Where the hell did those chains come from? They got flammable wights working as blacksmiths and running forges now?
8/20/2017 10:16:45 PM
hey guy that can make fire outta nothing, thanks for not making fire to get through the nightthose ravens can move
8/20/2017 10:24:39 PM
The entire time they were walking around beyond the wall reminded me of party banter in Mass Effect and Dragon Age games."Wonder what Thoros and Mormont would say to each other if I took them out in a party together?"
8/20/2017 10:25:28 PM
it was cool to see some of the major plot points finally. I just didn't think a lot of it was well executed. Cinematography-wise sure. Just the timeline of the raven and the dragons arriving is rushed like many other things this season. And they honestly made the army of the dead seem weak af if that small group of dudes held them off for so long sustaining minor casualties. Where did they get the massive chains? The 'Dany' scene or just some of the dialogue in general. The episode is still enjoyable because some of the stuff ive been waiting for for like 10 years is finally playing out, but at the same time it almost felt a bit anti-climactic for me.[Edited on August 20, 2017 at 10:30 PM. Hey Novicaine. Fuck off my dude. I'm glad i didnt open this threadAnyway, night king used the "touch" not the "come at me" gesture, does that mean the dragon has the powers of a Walker instead of a Wight??
8/20/2017 10:43:10 PM
They weren't lying when they said Gendry was the fastest. He covered that ground in like half a day.If White Walkers can drop the temperature enough to shatter a (non-Valyrian) steel sword, why couldn't they immediately freeze the lake again?Otherwise, badass. Was that a dire bear? Looked quite a bit bigger than a polar bear. Also, pretty creepy seeing all those glowing blue eyes watching them on the island.
8/20/2017 10:47:24 PM
I don't understand Arya's motivations right now. She's threatening her sister because she thinks Sansa is jealous of Jon?
8/20/2017 10:57:27 PM
yea its a little frustrating how just ALL of the characters are stupid nowalso while i'm handing out #fuckoff's, fuck off to HBO for having a promotional poster with a fucking ice dragon. way to spoil one of your biggest moments...
8/20/2017 11:01:03 PM
Damn HBO spoiling their Blue Eyes Wight Dragon
8/20/2017 11:06:46 PM
^^Yeah as soon as I saw the Night King pull out the spear I knew where that was headed.

GRRM would have killed everyone off except for Jon and maybe the Hound...hell, he might have killed off Jon. These producers are fucking pussies.
8/21/2017 7:26:35 AM
I want to believe that GRRM wouldn't have had them go on this dumb mission to begin with.

Any chance that Sansa and Arya are playing Littlefinger?
8/21/2017 9:17:17 AM
Arya - yesSansa - noIN MY OPINION
8/21/2017 9:39:39 AM
Garbage episode...so many plot holes. Looks like they are just speeding it along to get this show over with. Seriously why wouldnt the night king throw the damn spear at the dragon sitting there on the rock and literally not moving? Instead he targets the one flying through the sky?[Edited on August 21, 2017 at 9:42 AM. Reason : a]

If two dudes rolled up in your driveway, and one of them was sitting in the car idling while the other was running up in your shit shooting, which one would be your priority?

8/21/2017 9:53:57 AM
I hope the entire final season is just ravens flying and people walking in real time. You people.

The Briene thing caught me totally off guard. I thought LF was telling Sansa to keep Bri close for protection against arya, not to send her packing. What did I miss?[Edited on August 21, 2017 at 10:47 AM. Reason : Or does Sansa want to murder arya and worried Bri will stop her?? ]

You think Cersei is gonna be mad when Jon tells her that in the process of kidnapping a wight to bring to King's Landing, they also accidentally gave the night king a zombie dragon?"There's an army of the undead marching on the north?? You're right, we should unite and crush them--besides, they don't seem so tough!"[Edited on August 21, 2017 at 11:14 AM. Reason : "Well, see what happened was..."]

I can look past the pacing issues (Gendry becoming a marathon runner and expert navigator despite having no experience north of the wall, that raven moving at the speed of a text, ect) because, at this point pacing is going to be fucked. Seasons 3/4 divided up essentially the same 700 page book across 20 episodes while we're trying to divide 2000-3000 pages across 23 episodes (I know HBO eliminated a ton of characters from the upcoming books, but the point stands). It's the leaps in logic that get me mid-episode. The WWs originally were not able to swim to get to the island, then they were able to swim to pull Tormund underwater, then they were not being able to swim when they tackled Jon Snow, then they were able to swim (with giant iron chains!) to pull the dragon out of the water.I don't envy the showrunners at all - bringing this story to a satisfying conclusion is almost impossible, and I think they're doing a good job creating the set piece action sequences. It's the in between bits that setup the actions sequences and act as character building that has been cut, which is a shame. The parts that were in the last episode were fun beyond the wall (Tormund and Hound and Gendry going back and forth), but its few and far between.

