and can make time for one of the shooting days. Are you going to do a 2 day event or just go for 1 day?
9/13/2011 8:51:55 PM
9/13/2011 10:37:37 PM
^Thanks, though I'm just going to get it replaced for free at the GSSF match in GA.Anyone else besides Hiro? Does anyone have an H2 or H3 buffer for an AR sitting around? I would like to borrow or buy them from you.
9/14/2011 12:06:15 PM
Where does one go to shoot an AK around here anyway? Besides property, yada yada...any ranges? And what's protocol? Don't wanna just bust up in there with an ak slung around my shoulder since I don't (and won't) have a bag for it. No mag and tie the bolt open?[Edited on September 14, 2011 at 6:09 PM. Reason : if there's even a range in the area that allows them]
9/14/2011 6:08:13 PM
