I have spoken with two unc fans since the game. One didn't know the outcome and one didn't know unc's record. I hate Wal-Mart fans and our fans deserved this win more. Great job by all the players I hope you guys win the acc tournament.
2/26/2014 11:35:37 PM
I definitely wanted to see Gottfried pull a Boeheim tonight.I'm not saying it would have changed the outcome, or even that he would have been in the right. But it would've helped make me feel a little better

Posted this in the game thread by mistake. Meant to post it here.

I'd be more impressed if our team was good enough that they could compete against UNC without having to overperform (and then still lose).
2/27/2014 9:37:51 AM
Guy just can'tget the team prepared . We are pure chaos at the end of every game
2/27/2014 11:08:05 AM
^We were very well prepared for the whole game, maybe except the last 30 seconds.

I thought we had a great gameplan. We win comfortably if Paige doesn't go all Steph Curry on us. Fuck that guy.If we can keep getting good players, I like the direction of this program.

Yeah, the next two years will definitely be interesting. Wondering how we will fare without TJ next year, but more experience, and another great freshman class. Wondering how much of our defensive ineptitude is due to Gott's coaching vs. so many underclassmen. Next year, he won't have any excuse for defense costing so many games. And he also won't have TJ to make the offense look better than it is (At the same time, you could argue the offensive lapses this season are due to not having a single capable shooter...til Turner decides to go off anyway)The previous years had great talent, but head cases that weren't Gott's players. This year, TJ is playing out of his mind, beyond anyone's expectations, saving what would otherwise have been a definite cellar-dwelling performance on par or worse than any of Sid's years. So next year, will be a better judgment for the direction of the program (I'm tempted to say NCAAs or bust, but whew, without TJ? I dono). And the year after that, screw direction- we better see real results...or else! (top 1/3 of the conference, second round of tourney?)
2/27/2014 11:23:08 AM
Lots of close losses this year with consistently bad execution in the final minutes of games. Again, winning 0 NCAA tournament games with a player like TJ Warren is pretty bad. For us to have a chance this year, we needed him to become a go to guy scoring 20+ ppg, which is a really tall order. He's actually exceeded that and we still suck. Coach has to take some of the blame for that.
2/27/2014 1:06:52 PM
yeah
2/27/2014 1:11:58 PM
Not trying to pick on our guys but next years class isn't one I would classify as great. No game changer. Solid players though.mProbably Gotts weakest so far.
2/27/2014 1:27:58 PM
I think Abu will be pretty solid and will contribute as much, if not more than our freshmen bigs this season. And Lacey can kinda be considered in that class and sounds like he may be a big contributor. I assume the twins will take some time to adjust and I don't expect a lot out of them next next weason.
2/27/2014 1:34:04 PM
I'm okay with that. For the most part, we don't need those guys to come in and be game changes...we need them depth. We SHOULD be able to get enough scoring from Lacey/Lee/Turner and our bad-ass frontcourt. I personally think Abu is a beast and the Martin twins will give us good wing depth and hopefully be able to hit an open three.I'd love for our team to be comprised of mostly experienced, skilled juniors and seniors with the occasional freshmen/sophomore phenom (like Warren). There are too many elite programs taking all of the top 20 guys for us to build a team with those players.I really really like what are team is shaping up to be next year.
2/27/2014 1:37:29 PM
Yeah we need to stop the transfers out and get some consistency going with our classes. The transfers in have really helped smooth over some of the guys we have lost though so I give him credit for that. We need to build a squad where we have a lot of very solid 4 year players. We aren't going to out recruit a lot of programs out there for the elite talent. What we can do though is build a strong team, which can trump talent if it plays together well and has experience. A team like Michigan State comes to mind they don't always seem to be full of the one and done guys. They always have solid players who have been around for a while and play great in their junior or senior seasons.
2/27/2014 1:44:15 PM
(i'm pretty sure the transfers we've experienced are the norm, especially when a new coach comes in. it's not unique to gottfried.)
2/27/2014 1:50:19 PM
Yes I know that, hence why they need to stop happening now and should stop happening as we stabilize again.
2/27/2014 1:56:09 PM
I think Abu is going to exceed expectations, apparently was a lock to be a McD-AA but he is a 5th year senior or something, so he should come in physically more prepared. Offensively he's been labeled as having "the best offensive game for a freshman big man that NC State has landed since Hickson." Not saying he's going to come in and put up 20 a game, but I think he'll be physically closer to game-ready than our 3 freshman were this year.I think we can make up for the loss of Warren next year, but it's really going to take some good coaching. This year our offense basically goes through 3 guys for large chunks of the game(Lewis, Turner, Warren). Next year we're not going to have that dominant offensive presence so going to have to have everyone chipping in points, kinda like last year where had multiple guys averaging 10+ ppg.
2/27/2014 2:03:55 PM
Abu is 50, 50 and 52 on ESPN, Rivals and Scout.Physically he will be the most ready freshman though.
2/27/2014 2:13:06 PM
Has TJWarren said a word about his plans for next year or are we all assuming shit?
2/27/2014 2:18:35 PM
Love this discussion about how we will fare long term. Looks like Gott is here to stay. Unless the E Man or face butt in Talking of rankings, were Dez Lee and Lennard Freeman part of any recruiting rankings?[Edited on February 27, 2014 at 2:21 PM. Reason : ]

