6-5 220 and not a single offer?

oh snap depth at QB what the hell is going on
4/26/2011 10:25:33 AM
We have "options", not sure about "depth".
4/26/2011 11:20:44 AM
Glennon, Brosius, Taylor + walkonsthat's depth
4/26/2011 11:22:11 AM
At one point we had Wilson, Evans, and Beck. Just sayin'.
4/26/2011 11:24:20 AM
you didn't just say that in all seriousness, right?[Edited on April 26, 2011 at 11:29 AM. Reason : also Evans was not recruited as a scholarship player][Edited on April 26, 2011 at 11:31 AM. Reason : also i wouldn't point out that period of our history as a time we had QB depth]
4/26/2011 11:29:23 AM
Sure I did. How do you know the guys behind Glennon are any good? Hence "options" vs "depth".Granted it's not hard to be better than Evans or Beck. But still. They could be bums.
4/26/2011 11:30:29 AM
Brosius looked pretty good in the first half of the spring game.
4/26/2011 11:31:20 AM
Ridiculously unnecessary debate ensuing.]
4/26/2011 11:31:56 AM
Fair enough then.I'm still wondering about this walkon. Amazing numbers and good size, but couldn't get any scholarships?
4/26/2011 11:32:16 AM
I think I read somewhere he had Div II offers. Supposedly lacks arm strength and has a questionable delivery. (see photo above) And IBTPRivers. ]
4/26/2011 11:34:20 AM
I see where he's coming from. 'Depth' assumes that you have multiple experienced scholarship players available to play. He's saying that this season, we merely have options that we can turn to in case drastic things happen.2011 QB'sGlennon - returning scholarship playerBrosius - returning scholarship playerImhoff - returning walk-on converted to scholarship playerTaylor - true freshman scholarship player who will be red-shirtingLeatham - true freshman walk-on
4/26/2011 11:54:42 AM
Thanks for explaining that.
4/26/2011 11:55:45 AM
you forgot wilson
4/26/2011 12:25:43 PM
Well I've been away in Florida for a week. Thankfully not a lot went on. In regards to Daniel Evans, he was a scholarship player every year he was here. Originally he was going to be a walk-on, but we found a scholarship for him.
4/26/2011 1:12:29 PM
^^^^ There is some other QB that is walking-on next year as well.

4/26/2011 2:02:54 PM
^ yeah, Stanley. It sounds like he'll be more on special teams though.
4/26/2011 2:03:02 PM
And Summers too
4/26/2011 4:48:36 PM
Summers is '12.Taylor, Leatham and Stanley are '11.
4/26/2011 5:00:20 PM
leatham must have the worst arm ever if he supposedly doesn't have "tools" at 6'5 220you really don't need THAT good of an arm to be a passable college qb so i think this is as good a walk on as you can get
4/26/2011 7:21:51 PM
i dont think the earlier depth comparison is all that aptevans was a pretty accomplished qb in HS and had similar concerns about arm strengthand beck had previous experience from nebraska, right? not much, but about as much as glennon.i mean, we def have "options" but "depth" usually implies competency. All of these guys may be competent, or even great, but right now we just dont know.
4/26/2011 7:31:21 PM
Leatham's release looks identical to PRiv's to me. It was difficult to tell on the video i saw but it looks like he threw a pretty long pass in one of those games.
4/28/2011 8:25:43 AM
I watched the kid play this year, and the game I watched he picked the team apart with a lot of very accurate, thrown hard, but short passes(like 5-10 yard slants, ins, swing passes etc.) and threw a few nice deep balls. He also made some athletic plays running the ball when it was there. He seemed very comfortable in the pocket, a lot of shotgun and he also seemed to have a winners type quality to him getting the sideline fired up as the game went on(it was a close game, he led a comeback). I left impressed as far as local high school QB goes, and I don't know the whole story but there are sometimes more to why a player doesn't have offers. At the end of the day, costs us nothing, and I'm always excited to get ANY players at this point that want to be at our school regardless of stars, offers, etc.
4/28/2011 1:56:25 PM
^good stuff. I played Chris Leak in high-school, and he dismantled us with quick/short 5-10 yard stuff. Nothing long at all, just lots of little daggers. Not saying this guy is Chris Leak, but getting an accurate, highly-productive QB to walk on is a great thing
4/28/2011 2:10:15 PM
Right now on scout, there are 4-5 stars and 20-4 stars with NC State on their list of schools. This seems to be a lot more than in previous years. Is this an indication that more athletes are interest in us? Or, is it an indication that TOB is trying a new recruiting strategy by sending out mass offers?
5/1/2011 3:05:19 PM
^only an indication of us having a decent season the prior year for once!

Yay for getting West, boo for losing Carter. Though it sounded like Carter didn't bother keeping up with school.

Scout updated Summers as a 3-star recruit

^ yeah the math does not add up. He either threw for more total yards over his whole career or less than 3000 yds his sophomore year.

WR Xavier Griffin is the new commit.
