lol, just my house.
5/20/2015 10:07:03 PM
^then it would work over wi-fi...
5/21/2015 7:23:50 AM
right, that's sort of my situation...cell signal sucks here, but my home Wi-Fi is always available
5/21/2015 8:05:13 AM
Price drop on the moto X 2nd gen. now $299
6/30/2015 12:33:12 PM
If someone gets another coupon can they send it my way? Thanks!
7/4/2015 1:16:45 AM
^i just checked, there are no promo codes right now. the plans are so cheap dont need to wait for one tho
7/4/2015 6:14:46 AM
when are they going to make that Project Maestro available to everyone, they keep bragging about how it's saving people money, but there are only ~2,000 that are part of it right now I think
7/4/2015 8:52:15 AM
I dunno, but it has worked pretty well for me. I have spent two full weeks this month at summer camps with very sporadic WiFi access but have only used about 172MB of cellular data. I previously did not have a cell data plan and instead was just randomly turn on data when I needed it. I know some that had constant data do not like having to pay for data but I am in the other boat where I use so little cell data I would much rather pay a couple bucks a month extra for the occasional ability to get online while out and about. One complaint that I have though is yesterday my Droid X 1st Gen gave me an out of memory error while just sitting on the charger. I started digging and found the Republic App was taking up 4.5GB and had eaten all of the space on the phone. I had to uninstall it and that finally fixed the issue. My phone was completely fubar for a while though.
7/4/2015 1:55:59 PM
^Exact same thing happened to me.
7/4/2015 10:05:45 PM
So I am about to jump on board finally and I guess the question comes down to Moto X vs. G and then obviously 3G vs. 4G.I have never had a smartphone before, so I figure I will use data while on WiFi and then very rarely use it while roaming. This makes me think I should get the $25/mo 3G plan.Any tips tricks on exploiting WiFi for a smartphone noob? I am assuming I can't buy a Moto X from a previous Republic user right?
7/6/2015 6:55:55 PM
^i, too, never had a smartphone before RW. the moto G with $10 plan is fine. you can change plans 2 times a month so if i go out of town i bump up to $25 plan then go back to $10 when i get back. works out to 50 cents a day for data. the moto X 2nd gen is too big to put in your pocket easily. i not a fan of belt clips. and yes if you can find one you can buy a used RW phone
7/6/2015 7:34:58 PM
I used to have a 4G plan w/ Verizon and switched to RW and have been on the 3G plan... it has been sufficient so far, def worth the savings of ~$80 a month
7/6/2015 8:11:26 PM
If you do Maestro you get 3G and 4G. Just FYI.Also they are rolling 5.1 finally to 1000 invitees.
7/6/2015 9:43:38 PM
I'm under the impression that Maestro isn't available to everyone
7/6/2015 9:44:13 PM
7/7/2015 12:19:36 AM
PAY WHAT WHAT YOU USE DATAWTF THANKS RW
7/7/2015 11:51:45 AM
uhh, was cheaper before if you use over a gig a month. now it's $15/GB
7/7/2015 12:09:01 PM
It's pretty clear they're trying to run off the big cell data users, which I don't have a problem with. If you use less than a gig of cell data per month and had the $25 3G plan, you'll now get 4G speed (on Moto X) and pay less. I fall into that boat, so I'm pretty pleased for the time being. If my cell data needs grow in the future though, it'll be time to start looking at alternatives.
7/7/2015 12:22:11 PM
7/7/2015 1:17:54 PM
I switched to the new plan today where I buy 1 GB per month, but it still only lists it as 3G datais it something down the road where they will automatically make it 4G?
7/7/2015 6:01:08 PM
I don't mind that THAT much but I really hope its 4G!
7/7/2015 7:21:43 PM
You should get 4G if you have one of the Moto X's and in an area that has it. Sprint building penetration can be crap though.
7/7/2015 7:47:11 PM
I switched today as well. It was a no brainer since I use less than 1 gig of data. So I'll save money and have access 4G.
7/7/2015 9:00:43 PM
Yeah I average 0.3 GB a month.
7/7/2015 9:12:34 PM
yeah this deal is perfect for me since I work at home
7/7/2015 9:15:36 PM
So there are shit loads of used Republic Wireless phones on Ebay, with many in great condition.Guidelines for buying used: https://community.republicwireless.com/docs/DOC-2002You all say the 2nd gen Moto X (5.2") is too big for most pockets, but what about paying ~$200 for a 1st gen Moto X (4.7")? Should I be going for the Moto G straight from RW or should I get a used 1st gen Moto X off Ebay? http://www.ebay.com/itm/SCORCHING-REPUBLIC-WIRELESS-BLACK-MOTOROLA-MOTO-X-16GB-1ST-GEN-SMARTPHONE-/281724106572?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item419810b74cThoughts?