If he's really being projected mid-first round he basically has to go
2/27/2014 2:32:22 PM
^^ hmmm they must not update player rankings on the team rankings page. Thanks...
2/27/2014 2:33:16 PM
Some friends and I were talking about TJs draft situation after the game last night. If he's mid first round projected he goes because that basically means he won't fall out of the first. If he is later first round he could def stay. TJ's dad at least seems to be business about the situation...not much emotion. They watched Lorenzo and CJ go last year and look where they both landed. They have to take that into consideration.
2/27/2014 2:36:27 PM
Yeah...but Lorenzo and CJ are piss ants compared to Warren. He's a fucking boss and he's going mid-to-late first round. He's gone guys. The sooner you accept, the easier it will be when it finally happens.
2/27/2014 2:41:16 PM
^ I agree...he's gone.
2/27/2014 2:42:39 PM
^^^plus if he goes this year he'll be lost in possibly the most talent-heavy pool of players coming out of college, whereas if he stays a year he'll be the guy capturing the headlines as arguably the best NBA prospect in college.but i agree he's probably gone.[Edited on February 27, 2014 at 2:44 PM. if we lose cat and lewis and lee and turner and warren next year, we'll probably suck
2/27/2014 3:04:15 PM
Warren is a late 1st rounder in this stacked draft. He has MUCH more awareness on court than Leslie and another year won't ruin him.
2/27/2014 3:04:31 PM
yes, clearly the speculation is absurd given our track record of retaining talent since our coach has come on board
2/27/2014 3:05:39 PM
^^ hahahaha
2/27/2014 3:05:49 PM
^^as mentioned earlier, his track record is no different than the average NCAA coach
2/27/2014 3:08:49 PM
average NCAA coaches dont win shitwinners have turd players like Larry Drew and Olek Czyz transfer, not every 5* guard after their freshman year
2/27/2014 3:17:58 PM
Coach K has had PLENTY of 5 star players transfer (like half the big men he recruits that realize two years in that they are there just to set picks). Just because they're 5-star doesn't mean they're good. Purvis was garbage for us at the end of last year and Barber is garbage right now. If he wants to play more...then play better. If he's going to suck and bitch about not playing, then good fucking riddance.

^^ And it's not like Harrow transferring was us losing a stud player. He had some issues. Went to KY, couldn't cut it there, and transferred again. And the jury is still out on Purvis, obviously, but you're right...he was a prima donna who didn't like sitting on the bench (which is exactly where he should've been). Both those guys seemed to have some immaturity problems. And what does Harrow transferring have to do with this current coaching staff?[Edited on February 27, 2014 at 3:43 PM. Reason : Kk]
2/27/2014 3:41:55 PM
Freshman play like freshman. It would be tough to take seeing Purvis and Cat leave right before the biggest leap in most college athletes development (first summer).[Edited on February 27, 2014 at 3:45 PM. Reason : Purvis likely never comes here if UConn wasn't banned last year fwiw]
2/27/2014 3:44:31 PM
We are absolutely fucked next year if Warren leaves. Just like rivers, Wilson, and Glennon hid so many of amato and tobs incompetence. Howell and Warren have completely masked Gottfried ineptitude. We are a truly terrible squad next year. I don't forsee us being much above .500 overall. Our backcourt is going to be lousy and our front court will be about as rough as this year. Without a god to keep us competitive each night we are in big fucking trouble
2/27/2014 6:27:38 PM
Damn face, the truth hurts and that post just depressed me deeply. We always come up short when all the pieces are here then perform well without the pieces which causes us to expect a great future that eventually falls apart only to repeat the process forever. Such a sad state.
2/27/2014 6:52:30 PM
you know, i'm not going to blame gott for ryan harrow being a gigantic pussy. that wasnt his recruit, there's nothing he can do about itpurvis and barber? yea, those guys are his fault. he brought them in. don't recruit them if they're headcases with unrealistic expectationsall you dumbasses thought we would suck this year when I was saying we had the talent to be a bubble team. and we did if not for fucking up the end of like 4 different games with shitty defense and clownshoes errors. i don't think we'll be face level bad next year but I do think we're closer to 17-15 than the Tournament as this point. All I know is Trevor Lacey better be a fucking stud[Edited on February 27, 2014 at 7:06 PM. Reason : AND]