When you've got a cannon like that you don't waste it on a stationary target. Got to show the scouts you're ready to play on Sundays.

You guys that are saying fuck HBO do know that the promotional stuff with the dragon that came out was fan made and not an official release from HBO, right?
8/21/2017 2:55:00 PM
^Hmmm interesting did not know that. If true, hbo can de-fuck off I guess It LOOKS very official

Where was the 3rd dragon?Personally, I hoped that it would take more than a southern baptist-like healing hand to the head of the dragon to make him a white dragon.
8/21/2017 6:44:12 PM
8/21/2017 7:14:49 PM
I'll stick to just this episode because I feel pretty much the same way all the book fans do about the pacing lately....my biggest complaint is there are literally endless scenarios they could have written for how/why Dany ends up taking the dragons beyond the wall and they decided on having Gendry run while the rest of them sat on a frozen lake for x number of day(s)?! DAFUQ
8/21/2017 7:19:01 PM
Yeah I mean the only thing I'll say in D&D's favor is that they are doing something that GRRM has thus far failed to do: finishing the fucking series. Yeah, it's sloppy, rushed, and poorly written, but that's better than the bupkus we've gotten from ole' white beard.
8/21/2017 7:30:34 PM
I'm gonna watch it & buy the blu-rays anyway at this point. THEY TRAPPED US!!!!
8/21/2017 7:33:11 PM
god damn. if i ever become a director , not letting any of you fucks watch my show.
8/21/2017 7:58:26 PM
i enjoyed it, silly pacing/timing/logic and all."oh no but the books..." y'all read the books. this ain't the books, this is the show. and you're still gonna watch every single minute of it i was on the verge of gettin upset about tormund though. not ready for him to die yet[Edited on August 21, 2017 at 9:08 PM. 8/22/2017 8:35:24 AM
So how deep could that lake have been? When the white walkers fell through the ice, what was stopping them from just walking along the bottom of it to the island, then just climbing up the side and breaking through the ice?
8/22/2017 10:55:29 AM
8/22/2017 11:49:56 AM
Lots of plotholes but, take it for what it's worth. My biggest thing is them not taking dragon glass with them after it was of the utmost importance. That and why couldn't they just shoot the night king with an arrow and it all be over.My hunch is that the Night King will use the dragon to freeze the water around the wall so his army can go around the wall.
8/22/2017 12:42:04 PM
water around the wall's already frozen in the opening map
8/22/2017 12:57:10 PM
And with the only air force in existence and the element of surprise Dany commits the entire force to blowing up the cannon fodder. Why not have Two dragons bail out the guys on the island (no need to pick them up till the fight is over) and one takes out the head of the army or at least occupys him enough to keep the ice spears out of the game. Whatever. I am watching no matter the issues that come up.
8/22/2017 12:59:26 PM
8/22/2017 1:09:10 PM
I think they were mostly just using iron earlier in the episode so as not to kill a walker when they needed to capture it.
8/22/2017 1:24:45 PM
Dragonglass isn't the ONLY thing that can kill the walkers btw. John's sword (Longclaw) is Valyrian steel which works, but is a lot rarer than dragonglass. Fire also does, so Beric and Thoros' flaming swords were fine. Also, when the Hound did bust his out, it was after he smacked a few of the walkers with Gendry's hammer but saw they were still "alive".
8/22/2017 2:05:50 PM
Do we know that fire kills the walkers? It kills the wights...but we've seen the Night King walk through flames.
8/22/2017 2:19:20 PM
^I think that the walkers are just able to produce extreme cold that would in most cases extinguish fire. When the Night's King walked "through" it, the flames pretty much subsided.
8/22/2017 2:25:57 PM
^^that's why I'm curious if the dragon is a wight or a walker. I had assumed castor's babies were turned into walkers, not weights, by the touch of the king.If the dragon is just a wight that can be killed by fire, it's much less threatening [Edited on August 22, 2017 at 4:08 PM. Reason : Ee]
