Grand jury to hear this case
3/20/2012 1:40:40 PM
I didn't know it was possible for Hispanic's to have such a heavy southern accent.
3/20/2012 1:45:59 PM
shockingly, it is possible for anyone who grew up in the South to have a Southern accent
3/20/2012 1:49:08 PM
Florida is part of the south?!
3/20/2012 1:51:57 PM
^^ yeah, I know... I just didn't think Hispanics had been around the south long enough to absorb such a heavy drawl. He may not be a good 'ole boy, but he's definitely country.[Edited on March 20, 2012 at 2:00 PM. Reason : "this guy is up to no guuuuwwwwwd.]
3/20/2012 1:54:44 PM
Hispanics have been in Florida for a few hundred years, should be long enough to pick up a southern accent
3/20/2012 1:56:33 PM
yeah, but they cuban's in Miami probably don't sound like this dude.
3/20/2012 1:57:13 PM
just like indians with british accentsstranger things have happened
3/20/2012 1:59:12 PM
and it blows my mind, every time.
3/20/2012 1:59:41 PM

3/20/2012 2:28:06 PM
lol - do you think accents are genetic? goddamn that's dumb
3/20/2012 2:28:40 PM
3/20/2012 2:29:30 PM
First off, Zimmerman is obviously a piece of shit. That said it is a baseless, kneejerk reaction that the police don't care / are covering up the incident because the victim is black. The facts of the case make it very hard to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Zimmerman wasn't acting in self-defense. Even though he chased after Martin, no one knows how it escalated from Zimmerman confronting him to the point where an eyewitness saw Zimmerman on his back, screaming for help as Martin was kicking his ass. The screams are on tape, and as I asserted on page 9, they were made by Zimmerman, not Martin. Since the police cannot prove that Zimmerman assaulted Martin first, then they can't disprove his claim of self-defense.
3/20/2012 5:17:51 PM
I wonder what Brad Cooper would think about ^
3/20/2012 5:19:44 PM
The burden of proof lies on the person who is claiming self defense. Not the other way around. You can't just go around with a gun and pick a fight with children, and then fucking shoot them if they fight back... ... well, maybe in Florida, you can.[Edited on March 20, 2012 at 5:24 PM. Reason : ]

17 year old children, poor kid with a pack of skittles17 is a good age, its the age where they can be angry violent troubled youths or poor innocent children, depending on which way you want to spin the current news article[Edited on March 20, 2012 at 5:45 PM. Reason : ...]

Florida, the second-worst* state in America.*After South Carolina

3/20/2012 6:52:15 PM
Zimmerman already had his mind made up - "These guys always get away with this stuff." He disregards the police's instructions; Follows the guy; Confronts him. He had no business getting involved, other than maybe to follow him at a distance and report to the police.
3/20/2012 6:56:27 PM
I think that burden technically shifts if the defendant is trying to offer a defense to explain their actions (affirmative defense). For example, if your defense is to say "I did such and such for reasons of insanity", it's up to the defendant to prove that he's insane. Likewise, if the defendant is claiming self defense, the burden of proof also lies with them.[Edited on March 20, 2012 at 7:01 PM. Reason : motherfucking skittles]
3/20/2012 6:59:08 PM
^ Yeah
3/20/2012 7:03:55 PM
Nope. Did you guys all fail your civics classes? Insanity is a different issue.Zimmerman simply has to assert that it's possible that he was acting in self defense. Did OJ prove that he didn't brutally murder his ex-wife? Did he prove that ridiculous hypothesis about Colombian drug dealers?Again, the burden rests on the prosecution to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Zimmerman murdered Martin.[Edited on March 20, 2012 at 7:16 PM. Reason : 2]
3/20/2012 7:15:47 PM
3/20/2012 7:18:34 PM
Book deals notwithstanding, OJ did not admit to killing anyone. Zimmerman did.
3/20/2012 7:19:22 PM
^^^Actually I kicked ass in civics, and I know that Self-defense is an affirmative defense. The burden of proof is on the defendant (usually) when the defendant asserts an affirmative defense.[Edited on March 20, 2012 at 7:20 PM. Reason : !!!]
3/20/2012 7:20:15 PM
You completely missed the point. It's an affirmative defense. He will be saying "I murdered this guy, BUT this mitigating circumstance makes it OK "As in, ...BUT I was acting in self defenseor ... BUT I am insaneThe burden of proving that the mitigating circumstance is valid lies with the defense.[Edited on March 20, 2012 at 7:22 PM. Reason : pffft, terpball is the lawyer...]
3/20/2012 7:20:42 PM
Affirmative defense. Thanks for explaining. You guys are right, I'm wrong. That's a first.

This guy should die, and the cops who refused to pursue the case should be fired. If the court system doesn't kill this guy, I hope a vigilante does.Another example why you can't trust cops for anything. Institutionalized scumbaggery.
3/20/2012 9:28:42 PM
No no no, the cops should die too, and their familiesAnd the white people of the neighborhood should have to pay reparations to the minority families
3/20/2012 10:17:58 PM
So now that we know that the cops cut out the part of the audio where Zimmerman said "Fucking coons," can we say that indicates a police cover-up?
3/20/2012 10:46:52 PM
why da heck do they need a grand jury to decide if they should press charges???
3/20/2012 10:53:05 PM
I heard the neighbor's 911 call today and it made me cry. That kid was begging for help right before he was shot. Heartbreaking.

I'm wondering if the OP feels any less white guilt now that it's come out that the murderer is a latino. My guess is that he's lost all interest in the case.
3/21/2012 6:55:50 AM
Haha, I wonder if this is the first time Zimmerman and his dad have ever identified themselves as part of the "Latino" community.
3/21/2012 8:16:59 AM
i wonder if he thinks it was all worth it
3/21/2012 8:46:54 AM
What would you guys tell your children to do if a lunatic with a gun was chasing after them? One thing is certain...it sure is a good thing Zimmerman was able to plea his assault on a officer down, so that he could get his concealed carry permit. We would hate to think this poor, responsible man couldn't have his guns.

Apparently under FL law there is a very low bar to be able to use deadly force.http://www.cnn.com/2012/03/20/opinion/toobin-trayvon-martin/index.html?hpt=hp_c1Looks like a good chance he can get away with it if he can prove he "felt threatened"
