Valkyries are really nice for defense. Witches are fantastic, too. Most of the guys in our clan are mostly maxed-out TH8s or better, and we're talking about transitioning away from dragons in favor of witches to defend. She can distract an army forever if the attacker doesn't bring a lightning spell to take her out.

only bad thing about witches and valks is they're not very effective against air attacks. Valks won't even come out of the clan castle until a ground troop like your King gets in range.]

Valks are worthless against air attacks. Witches are surprisingly good at distracting air attacks. The dragons will go for the skeletons, and by the time it fries them, the witch has spawned more. This gives nearby defenses time to kill the dragons.

Depends. It sounds like you're TH8 so I'd advise maxing the ADs at 6 since you probably get dragon attacked a lot. Archer towers are also effective against dragons. Teslas take forever but can be the difference in 2 stars or 3.

I've always gone with the priority being splash damage first (wiz/mortars), then teslas, then towers, then cannons. But that's assuming your air defenses are where they should be for your TH level. Mass drag attacks are expensive so you really see more drag attacks in wars than in raids. I agree with TT though based on what you have.

Yeah I definitely focused on splash damage first at lower town halls since mortars were so important. Ultimately Wiz Towers are better since they're splash against both ground and air targets. I just remember at TH8 that a lot of times, regardless of air defense, I'd 3 star bases with dragons when they had level 8 and 9 archer towers, but had trouble getting a 3rd with level 10 archer towers. They do a lot more damage than wiz towers but only hit one target, which makes them effective against drags.

I actually went all out townhall level 10 I figured the priority was most defensive buildings possible as soon as possible. I'd rather have 4 air defenses at lvl 5 than 3 at lvl 7.I think you're right about splash damage. Wizard towers seem to be the most effective... upgrade seems exponential too, from +4 to +8Also: has anyone tried a "troll" base, with one open square right next to the townhall? If you position your defenses so their ranges all reach it, enemy units won't be able to pick off your town hall because so much coordinated fire is on that one spot they die too fast (or focus on your hero units/skeleton traps/clan castle troops). I'm gonna redo my base soon. I got three starred last war for the first time since I was a TH8. Anyone have a link to some good TH10 bases? I'm starting to get bored with the game, so I am doing attacks with goofy armies to see what happens. In case you were wondering, 20 level 2 witches will three-star a moderately well-built TH9 with surprising ease, and 30 level 4 valkyries will get 50% on a maxed out TH10.

Teslas are highest DPM defense towers (compared to Archer Towers and Wizard Towers for both simultaneous anti-air and anti-ground defense). The fact that they can surprise an attacker in their placement as well as specifically target pekkas (while doing 2x damage to them), make Teslas very useful. High ROF deliver quick, crippling blows to tier 1 units. They are simply the bee knees. Thus the upgrade schedule for my towers are as follows:1. Teslas/Air Defense2. Mortars3. Wizard Towers4. Archer Towers5. Cannons6. Traps.

By far, the biggest game changer, as far as ability to destroy a well-built base, is upgrading balloons to level 6. They're absolutely worthless through level 4 and barely serviceable at level 5, but they're an excellent unit when they are maxed out.

I agree.So I've been running into bases at war that have a lava hound and a max balloon in their clan castle. It's pretty much the most badass defense there is because the LH tanks for the balloon so if you aren't prepared for it (and even if you are) it takes out a ton of troops. If you can get it in a corner like a dragon it's still tough to kill and then it explodes into lavamites or whatever and the balloon still continues to take out groups. I expect Super Cell to nerf that soon.

^^Aside from getting jump spell to level 2 because it was the cheapest, that was my first upgrade at TH9. Only about 5 days until I get em. Then I'm gonna go apeshit with Loonion and Precision Balloon. Haven't upgraded dark barracks to get hounds yet.

I have lvl 6 balloons also, if you draw out the enemy clan troops to an anti-air then use 3 lightnings to kill both, they are good at taking seeking air mines and building a path to a town hall for dragons. I cant get 3-star attacks though with balloons only. I dont have the lava hound yet though so that would be key

My go-to war army is four lava hounds, 14 balloons and 25 minions with three rage and two freeze. If I bring a dragon in the clan castle and my heroes, there's not a base in the game on which I can't get 50%, and if I can carve a good path to the TH, two stars is well within reach.

I'm just under 2 days away from unlocking dragons. I'll only be able to train one at a time, but maybe that would be enough to be able to mass all dragon attacks. i think my army size is large enough right now that i could take 9 level 1 dragons plus 1 in the CC.

oh green dragon, how disappointing you were. but hey, still dragons. not as bad as balloons, which are totally worthless until they're maxed out. I'm on my final minion upgrade now and have max rage and balloons so I'll be balloonion-ing like a champ pretty soon. Need to work on my valks and lava hounds - they're still at level 1. so is my jump spell but who needs more than 30 seconds of jump?

I started another account that's currently a "maxed out" TH2 lol, that I'm not going to upgrade anymore, but try to push trophies. It's quite a challenge at TH2, as even maxed, you're limited to 1 camp with a total of 30 spaces, can only use level 1 barbs, archers, giants and goblins, and can't even afford to repair the clan castle with the limit of the massive Level 3 Gold Storage. I sniped a TH10 for one star and it took my 8 level 1 archers a good 90 seconds to take down the TH. But on the plus side, with storages and collectors full, I only have a total of 11k gold and 11k elixir. And with the loot penalty for attacking lower town halls, nobody is going to go after me strictly for loot. I really have no way to protect my base if anyone wanted to 3 star me though. But I have my 25 walls in the shape of a trophy, hoping that people will feel sorry for me if I manage to get up to Crystal League or something haha.[Edited on April 6, 2015 at 4:00 PM. When you already have the war in the bag or can't get any new stars, it's best to find the highest base that you can 1-star to get the loot bonus.
