iTunes is the necessary evil you have to tolerate in order to have the right to use an iPhone. I can't imagine how many gallons of Apple Kool-aid you'd have to ingest to be such an avid apologist like gloveco is. Every time somebody brings up one of the many legitimate issues, "features" or downright crippled behavior that iTunes so obviously has, it's like someone insulted his mother and he has to come on here and defend her honor.
9/10/2009 4:28:45 PM
If you want to discuss issues with iTunes by all means don't let me stand in your way. But if you want to come in here and troll bait and bring nothing to the table well you know where you can go for that.two things were brought up in this discussion and you've addressed neither.1) you can't transfer anything from the phone to your PC2) apple does everything possible to make you buy things from iTunes.I've addressed both.
9/10/2009 5:22:34 PM
blah blah blah
9/10/2009 6:08:54 PM
Addressing the specific reasons behind iTunes' shortcomings doesn't really change the fact that it still sucks ass. Blah blah blah indeed.
9/10/2009 7:58:35 PM
agreed
9/10/2009 8:23:25 PM
So what all apps does everyone have on their iPhone...jailbroken and app store.Any word on picture messaging yet or is AT&T just hoping we all forget about it and the problem just disappears?
9/11/2009 11:50:11 AM
^ 9/25 for mms. Free with a texting account
9/11/2009 12:05:27 PM
i dont keep up with tech news at all, and yes this is a serious question...any timeframe for getting the iphone on other networks yet?
9/11/2009 12:57:23 PM
I've heard verizon in CY10.
9/11/2009 1:26:58 PM
About the 2010 rumor for verizon. I wouldn't be surprised if its sometime in late June of 2010 when they announce yet another iPhone. Because verizon is supposed to be launching their new network in 2010 and the current build of the iPhone won't work on it obviously.
9/11/2009 1:33:49 PM
sharepod now has iphone support :-) You still need itunes installed but now you can copy shit back and forth without dealing with the shitty UI or horrible crippleness of itunes.http://www.getsharepod.com/

http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2009/09/iphone31/Fuck they fixed tethering work around. Anyway to uninstall 3.1???
9/12/2009 2:23:32 AM
^tethering still works for me and i'm on 3.1. Non-jailbroken iPhone.
9/12/2009 5:05:35 PM
^you sure? The option was still there, but if you plug it in and activate tethering it deletes the option out of network settings.
9/12/2009 8:22:55 PM
I've activated it and checked again and its still there.
9/12/2009 10:16:52 PM
If anybody wants MMS right now:http://www.appleiphoneschool.com/2009/09/12/how-to-enable-mms-picture-messaging-on-your-iphone/
9/13/2009 8:00:59 AM
i can't get my old blackberry to work to trick AT&T....but i've got MMS set up other than that....just red exclamation points. Just have to wait a couple weeks.
9/13/2009 11:58:58 AM
^^can't get it to work on mine. keep getting an error when i tell it to update using that ipcc file[Edited on September 13, 2009 at 12:53 PM. Reason : a]
9/13/2009 12:47:06 PM
I didn't try it so I dunno. I can't figure out why sending someone a postage stamp sized picture is such a big deal to so many people to begin with.
9/13/2009 1:20:48 PM
Since when was it postage sized? I'm sure it's the same size as when the iPhone emails a picture. You've never wanted to send a friend something funny you saw?
9/13/2009 1:31:17 PM
think i got it working. used a different method though.
9/13/2009 2:37:30 PM
Broke down and got the new one... Well see how much of a difference it makes with me....
9/13/2009 3:07:25 PM
fuck yeagot dat 190% MMS working
9/13/2009 3:11:34 PM
i went to restore my new iphone from a back up of my old iphone, and it says i can't. isn't that what i want to do if i want to get everything back from my old phone (granted all my contacts and whatnot are in mobileme)
9/13/2009 4:29:36 PM
not reallyit'll just restore settings and text messages pretty much. music/movies/apps are not stored in that backup
9/13/2009 4:42:03 PM
oh okay, well i have all that stuff in my iTunes, so hopefully that'll synch up okay thanks oh wise iphone guy
9/13/2009 4:49:57 PM
is there a way to trick AT&T into thinking you have an MMS plan without another AT&T phone?
9/13/2009 4:56:15 PM
^^haha. i only know because i just restored mine..well, actually i restored it once and it didnt fix the problem so i just reset it again and left it as a "new" iphone and started over. mobileME + exchange for work (does the same as mobileme w/contacts and stuff for work) was pretty much all i needed to do to get all of my email, contacts and calendars. pretty cool.^i couldn't get it to work any other way. i had to put my sim card in my gf's blackberry then change my texting plan online for it to work. my voicemail doesn't work right but i think that's because i played with those ipcc files too much and ended up with one that doesnt include visual voicemail. i didnt wanna mess with anymore though and risk losing mms, d'oh.[Edited on September 13, 2009 at 4:58 PM. 9/13/2009 4:56:18 PM
won't it be available in like 12 days?what's the point in messing with it?
