hey ptytllylIf I root my G2 will I be able to use the FM tuner as an actual FM tuner? Like pick up local radio and shit?
3/17/2011 4:47:28 PM
you should root your phone regardless, z4root is a good free apptakes like 5 minutes including rebooting and allows you to run a lot more appswhat is this built-in FM tuner you are referring to?I use TuneIn Radio which is a free app, but I'm 99.9% sure it uses data to stream the feeds, even for local stations]
3/17/2011 4:51:17 PM
I remember seeing it in the specs when I was looking to buy, now I can't find it.Mentioned here when I googlehttp://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/T-Mobile-G2/FM-Radio/td-p/467562/page/2I feel like this might get me in the tales of the technically inept thread[Edited on March 17, 2011 at 4:55 PM. Reason : Yeah, I use TuneIn, but FM tuner would be nice for battery and non-streaming stations]
3/17/2011 4:54:43 PM
oh ok for some reason I read G2 as Droid 2 Global which is what I haveMotorola might not even offer something like that on my phone
3/17/2011 5:03:58 PM
Goddammit, pttddydld has like 8000 posts a month where is he
3/17/2011 5:28:07 PM
Lol. Google tells me that it works but you need to root and install a SenseUI based rom.
3/17/2011 5:32:54 PM
What's an easy-ass way to do thatLike say I've had four beers in the past hour, what would be the safest course of action
3/17/2011 5:35:01 PM
No clue since I don't have a G2 and I'm on my phone and too lazy to go get my laptop to look. Look at xda-developers.com or androidcentral.com. Should be able to figure it how to root there and then you may be able to use rom manager from the market and flash another rom.
3/17/2011 5:59:10 PM
I would trust you to root your phone with said number of beverages in your systemI would not trust you to install a custom ROM, which involves backing up all your current data, in such a state
3/17/2011 5:59:56 PM
yeah rooting is one thing and unlocking nand + flashing custom recovery another. I consider myself tech savvy and I was still pretty nervous reading through everything mutltiple times before finally doing it.This was with multiple adb commands and before Unrevoked had perfected their AIO stuff and I don't know if other one step processes have popped up since.
3/17/2011 6:40:13 PM
I've tried to root my DX several times now using z4root and superoneclick and I can't get shit.Who can do this, when, and how much? I'm sick of this shit and don't have the time to keep pissing around or catch back up on DX hacking.

Reports on the Thunderbolt is that with 4g enabled battery life is under 4 hours of moderate usage, not even playing video.http://androidcommunity.com/htc-thunderbolt-battery-time-revealed-hands-on-test-with-slashgear-20110317/
3/18/2011 1:59:58 AM
Some people have reported that it seems to bounce between 3G and 4G which probably doesn't help. As for the link, I'm calling BS on the "moderate" usage considering the screen was on probably 70-80% of the time. The screen is the biggest draw so it's only common sense that using the device heavily is going to drain the batter. 2:45 of total awake time does seem to be a little low considering the Fascinate I have can make it through about 4.5 hours of continuous heavy use without the screen going off. Most days the screen is only on for about 1 1/2 hours or so.
3/18/2011 7:35:20 AM
Who cares about battery life when you're pulling bits like this
3/18/2011 9:39:07 AM
They're thinking that the speedtest app is borked. The speed is lower when tethering or going to speedtest.net in the browser
3/18/2011 9:56:24 AM
Alright we got root in this bitchNow what[Edited on March 18, 2011 at 12:57 PM. Reason : First thing first I'm deleting this fucking pre-installed photobucket app that alerts me every hour]
3/18/2011 12:39:32 PM
I wonder if this will eventually be true for android and other carriers. http://gizmodo.com/#!5783386/att-tells-jailbroken-iphone-tetherers-to-pay-up
3/18/2011 12:43:15 PM
I've tethered without a plan for 7 years without ever so much as a warning. I can only assume ATT is targeting these users based on data consumption?
3/18/2011 12:48:34 PM
well I caved and ended up going back to Verizon today to get one to play with for at least the 14 day trial. Now I just gotta make a Charlotte trip.
3/18/2011 2:33:55 PM
^tww charlotte meetup?
3/18/2011 2:47:55 PM
lol. I wouldn't want to make you jealous with my upload speeds. And they need to hurry up and root this bitch so I can restore my Angry Birds backups.
3/18/2011 3:08:00 PM
Just picked up the Thunderbolt today after switching from my Blackberry Bold 900 this thing is pretty amazing. I am pretty overwhelmed trying to figure everything out.
3/18/2011 3:17:39 PM
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/03/18/htc-thunderbolt-rooted/ sweet. completely missed that. Tis only a matter of time now.
3/18/2011 4:38:50 PM
haha. so it's possible to upload faster than 300 kbps? WHAT? i figured since twc doesn't let me, and ATT doesn't let me it just isn't possible!

3/18/2011 10:13:43 PM
2.3.3 stock for me.
3/19/2011 3:08:35 AM
so, i think i'll get a xoom wifi tab next weekend. part of me wants to wait for the lighter galaxy 10.1 tab, but who knows when that wifi version is out. maybe i should wait to see if the 3G/4G version of each is comparable in price... i'm guessing it will be.fuck. dont know what to do... i played around with one, the weight is a bit awkward, but i think most of the time i'll be sitting with the thing resting on my gut or my lap.i could always see how the ipad 2 feels, it's within 10 grams of the galaxy tab, soi guess it would be representative.what should i do tww?

3/19/2011 10:19:21 AM
anyone used Lookout? Free anti-spyware anti-adware app that also has an ability to remotely turn on the GPS and locate the phone as well as emit an audible alarm (haven't tested the alarm yet)
3/19/2011 11:04:27 AM
^haha yea I thought it would be wise to test the alarm in a library, needless to say it is very loud and difficult to turn off.
3/19/2011 12:09:58 PM
3/19/2011 12:20:42 PM

3/21/2011 6:37:29 PM
Is anyone running Cyanogenmod 7 RC2? I did the GPS/WiMax fix for my Evo, but every once in a while, I completely lose the networks and I either have to reboot or turn them on and off. Does/has this happened to anyone else?Other than this I have loved CM7.
3/21/2011 11:52:19 PM
I'm taking my chances with an Archos 43 smartnonphone.
3/22/2011 12:24:05 AM

looks like Sprint is pushing out a new Froyo update again (EC05). Looks like it's only for those who are still on 2.1 though. http://www.androidcentral.com/sprint-epic-4g-and-galaxy-tablet-updates-set-roll-out
3/22/2011 8:43:14 AM
so Amazon's app store is up, and has free Angry Birds Rio, in case anyone didn't know
3/22/2011 8:51:20 AM
yeah, I linked to it in the Angry Birds thread in chit chat. Kind of stupid that you have to input credit card info for a free app. It'll be going to .99 tomorrow so get it today. There are also adfree versions of the regular and seasons versions for .99. Or just root and install adfree from the market. Also looks like tiered data for Verizon is close. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1003179]
