We've been without power for 36 hours. Happy we will be able to open windows and go outside today. The house is starting to smell pretty ripe!

I got nervous when I woke up a little after 4 l, because I saw that flooding was getting really bad, but I looked outside and we are still good.

Cellular data went down yesterday evening. Just now got it back. Still raining off and on down here. Got the generator running now. Not much damage in my neighborhood. Folks are out on 421. Still waiting on my satellite receiver to boot up, but I heard Wilmington is fucked up.

This has to be one of the slowest moving storms in history

Gonna be interesting to see how bad things end up for the areas in the actual path

My parents and brother evacuated, but now they have no idea how they're getting back to Morehead/Newport, what's passable. Waze seems to think 40 to 70 is useable.

I'm sure sawahash can share too, but I can will dig up some of the pictures and videos my Carteret Country friends are sharing.

Went to our house. A tornado went through the back yard. Almost every tree is down in our yard. Thankfully none landed on the house. A few windows are busted out. Our front yard has our curtains and broken glass all over. Our well pump is fucked up. The electrical connection to our house has been ripped off. We are on our way back to board up windows. Fuck yall, this storm was bad.

Please share as many pictures, videos, links, etc. as possible. Other than social media I've seen very little coverage of the widespread damage on the crystal coast beaches and topsail area. I don't know if that's intentional on the part of the media or just because they can't access it at this point.

^^ they're saying at least 12+ more hours of rain. Flooding is going to get worse, not better, over the next few days. Stay safe.

It’s pretty amazing how accurate the models for the hurricane were 7 days out, when you think about it.

And the models out Wednesday seemed to have pretty much nailed the path

^I think so too. I kept reading that the hurricane forecasting is not very good, but IMO they did a good job. I still can't imagine how people dealt with this shit back in the day with no warning.

Not that I'd ever want to give Trump any credit for anything, but I'll say the response this time around from state/local govt has been pretty remarkable. Harvey really taught people a lot and while I know a lot of people ignored the warnings, and the media definitely made this whole things pretty ridiculous at times, the science and forecasting were spot on. It's also encouraging to see how people are actually looking out for each other and coming together.

With that said, this shit is far from over. The storm may be moving away, but a lot of NC is going to be unrecognizable and parts of it are never going to be the same.

You mean Trump jumped quick to respond to a state that helped him win and one he wants in 2020 ?

The grimness of the situation is starting to set in. My house will not be liveable for a long time. Even after the power comes on. We got a lot of water damage on the inside.

ECU sent out a text saying classes start on Wednesday. I have no power. Very limited access to internet. And I'm basically homeless. I dont know what the fuck to do.

Yall, it's really kinda scary not knowing what is going to happen. When my husband and i will get to go back to work and start getting a paycheck. How are we going to pay our Bill's in the next coming month(s). We were trying to save up to buy a house, but this shit is going eat through any savings we had.

I'm going through emotional waves.

We're going back over to our house to try to clean up once we get some day light. I really hope my house hasn't flooded. There was flooding 1/4 mile down the road, so who knows how bad it got last night.

I fucking hate this shit.

^^ star documenting everything in and around your house, both damage and possessions. Start your renters insurance claim now instead of posting to tww if your internet access is that spotty. This is why you have insurance.

^^^^^^I'm betting you could email professors, get out of all kinds of school stuff, and probably do fine.

Or they'll have a special hurricane thing where you can withdraw and get any money you paid for your classes refunded for this semester. Depending on class offerings, this move can set you back more than a semester, but it'll free you up to focus on recovery.