9/13/2009 5:01:56 PM
yea, it will be. i was just bored on a sunday afternoon. i'll put everything back to normal after it's "released" on the 25thi've been reading on some other forums though that they're actually updating peoples accounts for the two weeks prior to the official release so there isn't this huge wave of MMS'ing from iphones on the release date. no idea how true it is, though. some people are claiming their MMS works without them having done anything.also: def like the new iTunes. being able to sync movies by playlist makes a hell of a lot more sense than the old way where you had to pick every individual movie one at a time. [Edited on September 13, 2009 at 5:17 PM. Reason : a]
9/13/2009 5:10:55 PM
i just discovered that you can move around the apps on your iphone with the new itunes on your computer.sahweet
9/13/2009 5:18:59 PM
lol, that's like the main feature of the new itunes/firmwarebut i didn't upgrade to 3.1 because you can't jailbreak it yet. or at least i don't think you can
9/13/2009 5:38:09 PM
yeah, I think they're updating the MMS in waves...but you won't notice any difference unless you've got the 5.0 ipcc. They'll prolly just update everyones ipcc on the 25th..I've already got 5.0 so I'll keep checking my mms functionality to see if I get the go ahead.
9/13/2009 6:15:02 PM
^^ dude i'm simple alright
9/13/2009 6:33:25 PM
yeah jailbreaking is for uber nerds lol
9/13/2009 6:35:02 PM
anybody else notice how much faster/smoother itunes 9 is?
9/13/2009 9:20:33 PM
fuck no.iTunes is a slow piece of shit still. i have to click on every thing like 5+ times to get it to register. even to scroll it takes that many clicks.. makes no sense.
9/13/2009 9:26:52 PM
Really? I don't think I've ever had that problem. It was kinda slow until 9, now it feels a lot faster. Using Win7 x64.
9/13/2009 9:30:08 PM
9/13/2009 9:45:46 PM
^you don't text? I find it very useful. It's annoying calling for small things or meeting up with friends, especially when I'm at a show or a loud bar or something. Since when were phone screens postage sized? Most are 2.5-3.5 inches now. Plenty big to make out a good photo.[Edited on September 13, 2009 at 9:55 PM. Reason : er]
9/13/2009 9:52:25 PM
it's NOT postage size when you view it on the phone. there's a button you press that makes it full screen.
9/13/2009 9:52:50 PM
Okay I have to say.... The 3GS is surprisingly faster, I mean yes that was news when the damn thing came out, but I didn't think it'd make that big of a difference
9/13/2009 11:59:59 PM
9/14/2009 12:05:56 AM
Yeah but most people aren't in the email on their phone bandwagon yet. The majority of people have phones with unlimited texts which include picture messaging. So you would be the minority in saying "i could just email that photo". Whereas most people would just send the picture in a text. Anyone can receive picture messages, not everyone can receive emails. You're part of a small minority that favors the data package over the text package.-Also the iPhone has no gmail push, which is what most people use for email. If i want to instantly send someone a photo from iPhone to iPhone a mms is a much better option considering it won't show up until next time it checks for new mail, and this varies per provider, per phone based on when an email will go through. It's just simpler with less hassle. [Edited on September 14, 2009 at 12:20 AM. Reason : .]
9/14/2009 12:15:36 AM
I never claimed I was in the majority. Just that I don't see what the big deal is.[Edited on September 14, 2009 at 12:28 AM. Reason : so really feel free to stop championing your cause at any time now.]
9/14/2009 12:28:08 AM
9/14/2009 12:36:50 AM
Well when I do think about picture messaging I think of somebody sending a 320x240 picture of something from one Razr to another. And I think people that use the iPhone are kinda above that. so yeah, I still don't see why everyone's getting so worked up about it.I mean it should have been there from the start, no doubt. But I still think of it as "kiddie" and it doesn't really vibe with the whole Apple thing. IMO at least. ]
9/14/2009 1:32:24 AM
True. The iPhone really needs push like the BB but until then sending a picture via text is a little more immediate. Also people are more likely to check a text than an email. I wish AT&T would atleast give you the text or notify you you were getting a MMS. My friend had been sending me MMSs for over a month until he realized iPhones couldn't get them.
9/14/2009 1:39:47 AM
i wonder how many noodz will be sent via iphone on the 25th...
9/14/2009 2:21:45 AM
so i was reflashing my iphone to the GM build of 3.1 and decided that i needed to make an inventory of all the apps i've bought/downloaded so i won't forget about them like i have been doing....holy mother of god. i didn't realize it had gotten this bad. everyone should list all the apps they've downloaded, i'm intrigued as to the contents of you people's phones ]
