^yeah, seriously... the iphone has had push since 3.0
9/14/2009 8:06:48 AM
just making sure i wasn't the delusional one.

the url/password thing is fucking bullshit and very poorly executed. how hard is it to make a link that has the password/username integrated into the link so you can just touch it and be taken tot the link? having to type that shit in is stupid, esp on a phone. i've gotten those from day one as well and it's easy enough to send them by sending the picture via email to phone#@mm.att.net or whatever the address is. its just that i shouldn't HAVE to do that.

since no one reads the 49th post:
9/14/2009 11:41:58 AM
^I've read it. But how can i list out all the apps i've downloaded and how much i've spent on them?

9/14/2009 12:19:02 PM
9/14/2009 12:21:41 PM
^yeah i meant gmail. No real push for gmail. Which is what most people use.
9/14/2009 12:56:48 PM
eh.. it's close enough. and i wouldn't say "most" people use gmail. i have a copy of all my mail forwarded to gmail but use exchange most of the time. plenty of other people that have big boy/girl jobs do the same.and evan... $202.51 in apps? haha
9/14/2009 1:39:18 PM
Are you saying that you're forwarding your work mail to gmail? I hope not...Also, if you're forwarding your personal mail to gmail, you might as well just have your friends use your gmail account - that way you can switch jobs, ISPs, or domain names without concern. Not sure what "big boy/girl jobs" has to do with gmail
9/14/2009 1:44:35 PM
^big boy/girl jobs = exchange email.
9/14/2009 1:50:57 PM
still waiting for lotus to release their active sync stuff for domino :-P
9/14/2009 1:54:02 PM
evan - Out of those Apps listed, which paid apps would you recommend? Worth the investment I mean.
9/14/2009 2:03:57 PM
Why would someone with a "big boy/girl job" use their work account for personal email? Sounds like a recipe for disaster also sounds like a total n00b thing to do
9/14/2009 2:24:12 PM
yeah really. i didn't say i don't have a work email, but i'm not giving that out to all my friends for personnel use/messaging.
9/14/2009 2:29:18 PM
mainly because my family owns where i work.. so it doesn't really matter. and i was more or less kidding about the big boys/girls thing but you guys gotta get alll pissy. i agree the whole google push thing would be pretty cool/nice to have. although not really a huge deal since it updates pretty quick anyways if you change it to check every 15 mins. 9/14/2009 2:53:29 PM
has anyone tried the $1.99 gpush app? It's got mixed reviews.
9/14/2009 2:57:28 PM
in iTunes 9 how is genius mixes any different than genius playlists before?
9/14/2009 3:17:00 PM
I have push both for my work email (Exchange) and my personal email (mobileme)...works great. I've been really disappointed in gmail and its performance (web) which is why i started using my mobileme account as my main personal account.
9/14/2009 3:44:53 PM
I have mobileme too but really only use it for contacts/calendar syncing. I never really liked the web email interface for some reason. Gmails works a lot better for me personally
9/14/2009 3:55:34 PM
I don't use the web interface for mobileme...just phone and postbox on the computer.I've had so much trouble with gmail downloading to any mail client and even to my phone. and I try to avoid using the web UI because every time I do it times out on everything. I guess its ok though because its still 'beta'... #googlefail
9/14/2009 4:03:04 PM
^Haven't you heard, gmail is out of beta!! Data point: I've been unable to get to my gmail just once in the 5 years I've been using gmail.[Edited on September 14, 2009 at 4:43 PM. Reason : a]
9/14/2009 4:43:14 PM
Yeah gmail is really fast and responsive. Never timed out on me. Works great with any email client and the iPhone. Aside from no native push on iPhone it's great. Great options and lab features.
9/14/2009 4:53:38 PM
I've had gmail since the beginning and I feel like performance has gone downhill.^ and ^^ you must not have been trying to access gmail on the days its been down. because even google admits to it being down.
9/14/2009 5:15:33 PM
You have a computer from the 90's? http://www.slate.com/id/2227215/
9/14/2009 5:22:04 PM
i think i remember one day in the 5 or so years i've used gmail that it's been down. I can handle that.
9/14/2009 5:28:26 PM
I'll be sure to screen capture the insanely long loading messages i get all the time in the UI.
9/14/2009 5:31:51 PM
Yes i'm aware gmail went down once. I guess gmail doesn't like you. Everyone else likes the UI.
9/14/2009 5:49:14 PM
9/14/2009 6:31:57 PM
^^If you do just a tiny bit of searching on google. you will see I'm not alone with the long loading times in gmail. I just posted TWO separate incidents that i found with less than 1 minute of searching on google. So you should rephrase that to...yes I'm aware gmail goes down from time to time. And I never said the UI sucks, i said the performance and long load times/time outs suck.[Edited on September 14, 2009 at 6:34 PM. Reason : ^]
9/14/2009 6:34:21 PM
Ok i believe you. I've just never had a load time or time out on the web interface on gmail. I guess it depends on other things.
9/14/2009 6:37:03 PM
user error.
9/14/2009 6:55:46 PM
that must be it. clicking on inbox or send mail must be the improper way of doing things.
9/14/2009 6:56:43 PM
this whole transferring between different computers in the same house is awesome - love that i can get my songs from the old computer that i lost when i upgraded to the new phone without having to sync it with the old phone
9/14/2009 9:46:01 PM
here's all the new Accessibility/Voice Over features in 3.1http://www.apple.com/iphone/iphone-3gs/accessibility.html#video
9/15/2009 11:51:55 PM
^pretty cool but I can see some issues with some things. For example when scrolling through apps and you get to the next line...why not start at the beginning of the next line so the user doesn't have to switch from scrolling left to right. If they're visually impaired what do they care if they're on the next line...it should just cycle through them like they're all in a straight row.
9/16/2009 10:25:41 AM
3.1 has destroyed my phone. It has crashed (shutdown?) to black at least 4 times and the battery life has gone to complete shit
9/16/2009 10:52:10 AM
still haven't upgraded....waiting til it can be jailbroken
9/16/2009 11:25:50 AM
^^yikes! i'm definitely holding off on that
9/16/2009 11:27:36 AM
I have not had any issues with 3.1
9/16/2009 11:28:34 AM
i've updated mine and 6 others to 3.1 and we've not had any issues.
9/16/2009 11:34:34 AM
9/16/2009 12:18:39 PM
I can't remember who has 3GSs and who doesn't, but y'all do know that everything but the 3GS can be upgraded to 3.1 jailbroken now, right?
9/16/2009 12:23:27 PM
i didn't, actuallythanks for the update
9/16/2009 12:33:28 PM
so i bought an ipod classic yesterday that way i could have my entire music collection at my fingertips. I already have the phone, so the touch wasn't necessary and i would have outgrown it in a few months. I love having everything available while travelling or in my car, but wow i really didn't realize how attached i have become to the quick scroll availability on the phones/touches. going from a-z on the scroll wheel is tedious and it'll take me awhile to get used to it again.
9/16/2009 12:59:32 PM
I HATE how long the load time for album art is on the iPod classics, too... makes the device feel so unresponsive.
