Hopefully it will be a late third. Then early 4th vs late third is a wash. I really like the picks. We needed end help and haven't had a solid return man in years.[Edited on April 28, 2012 at 12:37 PM. Reason : ]

Fuck this mortgaging our future bullshit. It never works out when we trade up using next year higher round pick
4/28/2012 2:32:03 PM
worked for getting Olsen
4/28/2012 2:38:28 PM
n00b question... why do the panthers drafting 8th in some rounds and 9th in others?
4/28/2012 2:47:08 PM
Panthers and Dolphins finished with the exact same record, there was a coinflip between the two teams, which the Dolphins wonso Dolphins got 8th pick in rounds 1,3,5 and 7, Panthers got 8th pick in rounds 2,4,6same reason why the Colts and Rams are alternating the 1st and 2nd picksedit:actually the Bills also had a 6-10 record, so i guess we all kind of swap between 8,9,10 each round[Edited on April 28, 2012 at 3:03 PM. we traded a future 3rd round pick for a player that produced better than anybody we couldve possibly drafted in the 3rd round of this years drafttrading future 1st round picks for Everette Brown is dumb, but sometimes trading other future picks is better than keeping them]
4/28/2012 3:07:45 PM
trading a 3 for 4 isn't sound decision making. ever.just like trading a 1 for a 2 isn't.it's completely different when you are trading for a player who has actually played in the NFL.[Edited on April 28, 2012 at 3:12 PM. Reason : you brought olsen up in an arguement that has he nothing to do with. ]
4/28/2012 3:09:45 PM
you sure are certain of the exact confines of hgtran's argument aren't youJets traded up to get Revis, Ravens traded up to get Ngata, etc, to say its never sound decision making is dumb]
4/28/2012 3:21:59 PM
There's always a one round penalty for acquiring future picks; this is common knowledge among people who follow the draft. The key variant here, as someone stated, is the relative positioning of the picks. When we traded for Armani, we got the 89th pick in that draft of what turned out to be the 33rd pick the next year. Dogshit move, and even though you couldn't know we would have that high a pick the next season, it was a very late 3 for a player with a lot of risk. Here, we're getting a top 10 pick in round 4. The drop in talent from 4 to 3 in general is less than the drop from 3 to 2 (and even less still than 2 to 1), so even if the 3 next year is in the same relative position, its a fair deal given the precedent. However, if we improve next year and say our 3rd next years falls in the 80s, then getting the 103rd pick this year will look like a wise move. A 15-20 position drop for a guy we clearly wanted and a guy who will already have a year head start on whoever we'd take next season. Can't really blame Hurndog for this one; I think its more the stigma of giving up a day 2 pick for a day 3 pick, even if the actual picks are relatively close. The 6th round pick is really just a throw in, as they generally struggle to make a roster.
4/28/2012 3:22:16 PM
please show me an example of marty hurney trading a future draft pick for a draft pick in a later round that has worked out.
4/28/2012 3:24:07 PM
Ricky Manning was a beast corner in our Super Bowl season
4/28/2012 3:27:42 PM
also, remind me who the last WR hurney drafted who was even halfway decent.marty hurney is a shit GM and the panthers will never be great with him at the helm.
4/28/2012 3:29:25 PM
Brandon Lafellfind me another team thats hit on 9 of their last 11 1st round picks (really 9 out of 10 but i'll count Everette Brown as a wasted 1st round pick)]
4/28/2012 3:30:00 PM
i wouldnt call lafell halfway decent yet.
4/28/2012 3:33:25 PM
How about the second best linebacker that we got from trading up in a draft
4/28/2012 3:35:27 PM
^^longest pass reception in Panthers history
4/28/2012 3:39:14 PM
My biggest issue with Hurney is using high picks on RBs and LBs, aruguably the easiest positions to fill in the game. He's hit on so many high picks because he's taking the safest players available. Most really good teams use more high picks in the trenches, on both sides of the ball.
4/28/2012 3:40:40 PM
i just think some people will always think he does a horrible job if all 7 rounds dont produce superstars, which no draft ever will for any teami mean people now want to act like Cam was a no-brainer, when you go back a year ago, it seems like 90% of people wanted Patrick Peterson or Dareus or Fairleyand at the time, who didnt think Jarrett was a good pick? how could you pass on Clausen at 48 when all you have is Delhomme and Moore?[Edited on April 28, 2012 at 3:47 PM. if you can't even give me #2, theres no point in arguing this with you...as soon as Luck said he was staying in school, most everyone on TWW with a brain, most every NFL analyst and expert with a brain, wasn't sold on Newton...if you can't even acknowledge that much i wont bother

4/30/2012 7:09:45 AM
Clausen was a fucking garbage pick. Most everyone except for dick-riding Mel Kiper thought it was a bad pick. Armanti Edwards was just as bad.
4/30/2012 7:14:47 AM
We traded for the 8th pick in the 4th round. So if we win the SB next year, our pick will be 32nd in the 3rd round. So we really only potentially traded back 8 places, not a terrible deal, hahaha.
4/30/2012 7:44:56 AM
^^Clausen was garbage, but without him sucking so tremendously, we would've never gotten Cam. So bravo Clausen Also, Twista is right ... I'd say 75% of Panthers fans wanted nothing to do with Cam Newton before the draft. Peterson, Dareus, AJ Green were talked about ... shit, some even wanted Gabbert over Cam. But I think most just wanted to trade out of the #1 spot.
4/30/2012 9:53:18 AM
I definitely didn't want Cam as our #1 pick, and I even go as far as saying I hated the pick at the time. I consumed my crow and hopped on the wagon after his week 1 performance was followed by another 400+ yard game in week 2.
4/30/2012 10:55:31 AM
I didn't necessarily want Cam but I came around to the pick by the time we drafted him. I definitely wanted him over any other QB, especially that no-talent Gabbert who I saw as just a media hype construction.I literally think Gabbert's agents were bribing ESPN analysts to make him relevant.
4/30/2012 11:25:38 AM
I didnt think Cam would be that good either. Changed my mind after the first preseason game when he had that ridiculous scramble.Quickly took our over 4.5 wins bet. Then he promptly began to suck for the rest of the preseason.Week 1 throws for 800 yards, the rest is history. He hasn't become an elite QB yet or anything, but he might be one in a few months.

lots of the pre-draft talk on here started message_topic.aspx?topic=606881&page=12 shortly after Luck said he was going back to school...I wanted Fairley as well but I'm gonna spend a couple minutes reading through the thread...in the first post of page 12, i clearly had no idea how good an OC Chud would be]

me and thegoodlife3 were holding down the Cam optimism pre-draft in the early 20-pagesface was convinced Newton would be the worst pick possible, but he did have a great Bobcats rantin January, 99.9% of Wolfwebbers wanted someone other than Newtonlol i posted this from my phone from Florida shortly after the pick
5/2/2012 6:59:05 PM
yeah i was way off on Newton, I wanted us to take Samsonite.
5/2/2012 7:23:48 PM
so apparently Charles Johnson made $34 million last season, over 10 million more than #2 on the list.
5/2/2012 9:03:52 PM
Mcshay has the Panthers taking Amerson @ pick #11 in the 2013 draft. Obviously...that more than likely won't happen...but interesting nonethelessedit: Holy shit, just saw he has Logan Thomas (V-Tech QB) goin #17 to the Bills.../legitimacy [Edited on May 2, 2012 at 9:19 PM. Reason : sdfsd]
