DD and his staff did very well in just two months or so. The hat over at UNC was talking about how they need 18 months to really feel recruit a player as fully as they'd like and you could see a big jump in UNC from last year to this year for the holes. Hopefully DD and crew can show similar improvement this time next year.

^ Probably a wise choice to bring on a guy like that who I assume has strong ties with a lot of NC high school football coaches. State is probably still trying to recover from the Amato era where he pissed off most of the high school coaches across the state.[Edited on March 26, 2013 at 5:08 PM. Reason : fg]

good to hear that Jacoby is doing well..but uhhhh...what about our starting QB for THIS year???after watching the mic'd up sessions it looks like Pete is the starter but Jacoby is dominating.[Edited on March 29, 2013 at 2:32 PM. Reason : f]

^DisagreeWith our schedule, looks like it could be a 3-9 or a 9-3. Could go either way. I don't expect a 6-6 or 7-5
4/23/2013 12:06:47 PM
I definitely expect 7-8 wins. 3 oocs should be cake, dunno how la tech is. Beat wake, BC, maybe two of duke/unc/cuse/umd.
4/23/2013 12:14:41 PM
i'm not expecting that many wins. you can put us down for 2 Ls out of the gate - Clemson and FSU - and 2 Ws - Richmond and CMU.that leaves 8 games that could go either way. the odds of us losing the rest, or running the table are nil. it'll be somewhere around 50% on those 8 games, so we'll finish with a 5-7 or 6-6ish year. TOB left the cupboard pretty bare, and we will be very frustrated at times. especially with UNC being our homecoming game. and the ECU/maryland final two weeks will probably jack us up and leave a very bad taste in our mouth until 2014.if we're going to be bad, i say we give it 100% and really shut the bed so we don't have to give the UNC and ECU douches any more credit than they deserve when they kick the shit out of us

Dude, come on. Years of poor recruiting
4/23/2013 12:58:16 PM
I like how you praised the recent pick-up of a local recruit with no stars. Somehow I don't think your reaction would have been the same if we picked that same guy up a year or two ago. But like I said, I know we don't have any great talents on the team, but we've got a lot of solid depth to build around. I too hope that Doeren & co. can be a better recruiter than the previous staff.

TOB left the team in way better shape than amato did
4/23/2013 1:20:04 PM
+292N.C. State coach Dave Doeren won the coaches competition with a 292-yard drive.
5/1/2013 3:58:21 PM
^^That's debatable. Chuck left him a nice little gift at qb.
5/1/2013 4:14:17 PM
but left huge holes at a lot of other positions.
5/1/2013 4:25:14 PM
^^ Just like O'Cain left Amato with Rivers.
5/1/2013 5:14:20 PM
What position has TOB left stocked for DD? Dline maybe? And that's a stretch.
5/1/2013 6:29:22 PM
If you look at the depth chart (courtesy of some dude on PP), you'll see that we have solid depth at almost every position. No world-beaters, but solid depth: http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=178&f=2515&t=11316750&p=2 (table about halfway down the page)iirc, when Amato left there were gaping holes at some positions, and we had to move guys around just to have depth at every position. At least, that's how I remember it. (and nobody knew how well RW was going to turn out)

5/1/2013 7:45:52 PM
Fair enough. I'm just a bit hypersensitive when it comes to defending Chuck. Good lord he would have loved Russell.
5/1/2013 8:12:25 PM
Yeah, when TOB came in we had multiple walk-ons on the 2 deep for at least 2 years. I think we're fairly solid all around (i.e, the 2 deep is full of D1 players).
5/1/2013 9:01:15 PM
in college you can cover up holes. and walk ons arent always that big of a gulf from crappy scholarship players anyway. you need impact players who can win games and we dont have many of them right nowdepth only matters once youre already at the 8 win level. thats when it's the difference from being clemson and lsu

5/1/2013 11:15:28 PM
So what's your expectation or expected goal for Doeren this year? What would be acceptable? 3 wins? 2?
5/2/2013 12:40:04 AM
i assume someone will be calling for his head the first time we trail in a game
5/2/2013 12:50:30 AM
^^ With our schedule, 6 wins is not irrational. We have 8 home games and play a shit ton of mediocre schools.
5/2/2013 8:48:21 AM
6-6 is a realistic expectation right now with 7-5 likely being my highest. I think 6-6 or 5-7 are the likely candidates though. I suppose looking at the schedule again there are 10 winnable games there if everything went right but lets face it that isnt gonna happen.
5/2/2013 9:06:37 AM
12-2acc championship, orange bowl win11-3 worst case scenario.
5/2/2013 9:25:59 AM
i think this season will be so bad, you cant even give vouchers away
5/2/2013 9:35:09 AM
Well, it can't start any worse than last year amirite?
5/2/2013 9:43:08 AM
it's as if you want people to call you fat
5/2/2013 9:49:21 AM
No, I'd consider losing to La Tech at home worse than losing to Tennessee in Atlanta
5/2/2013 9:49:26 AM
I'd like to make a bowl...even if it's a shitty one. But I wouldn't be surprised/disappointed if we don't.I've seen what having a shitty QB can do to a team (Stone/Davis/Evans/Beck/lollers)...so I know that if Thomas and/or Stocker don't pan out...it could be a painful season.
5/2/2013 9:49:33 AM
I'd consider losing to UCF in 2007 in TOB's debut at home much worse
5/2/2013 9:52:44 AM
Really? UCF was solid that year. Lol Kevin Smith took it to the house the first play of the TOB era, though.
5/2/2013 10:02:18 AM
that game wasn't so bad.now the maryland game to end the season. oof.i remember being one of 3 people in the entire north endzone at the end of that game.

5/2/2013 10:41:03 AM
5/2/2013 10:43:33 AM
I mean, you've already used the phrase "Well, it can't start any worse than last year amirite?" several times now. You're not looking for intelligent discussion/debate. amirite?
5/2/2013 10:43:56 AM
I have made similar points but it happen to come up again in a discussion about Doeren's expectations, which is a new topic. So first time I said it for this topic.
5/2/2013 10:45:27 AM
what was the topic last time? predicting how well the team would do? and the new topic is Doeren's expectations? I see, two totally differently topics. Totally legitimate and intelligent discussion.
5/2/2013 10:49:42 AM
wait, which one of you is the fat one again?
5/2/2013 10:56:09 AM
The one without pictures in the gallery
5/2/2013 10:57:14 AM
Does the tiger not walk the same even if the seasons change? Does the butterfly not flap it's wings the same no matter what the weather?
