Bluesky is full of people who don’t understand comedy and love to respond in earnest to obvious jokes

assuming we're done joking about the intellectual, scientific and moral credentials of The Catholic Church I found this profile on AI zealot Mark Zuckerberg interesting

Quote :
"Two hundred years of peace will not come for free; you have to do certain things. You wake up, you hit people, you pay them to hit you. Then it’s another subpoena, another lawsuit. The president whose election is your fault is calling. Witness testimony. Congressional hearing. The president whose election isn’t your fault demands you censor the opposition or else there will be new taxes, new investigations. Product review until 3am. Facebook is causing genocide in the Third World. Instagram is responsible for teen suicide. There’s another whistleblower with a book deal. Here comes another Aaron Sorkin movie. You’re behind on AI. No one respects social media or digital advertising. It isn’t rocket ships. It isn’t brain chips or cool cars. The sun still sets on too much of the map, and the map is a prison. Testify. Pay the settlement. Build “personal superintelligence.” Put it in the apps. Put it in sunglasses."

"FilmCraft is a non-linear editor for people who know Premiere: the same panels, workspaces, tools and shortcuts, so your hands already know where everything is. Underneath, it is new from the bitstream up. The H.264, HEVC, ProRes and AAC codecs are our own, written in Rust from the public specifications. A GPU compositor works in linear light. Frame math runs on exact integer time, so edits never drift. And every action in the app is a command that an AI agent can drive as precisely as you can.

Dude built all of the Adobe suite. Just tried out a blend of Pixelmator on Mac and got it working for my exact task in about 10 minutes. Why are we paid again?

Jon Stewart’s interview was really good. Some over the top mocking of executives but the discussion of how meaning is being ignored is something the ai leadership isn’t talking publicly enough about.

Didn't address the China question he brought up in the beginning. The discussion about meaning was implicit in the jobs commentary. Because you can't name or predict jobs doesn't mean anything. There is some good discussion there comparing artisans with industrial mass produced products and the trade offs. There are obvious parallels to white collar intellectual work and products that could be discussed but he didn't. The discussion about the end game is a good one, but gets a little murky like the jobs because it seems far off.

Two families in Garner use there infinite abundance robots to build a super mansion. There is a dispute when one super mansion takes resources, view water, timber from the other. How are disputes handled? People would probably broadly agree not letting the robots build a nuclear bomb. What about weapons and tools for homesteading? What about products that were worth billions 2 years ago but now are worthless because anyone can create them?

This creates a first mover problem. Whoever activates this stuff is the winner. Everyone from the top down is acting like this already.

Quote :
" The hard problem is no longer whether robots can build the mansion. It is who decides where it goes, what it may consume, and whose life it is allowed to diminish."

Doubly true when a trillionaire can terraform a planet. "I'm sorry about your farm, we need a rocket launch field here."
