Am I un-american for hoping Russia plows in there and eradicates ISIS themselves, even if it means they just happen to take out some other rebel groups, and the US doesn't get credit?Let someone else play world police for once...save us $Billions...I don't give a shit who the dictator of Syria is....democracy and freedom obviously works so well in the middle east when the US plays kingdom maker, like how we did in Iraq....

The phony solidarity from American conservatives is laughable. These are the same people that condemned France for opposing the Iraq invasion (Freedom Fries). Of course the Iraq war led to ISIS, the same ISIS responsible for attacking Paris. It looks like France was correct in their opposition.

The refugee threat is overblown to me. Yes, it has a small chance of making it easier for a terrorist to embed themselves in and get in the country but the reality is criminals are going to be criminals no matter what laws and regulations are in place so why try and stop them. Am I right?
11/16/2015 12:22:00 PM
Obama unloaded on Jeb:"When I hear political leaders suggesting that there would be a religious test for which a person who is fleeing from a war-torn country is admitted, when some of those folks themselves come from families who benefited from protection when they were fleeing political persecution, that's shameful, that's not American," Obama said. "That's not who we are. We don't have religious tests (for) our compassion."

11/16/2015 12:33:16 PM
I agree with the blow-hard conservatives are on this. I don't want the refugees here. We need to get Russia/EU/Arab-state alliance to mop-up this ISIS issue so that all the refugees can go back where they came from.
11/16/2015 12:46:47 PM
I was being sarcastic btw.
11/16/2015 1:01:09 PM
^^,^^^The refugee situation doesn't change the equation in terms of ISIS moving people around. It's not clear yet if the Paris shooters even came as refugees, but we know at least 2 of them, possibly more were EU citizens. If you're going to be afraid of the refugees as a group because of a few people, you should also be afraid of your own citizens as a group because of the same few people shouldn't you? But this obviously doesn't make sense.Secondly, for france, there's huge land area between France and Syria. ISIS could likely move people to France very easily, no matter what, refugees or not. I could even envision the refugees making it more difficult for ISIS since they are shunting all the refugees through a process and anyone deviating would be suspicious, and they can only travel with what they can carry with them. For America, fear of refugees is plainly paranoid just by the numbers involved, but also because they would certainly also be put through a process (especially since they have to fly here). This isn't 100% guaranteed, but nothing is (ISIS can get here with or without refugees if they wanted through Canada or Mexico too), and the benefit of helping people would outweigh the costs of acting in an irrational reactionary way (which is what ISIS wants). And that's the third element of this too, there's a famous story of Boris Yeltsin visiting an American grocery story and was amazed and the abundance which forced him to reflect on his own beliefs and policies. What better way to show the world and people who might be candidates for radicalization what western ideals are all about than welcoming fathers, mothers, and children to better lives? THere's not a fixed number of terrorists and good guys, and every terrorist we stop is one less terrorist, it's a dynamic system that is affected by our actions and the terrorists actions. Treating all the refugees based on the (theoretical) actions of .001% of them is not an input to this system that's likely to reduce the present or future terrorists.None of this is to say that the refugees shouldn't be well vetted, as much as possible, to make sure they aren't on any known lists.[Edited on November 16, 2015 at 1:08 PM. ^ assimilation has failed in france not because the people don't want to assimilate, but because they aren't allowed to assimilate-- this is what the riots a few years ago were about. If the reality of your country is that people can't get over their prejudices, then it's probably best not to force them until they're ready. In America, we've assimilated dozens of ethnic groups over the past 100+ years, no reason we can't continue to do so if we set our mind to it.In the bigger picture of things, if a country or society enshrines in policy now that they will be prejudiced against group X for fear of a few individuals, that's not really a sustainable policy in the long run. It will almost always lead to more problems. If we can't face our problems head-on without compromising our principles or ideals, then we've already lost.

11/16/2015 1:36:20 PM
huh? Pushing all the refugees, at best, causes the same amount of people to die, and at worse, causes way more people to die. It won't cause less people to die.

McCrory said he won't be allowing refugees in. Which of course he has no authority over... but still.
11/16/2015 3:05:30 PM
Has Flyin Ryan not seen the influx of radicalized muslims into conflict areas from europe? ISIS doesn't need refugees for attacks when they can radicalize people in other countries already.i agree that this was a response to the refugee crisis, ISIS wants borders to close because that feeds their narrative and helps keep the money and people supply flowing
11/16/2015 3:09:24 PM
You would think at some point we, as western civilization, would come to the conclusion that our response to terror and our policy in general only serves to fuel the ability of these heinous groups to recruit. It's a very hard issue because every instinct is to meet with force and fear but that is exactly what the goal of groups like ISIS want and need.[Edited on November 16, 2015 at 3:15 PM.
