I do wish yellows went away after the quarters or at least the R16.

Anyway, that was a very stressful long lunch but I'll take it.

Jones and Bedoya are no longer on a card, just Beckerman and Gonzalez as yellow cards go away after a match without a card.

However should we get to the match against Argentina, if anybody picks up a yellow that game it would be wiped clean for the Holland game (unless they were on a yellow from the Belgium game in which case they would be suspended against Holland).

Here's to hoping we have Jozy back against the fighting waffles. Without him the best we can hope for is advancing on penalties.

Belgium Thursday 7/1 4 pm Salvador
Argentina Saturday 7/5 Noon Brasilia
Holland Wednesday 7/9 4 pm São Paulo
Brazil/Chile/Germany Sunday 7/13 3 pm Rio de Janeiro

^ I don't know that the best we can hope for is penalties even without Jozy. Honestly, I think we have a chance to beat every team I have seen play. Obviously there is a huge difference between beating 3 good teams in a row and maybe beating one, but I don't think we are in a different class from even the top squads (as evidenced by germany only beating us by 1).

I haven't found anything that says that. All I see is suspension after "2 in 5 games"

^damn you are correct

Quote :
"Players also receive a one match ban if they pick up a single yellow card in two different games from the beginning of the group stage until the end of the quarterfinal matches, at which point single yellow cards will be deleted. However, such a ban does not carry over beyond the World Cup finals if the second yellow card is collected in his team's last match of the tournament.[citation needed] Previously, players received a one match ban if they picked up two yellow cards within the group stage or within the knockout stage. The carried yellow card rule was changed to give players a better chance to compete in the final should their team advance that far."

Brad Davis didn't add much today. Bradley has been way off this tournament. Yelling has provided a spark the last two games, would like to see him come in with a little more time left.

Bums me out to think about about what our team could be with davies. Not even sure where you would put everyone, but it's an awesome problem to have too many quality strikers.

Dude's delusional. He'll never be where he was. And not only that; his potential was his greatest asset, not his talent. Sad.

^^ Totally personal speculation but I see like a 5% chance of him starting. I would say he is in uniform this game and "available" but, even if he is 90% healthy, he should probably be used as a super-sub if we are struggling in the 2nd half (with the goal that we can rest him one more game).

Of course we see very little compared to what the coaches see, but if there is any question on whether he is very close to 100% fit and healed still it's not worth the risk imo: both the risk of re-injury as well as blowing an early sub in a game that has the potential to go 120 mins.

I absolutely want to see Altidore out there and hope that we will see him playing for us before we go home (whenever that ends up being) so we aren't left with 'what-ifs' but I just don't see him starting tomorrow.

Yeah...have there been any reports on Jozy?? If he's at least 75%...I think you see him in there pretty early unless we go up a goal in the first half.

I think I read on Saturday that Jozy had been jogging for the last 3 days but hadn't participated in any work-outs yet, but Klinsmann was "optimistic" that he'd be ready in some capacity.

Also, I was unable to watch most of the Germany game and didn't realize that Jermain Jones broke his nose. Supposedly it wasn't too "serious" and he won't be wearing a mask.

I also heard (I think) that Bradley had run more than any other player during the entire group stages at 23 miles.

Why wouldn't you start him unless fatigue is an issue? Worried about saving him for the 2018 WC?

Might not want to test his hammy that early. I mean...I'd probably start him...but if you can get an early goal and hold off...it would be really nice to have a 100% Jozy for the quarters.

I would love to see a 100% Jozy back, but anything less than 100%, then he should sit out again. This is too important to risk putting in any liabilities. Maybe if we are winning by 2+ goals in the last 10 minutes, we can put on Jozy to get some game time, and possibly have him hold the ball, when possible, to kill time.

Maybe the USMNT is trying to get into Belgium's heads, making them overprepare, just for us to not play Jozy at all. Or possibly, make Belgium think they need to rush injured guys back as well. It's all head games. Jozy should not play.

Klinsmann is by far the best coach we have had at mind games. Now any controversial call that goes against us and people will quote him... and the ref knows that.
