My office is across the hall from a conference room and I can clearly hear talking/laughing periodically through the day when meetings are held in there, even with the door closed. I'm thinking the sound carries over the wall and through the ceiling, because that's where the sound appears to be coming from. Thankfully I have a fan I can turn on to drown out talking, but I can still hear the loud laughing.

So they make us have a "teambuilding lunch" once every month or so, and they take votes on where we will eat.

The votes currently stand at:

Quote :
"Ale House 1
Golden Corral 1
Red Robin 1

I shared an office with a dude who had a shitty ass ring tone... That was on full fucking blast. It was extra annoying when you hit that afternoon lull where lunch kicked in and you get sleepy.

Also, we had a team lunch... Boss gave our team of 6 two options, because he knew he'd get six different votes if it was open ended. One fucking twit voted for something that wasn't a choice.

my email address at work is very similar to a lot of others people's and i often get emails meant for other people. typically these just get deleted.

but some group of (what i'm assuming are) elementary school PTA-type parents have been hitting "reply all" trying to organize a classroom tissue collection for 'graduation' or some shit, and are having drama over raising $15.00... so now they are going back and forth trying to figure out how to split it up so it's even... 3 dollars per person is what it's going to end up being, but they can't fucking decide if it's right that THEY have to contribute the 3 dollars instead of dividing up the cost over the entire class.

The employees (i.e. those who get their paychecks from corporate) had a meeting all morning with lunch provided and then got to leave at 1 PM. The contractors (who do the same skill level of work but get our paychecks from other companies) worked a usual day, except it's hard to get shit done when all the employees are out of the office all day.

Second class treatment, as usual.

my boss assigns everyone their tasks by telling another person nearby (rather loudly) what the first person is going to do:

she looks at person A and says, "now, person B is going to put away skates at the ice rink, clean the mirrors, and carry out all the trash from the second floor."

perhaps a way of helping us keep each other accountable? nope. the person she's addressing doesn't have to be an employee. could be anyone who just happens to be in the area at the moment. even a 75 year old korean lady who doesn't understand most of what's being said and just smiles and nods in response. (i didn't make that up. it has happened before.)

Pretty sure someone backed into me at work, though I can't be sure (could've been road damage). Front bumper is cracked and the lower grille is loose.

Don't know if I should make an insurance claim or not. Primarily because I'm not sure if it will be considered a comprehensive or collision claim, and as I understand it, collision claims jack up your premium. I can get the bumper repaired for 1/2 the cost of my deductible. But if I can make a comprehensive claim and have no impact on my premium, I would certainly do that and get a new bumper and have the grille repaired/replaced.

Oh insurance man, contact me back soon.

Well, that was quick. Definitely a collision claim.

I don't know why I posted this ITT.

v yes, there is. but it doesn't matter.

is there no deductible for a "comprehensive claim?"

i guess i don't understand why you would consider insurance when just paying to repair it would cost less than the deductible.

^^maybe I wasn't clear enough.

I can get the bumper repaired for less than the deductible. If you aren't familiar with "plastic" bumper repair, it's a good money saver, but not perfect. I was hit in the same spot that was previously cracked and repaired. It's a very brittle material and doesn't always match that well.

However, this doesn't address the loose grille. A retainer piece (at least one) on the grille appears to be broken now... thus needs replacement. Which together with the bumper repair would be more than the deductible. Thus depending on one's insurance coverage, a claim may be worthwhile and in doing so you can get a new OEM bumper with OEM paint and repaired by the dealer for $deductible.

Now, I don't want a collision claim because it jacks up your premium. I was hoping I could go comprehensive, to avoid premium increases, and get a new grille and bumper. Since I can't, it's back to option A) bumper repair and no claim and hope the remaining grille retainers will hold up (the grille isn't very loose, but enough to notice when I was checking things out - I just prefer shit to not be broken).

tell the insurance company you hit a dog. this will fall on your comprehensive coverage.

[Edited on June 18, 2013 at 1:56 PM. Reason : why do you assume the collision claim will raise your rate?]

^^^collision claims almost always cause your premium to go up. My agent said he thinks it certainly would in this case. If I was thinking at the time I called, I should have said I hit a dog or something. But I was so caught up in the idea of someone backing into me, that I let that idea fly. So too late now; they know I can't say exactly how it happened, thus it's a collision claim.

actual workplace annoyance, which I've likely already posted before:

hearing other peoples' phone conversations... in stereo. Just walk across the damn room.

if you someone bumped into you = collision

if you aren't sure and think it may have been a branch or animal = comp

therefore, no one at worked bumped into you

Being on a conference call with people who are in the same common workspace, therefore hearing what they say when they speak it as well as on a second or so delay on the call.

If our phones had speakerphone capability we could all gather around one desk, but no, that's disabled on any phone that isn't in a conference room or individual office.

-shared office space left in disarray by one person. over and over.
-projects started and not even slightly complete before doing something else.
special projects started when normal work is required, and the attitude that special (read:optional) supersedes normal.
-new transfer purported to be awesome worker, stares into space and wanders as if lost all day.
-being criticized for not doing something that has never been my job, and was expressed recently as specifically NOT my job. you were at the meeting, too.
-having the company owners regal salaried managers that haven't seen a raise or a bonus in 18 months with stories about long hours, sacrificing for the company, etc. sounds great until you remember that my salary isn't magically going to get bigger because I work an extra 10-20 hrs a week, like theirs did, thus the entire meeting / story time was an exercise in futility, and further demoralizes us because we know* they think that storytime did the trick.
-people taking vacations 2 weeks after taking - a vacation. nigga, i need a day off!
-double standards that only apply when it suits.

We had a meeting last week in which they said we should "make ourselves available" this weekend. So everyone assumed it would be half a day or something. Today (2 days before the weekend) we get an email saying 8-5 Saturday and Sunday. He also made sure to note that the building has been cleaned and we should take off our shoes before entering if our shoes are dirty. What the fuck is this dude on lol