7/10/2015 7:45:14 PM
I am much better off with the Maestro plan. I was in the test batch and even camping a couple weeks with little WiFi I still have only used about 200MB with less than a week until my billing cycle ends.^^That isn't a bad idea to get a used phone. I would get a Moto X 2, give my X 1 to my wife and my son could have her G.Also Maestro is definitely 3G & 4G if you have a phone that can use it and in 4G coverage.
7/10/2015 8:16:19 PM
I think I am going to grab a used 1st gen Moto X instead of getting the Moto G new. I can't see any reason to go the other direction.Or I guess I could get a Moto G for ~$100 used.[Edited on July 10, 2015 at 8:39 PM. Reason : _]
7/10/2015 8:29:13 PM
^if you think you want FM radio get the G
7/10/2015 9:15:55 PM
Isn't that what Tune In is for?I do like FM as a fallback though
7/10/2015 10:10:00 PM
^at $15/GB dont think you want to be streaming if no wifi available. would be more wise to download media over wi-fi then play it later. FM is good for wolfpack games. the 101.5 doesnt stream the games, they play music instead.
7/11/2015 11:58:58 AM
oooh yeah forgot about the data limitation with these kinds of services. good point ab 101.5 too
7/11/2015 4:26:32 PM
Do yall think a used Moto X (1st Gen) is worth double that of a used Moto G? Keep in mind that I have never owned a smartphone and I plan to use data sparingly (mainly on in WiFi areas). I guess my problem is I have no idea how much I am actually going to use the thing since I have never owned one. I own a tablet (NVIDIA Tegra Note 7) and I love it for when a laptop is too bulky, so I have a feeling I will probably love having a smartphone. I am thinking it is better to get too much phone vs. too little (in terms of the CPU/GPU/RAM).
7/12/2015 3:19:42 PM
you'll use it more when you realize what it's capable of
7/12/2015 4:43:45 PM
Does the 8Gig Moto G have an SD slot? If not I would get the X. I have the 16gig Moto X version and it does not take long to fill and no SD slot makes the X a bit annoying as well.
7/12/2015 5:05:46 PM
I'm interested in upgrading to a 2nd gen Moto X, anyone here want to buy a used 1st gen Moto X?
7/12/2015 6:26:04 PM
I am interested depending on what shape it is in.So wait, the Moto X (1st/2nd) both have no SD slot? WTF
7/12/2015 8:16:55 PM
7/13/2015 11:43:07 AM
It was nice having 4G today for the first time with the new plans.
7/13/2015 4:53:33 PM
2nd Gen Moto E now available.https://republicwireless.com/phones/moto-e-2nd-gen/
7/14/2015 9:17:57 AM
^nice. they dropped price of G to $99 also...
7/14/2015 9:56:10 AM
Doesn't have a HD display and it's hard to read in sunlight, BUT it does have a SD slot.Moto G vs. E?http://www.engadget.com/2015/03/23/moto-e-review-2015/I think I will probably stay with getting a 1st gen Moto X after reading that review.[Edited on July 15, 2015 at 12:25 PM. Reason : _]
7/15/2015 12:16:41 PM
Moto X is way better. I sent you a PM Blackdog.
7/16/2015 9:32:46 AM
Just a word of caution, the usb port is "weak." After about a year of use, my moto x's usb port is having issues charging. This seems to be a common issue. If you get a 1st gen moto x, make sure there isn't a lot of play in the usb connector when you plug it in. The repair isn't expensive, but time consuming if you are technically savvy. Otherwise, it's $100 for Motorolla to fix.Sweet. I think I"m going to switch... I usually use around 800MB a month...[Edited on July 17, 2015 at 11:09 AM. Reason : .]
7/17/2015 10:54:25 AM
I usually use around 800MB a month, but I feel like 1GB of data is going to eventually be a drop in the bucket, kind of like how 1MB used to be a lot of information and now it's not really that much in the grand scheme of things. I think of it as data inflation...
7/17/2015 11:26:02 AM
Video/Picture quality will be what hinders 1GB.
7/17/2015 11:33:00 AM
I have a (1st gen) Moto X for sale and a black SUPcase. I'll post pics later. I have an offer for it. But PM me anyway if you're interested so I can keep you updated on that offer.
7/17/2015 5:48:05 PM
I haven't read the meat of the 2.0 plans, but i just checked my data use and i've used less than a gig of cellular data for this entire year so far since march (the total data recorded on my phone stays the same past march for some reason), so I'm thinking this will be awesome for me.[Edited on July 19, 2015 at 12:27 AM. 7/19/2015 12:21:44 AM
yeah, if you have TWC or ATT for home internet, and go around town, they have wifi hotspots that are free, and will automatically connect to themI feel dumb for not switching to Republic earlier than I did
7/19/2015 8:08:31 AM
That sounds exhausting. Also what if I want to stream music/podcasts during a road-trip? I hate to be backpacker-neodata686 with my use-cases, but it's something I do often.
