8/27/2013 4:28:35 PM
I work in an office with 3 cubes in it, the other two of which have been unoccupied for years. So they move this guy in who is beyond loud. My very first complaint that prompted this thread 6 years ago was:
8/28/2013 10:14:07 AM
ugh. buy that man a headset.

I've got a rat hiding out beneath my office. He ate all of my dog's treats yesterday.
8/30/2013 1:00:21 PM
beneath your office floor? the rat ate all the treats? are you sure it's just the one?
8/30/2013 1:15:49 PM
some jerk is bringing his dog to work and leaving dog treats everywhere, and now the dog treats have attracted rates to the office. i hope he gets the bubonic plague.
8/30/2013 1:21:36 PM
I wish I could bring my dog(s) to work. That'd be baller as fuck.

My office is above an old bar (and it's an old ass house). There are probably rats and bats all over...but this is the first time he's gotten any shit out of my office. There is a big crack/hole in the floor of my office near a door that connects to my neighbor's office (wedding dress designer). Twice I've seen a ton of tinfoil near the rat hole (there is a little hole he's created to get into her room). So I went into her shop and asked her if she had any evidence of a rat...and she said he's been taking her chocolate bars (wrapped in tinfoil). But I left my dog's treats in an unopened bag the other day...and they were all gone the next morning. That rat ought to be pretty fat right now...because it was a ton of treats. I'm going to get a mousetrap this weekend.
8/30/2013 4:40:43 PM
sounds like you need to bring a cat to work instead.
8/30/2013 4:52:28 PM
True. I've never seen this fucker during the day. He's definitely a nocturnal worker. I've also only seen evidence of him in the last month or two...and I've been in this office for almost three years. I think a trap should do the job.
8/30/2013 4:55:59 PM
They have those "hotels" that I work really well. I mainly like them because they don't get blood everywhere. I image he's probably pretty fat or he has a whole family to feed.

tbqh it's like the Arrested Development of webcomics, you had to have read it from the beginning to get the humorbut that posting was not about the funny, it was about a workplace annoyance befalling many a small-business manager: taking on way too many shifts because it's too expensive to hire enough hourlies to do it[Edited on September 4, 2013 at 5:03 PM. Reason : BTW "Hanners" is an affectionate nickname for Hannelore Ellicott-Chatham[Edited on September 4, 2013 at 5:04 PM. Reason : and "Penny" is an affectionate nickname for Penelope Gaines

On of my employees is an idiot. He has a schedule of what he needs to run. I tell him that when he is finished he needs to complete a set of tasks. It would be a tight fit, but completely do-able.He shuts off the machine 1.5 hours early so he has plenty of time to complete said tasks, and completely ignores the production schedule (demand).I make him turn the machine back on, and he now asks how he is supposed to get it all done. If he hadn't wasted 45 minutes shutting down the machine and having to start it back up, then it wouldn't be a problem.[Edited on September 4, 2013 at 7:57 PM. Reason : .]

^^ perfect response to that post

It's annoying to me that I have no desire to go back to work after vacation. It's not that the job sucks or that I even hate it. The pay is good and the benefits are even better. It's just not something I'm passionate about and that annoys me.

this summer's high humidity and rain caused a massive mold problem in my building. When i got to school in august I had to clean a layer of mold off of my desks and walls. I've been sick ever since school has started to varying degrees
9/6/2013 2:53:41 PM
I know we have had our differences, but that is not something you should dismiss. You might have cleaned up surface mold, but you didn't get all of the mold and you didn't solve the problem that caused it. Its a legit health risk, if I were you I would ask colleagues if they have the same problems and I would report it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sick_building_syndromehttp://www.nsc.org/news_resources/Resources/Documents/Sick_Building_Syndrome.pdfhttp://www.epa.gov/iaq/pdfs/sick_building_factsheet.pdfhttp://toxipedia.org/display/toxipedia/Sick+Building+Syndrome
9/6/2013 3:06:20 PM
eh, i dismiss our differences as internet trolling for the most part. but yeah, everyone i have talked to in our building has had some sort of respiratory issues since we came back. It's been reported and they are going to test air quality and all of that, but I doubt the issue will ever be completely solved. the building is old and poorly designed, and the HVAC system is very inefficient. There is no option to move us to another building being that we all have 35+ students in our science classes this year and most have to share a classroom as it is.
9/6/2013 3:11:43 PM
they have some band-aid options they can do. when I'm doing an investigation I usually go ahead and drop some HEPA/UV units in rooms to help with air quality until the cause is fixed. sick building syndrome is one of the big things to deal with in the remediation industry, I'm actually trying to rework an estimate now to reduce costs where possible because the >$1MM cost was too much for client to stomach.
9/6/2013 3:21:12 PM
I didn't know you were involved in that line of work. Question... would running the HVAC continually have an effect? as it stands now, the air only runs from around 7am-4pm.
