I always use Shawn at Carolina Smoke and Gun in Durham (Southpoint). They are working on a formal store, but he is the best in the area.
9/3/2014 9:25:02 AM
Smoke and guns? They sell BBQ and firearms?
9/3/2014 9:40:28 AM
I second Carolina Smoke & Guns. THey are a great FFL and very knowledgeable about Class I and IV items.

2/8/2015 7:19:38 PM
^^^ why?
2/12/2015 1:04:40 AM
lol some folks can't see past bigger numbers. my neighbor had his .30-06 stolen out of his truck. i offered to let him borrow my .270 and he literally laughed. i didn't waste my time trying to educate him. you'd think an eastern NC deer is as tough as a goddamn rhinoceros the way these rickies hunt.[Edited on February 12, 2015 at 7:39 PM. Reason : hell, 7mm is the standard hunting caliber in europe, but these tards scoff at anything <.30 cal]
2/12/2015 7:38:15 PM
yet they all have as close as makes no difference muzzle energy.
2/13/2015 12:53:24 PM
don't get hung up on muzzle energy numbers. terminal ballistics is complex.

my dad hunted with a 30-06 for years, but got more deer with his shotgun or when walking the cutovers with a 30 30 lever gun. These days he has his 260 or 223 bolt gun to use, and neither of them kick.I will note than when I hunt with a 30-06, its loaded with hand loads tuned for ~100 yard shooting, and it kicks like a 30 30. I don't have any sight lines over ~125 yards on the areas I have permission to hunt. All that said, Anyone interested in 1 or 2 Yugo SKS's? good shape, I bought them factory refurbed in the grease, will even throw in a bag of stripper clips if one of the two, or both, sell.
2/13/2015 10:58:26 PM
haha, like half a fucking millimeter makes any difference to the deer. Now, bullet weight makes some difference, and at a point, so does caliber...but 165 grains out of a 7mm and 165 grains out of a 7.62mm, driven to the same velocity...I don't see how even the dumbest redneck can't see that those are practically equivalent.Yet, they don't.Not to mention that the .30-30 is famously lethal medicine for deer and has been since forfuckingever ago, yet something like a .260 or 7mm-08 is like a fucking death ray compared to a .30-30.Also, I can't tell you how many people (typically not from the southeast) are absolutely stunned to hear that I have killed deer with a 12-gauge. There have been a few whose minds have been absolutely blown at the idea of that being legal, let alone it actually working (shit yeah it works...done it several times. They went down like they were smited by God, except for one which went down instantly and then thrashed briefly).
2/15/2015 9:50:04 PM
Well as long as the bullet stays in the animal you are right.. but if it doesn't deform thats where the difference is made.. both bullets in FMJ would fly right through and one would cause a little more damage... But... don't hunt with target rounds.

2/17/2015 1:58:41 PM
The only gun I've ever used for deer is a 12 gauge (I've always hunted short sight lines).[Edited on February 17, 2015 at 2:42 PM. Reason : ]
2/17/2015 2:41:15 PM
^^he's killed plenty of deer. like most of eastern nc deer hunters, he just doesn't know very much about rifle cartridges.
2/17/2015 5:18:53 PM
Anyone have a marlin 336 or similar they are willing to part with?
2/24/2015 9:30:57 AM
Pawn shops are usually loaded down with them

Feeler: I've got an original type iii m1 carbine. Been thinking about selling. It's in pretty decent shape, but does show its age. I have two magazines for it and a box of what appears to be original rounds. I put about 30 of these through the gun in college because I didnt know any better. Gun did shoot well at that time. Probably going to want somewhere around 800 for it. Let me know if you're interested and I can send you pictures.[Edited on February 25, 2015 at 10:38 PM. Reason : . ]
2/25/2015 10:29:25 PM
Need more info. Not all M1 carbines are created equal. You could start with what manufacturer is stamped on the heel of the receiver.
2/25/2015 11:02:06 PM
Interested. Need more info and pictures
2/25/2015 11:05:18 PM
I will post more this weekend. It's still in my dad's gun safe and I am going to bring it back after I visit this weekend
2/25/2015 11:06:10 PM
Here are some pictures. The number behind the rear sight is 1796524. "U. S . Carbine Cal. 30m" stepped on front of receiver. AAR stamped on stock.
2/26/2015 9:50:04 AM
There is a manufacturer name stamped under the rear sight above the serial number. Shine a flashlight up in there and tell us what it says.
2/26/2015 10:52:26 AM
The serial number corresponds with the maker Irwin-Pedersen/Saginaw
2/26/2015 10:57:20 AM
The maker above the serial number is obscured by the rear sight. Since it has the milled rear sight it covers up most of the words. From what I can make out, I believe it says "Saginaw SG" the barrel was made by Underwood.

Saginaw Gear. It was a division of General Motors.[Edited on February 26, 2015 at 12:58 PM. Reason : looks like it has been reparkerized. u have any idea if it has?]
2/26/2015 12:54:16 PM
I'm not sure. It sure seems like an original finish to me but I really don't know. [Edited on February 26, 2015 at 1:04 PM. Reason : . ]

I'm interested in a S&W M&P 9c, a Springfield Armory XDm Compact 9mm, or a Springfield Armory XD Mod.2 9mm if one can be found at the right price.
