Hellems hasn't had his one good game every 3 weeks to make you think he's a viable player this year. He can't shoot reliably, can't finish inside, he's just not a good fit on the offensive end.
1/25/2021 8:21:14 AM
he's a 37.5% 3 point shooter. his FG% is the highest it's been in his career. he's fine. he's just not great.

That's pretty wild... considering he's the worst player to EVER put on a Wolfpack jersey (in any sport).

No, he's better than Maverick Rowan[Edited on January 26, 2021 at 10:56 AM. Reason : And Javi Gonzalez]

Big Bart was clearly worse than Adam Simons, and that's saying something.

1/27/2021 10:45:43 AM
250 whole assists! That is terrible for a senior, 4-year starter at PG. Year by year APG:3.92.51.22.6But please continue defending this guy. Shak Moore played 4 minutes against UNC after dominating first game with them.
1/27/2021 11:56:19 AM
are we pretending that BB has primarily played PG for all 4 years now?he's pretty obviously been a shooting guard first that can also spell the primary PG at times.[Edited on January 27, 2021 at 12:06 PM. Reason : you know damn well he's not a 4 year starting PG ]

1/27/2021 12:38:08 PM
So is our team ^^I know but it is not like his shooting has been lights out. He did play well against UNC.
1/27/2021 1:34:15 PM
I think Braxton has a low ceiling but also a relatively small gap bw his ceiling and floor. When his shots are falling and he's getting passing lanes, he's an asset, when shots are missing and a team with tall guards iso's him, he's a detriment. He's a pg in the sense that he can consistently get the ball up court an get the offense started, but in half court he is more like a SG/wing. He's also battled back injuries the last two years that almost definitely have had an effect on him.Im honestly a little perplexed on the shak moore thing too, I've noticed his team D/transition D to be lacking sometimes, so maybe he keeps missing assignments in practice? Maybe he isnt at the right place on offense often enough? He seems to be a good iso scorer and defender, but at D1 level you can have to fit in the scheme too. Cam makes a little more sense, he seems like he is still getting use to his size, he can knock down some open shots but too much often disappears on both ends.

If we lose Shak or Hayes to a dumb transfer because BB is getting some of their minutes, I'm gonna be pissed. This season is a referendum on Keatts in my mind. If he can't turn it around, I'm gonna be officially out on him. We have as good a mix of talent and experience as we are likely to get without already being a consistent contender in the ACC. Combine that with an extremely weak ACC and if we still can't rise above low-mid ACC, then I am out.
1/27/2021 4:15:22 PM
We've had a ton of players transfer over the years bc they weren't getting "their" minutes, so far none of Keatts' look like they are missed (two frosh pg's already). Hayes has a better pedigree and Shak has looked better than Batts or Harris, but maybe Keatts just knows his team and who to play. We'll never really know for sure bc you can't go back and replay games but PG play wasn't even our main worry vs unc. Beverly played really well if anythjng the question is why it was Hayes playing more than shak. Alsop Hayes and Shak weren't really difference makers vs Miami clemson or fsu. Also re Keatts it seems silly to be out on him based on this insane season
1/27/2021 4:31:10 PM
Btw the biggest Keatts gripes is the recruiting misses bc of guys going pro. The question is should he have known better and focused his attns elsewhere? Could he have even gotten someone else?I don't have a great memory but it seems like he deserves more blame for Leque than Hall. Hall seemed way more borderline. Anyway now he has a bunch of guys from way down the rankings that really aren't acc players, or not yet.
1/27/2021 4:40:19 PM
My biggest gripe with Keatts is the absolutely terrible half-court offense. We have been watching the same game since he has been there. Lots of ISO from guys who shouldn't be running ISO. Lots of pounding the ball. No ability to run basic pick and rolls or drive and kicks. I guess you could say the system is fine and our players just can't run it, but in year 4, you have to start wondering whose fault that is. If we aren't generating turnovers and running the ball, we can't score. This in particular is why we can't finish a game this season. Game slows down, no turnovers, we go on a 8 minute scoring drought. It reminds me of Herb's teams at times, but his droughts were for different reasons. The recruiting misses don't really bother me all that much. The reality is that our program isn't good enough to get top tier recruits unless we gamble on some borderline guys. We are going to have to build with 3-4 star guys and develop them well and win with a system. I'm not convinced Keatts's system works at this level. I don't think I will ever get Keatts's fixation on BB and why he gets so many minutes. Sure, he is the coach and he knows more than a dumb fan like me, but at some point if his rotation choices aren't getting W's, then at what point is it ok to question his decisions? Blake Harris was a terrible transfer IMO and without knowing the behind the scenes, it was pretty clear he was in Keatts's doghouse so it's no wonder. We could have really used his depth last year and all the arguments I heard at the time for why BB got 30 minutes a game and Harris couldn't off the bench were bullshit. Was Harris an all-star? Of course not, but he could have and should have been a contributor this year and last.If they don't get the W tonight against Wake, they might as well pack it up this season and cancel due to Covid. He's averaging 10 pts a game with A&T, I think we're fineI also think your underestimating how hard it is to run good pick and roll offenses without top talent. Pick and roll offense require good shooters to space the floor and really skilled big men too be a threat forced the lob or the top. Daniels and funderburk would be the best two but funderburk isnt really a rim runner and teams would stack the paint anyway. That was one of the befits of herbs boring offense, it was based off of movement and intended to be successful without top talent. Unfortunately state fans thought it was too much boring. I get not liking Keatts O but I don't think you can be ok with his recruiting and demand that he run an offense that requires talent.
1/27/2021 7:44:31 PM
I really think a lotta the offensive issues boil down to PG play. Moore and Hayes are freshmen and they have a lotta promise but also very much play like freshmen at times. And DD nor BB are true PGs but are obviously forced into the role a lot.We assumed we’d be super deep this year. Turns out Gibson, Farrar, Seabron, and Dowouna aren’t really ACC ready. And missing on Josh Hall hurts too. [Edited on January 27, 2021 at 8:22 PM. Reason : A]

Funderburk blocking #35’s shit was some real hair on hair crime

The funny thing about this argument is that Beverly has played serious minutes in TWO ACC games so far and we're 1-1 n those games[Edited on January 27, 2021 at 9:00 PM. Reason : E]
1/27/2021 9:00:16 PM
But I thought Beverly averaged 30 mins/game?
1/27/2021 9:08:23 PM
Lmao Beverly gonna get a flagrant here
1/27/2021 9:19:17 PM
Is the point of the hook and hold flagrant to punish players for trying to deceive the ref? Or because dangerous and can cause an injury?I assume the latter. But the way the announcers described the rule, it sounded like it was because it was a form of flopping. But also...i didn’t realize there was a rash of injuries caused by the hook and hold. It should definitely be a foul. I feel like the flagrant aspect of it is kinda overkill.
1/27/2021 9:25:52 PM
I think it's a flagrant mostly to try and get it out of the game. It had become so damn common because it's insanely effective at neutralizing rebounders]

1/27/2021 10:16:41 PM
You can't defend Beverly and shit on Blake Harris in the same breath. They have nearly identical stats per minute. (Harris was a way better defender though). Are either of them ACC caliber? No. That's my whole fuckin point though. Anyways, I'm done shitting on the dude. He seems like a good kid and he has worn the state uniform well. This season is over so we may as well go ahead and get Shak and Hayes as much experience as possible.^ Don't act like BB didn't have primary ball handling responsibilities for a bunch of that year. Call him a shooting guard all you want, he brought the ball up the court as much as our PG... he had more minutes than Markell did that year FFS. Give me a fuckin break already.
