You can always tell the difference between a guy that's coached and the guy that plays coach on NBA '12 or whatever.

If Gottfried did that and Leslie fouled out of the game with 10 minutes to go you'd be on here ridiculing Gottfried for leaving him in.

pissed off. throwing a tantrum. pounding the table. chugging my beer. yelling obscenities. making those around me uncomfortable.

yep. that was last night in a nutshell.

The way I see it, this is ACC play and shit like this is going to happen. We should be thankful that we don't have any terrible OOC losses.

Sucks that we pretty much blew our slim, slim chance at an at large tournament bid last night, but you knew we would have a WTF loss eventually during ACC play. Disappointing that it happened in the 2nd freaking game. Oh well, I'll be happy if we can finish with a winning record in the ACC at this point. We are a terrible defensve team even if GT got some very luck bounces last night.

This is our first WTF loss of the season (say what you will about the IU and Stanford games, but they are at least good teams)...I thought a WTF loss would happen much sooner than Jan 11. Hopefully it's the only loss like this, though.

Please tell me you understand that fouling out of the game with ten minutes left is virtually the same thing as sitting the bench for the first ten minutes of the 2nd half.

If you can't understand basic stuff like this, how can anyone have an intelligent conversation?

so oyu don't think the last 5 minutes are the most important part of the game?

in the boxscore they might be the same as far as minutes played, but I would much rather have one of our best players on the floor at the end when the game is on the line that can alter shots than have him sitting the bench.

and I would rather him be making plays the help us win the game than sitting on the bench.

Which do you think is more important

as stated, the time he is in the game is important. if I had to choose between getting a 4th foul and keeping him in the game until he fouled out at the 10 minute mark of sitting him after the 4th and having him play the last five minutes then I choose the last 5 minutes.

dont know how its a wtf loss losing to a gt team that almost just beat duke. we don't guard the three at all by gameplan and we lost on a barrage of 3s. no surprise.

but what if he doesn't foul out???

Then you've made the incorrect decision by a wide margin.

Playing at the end of the game isn't inherently more important than playing during the middle of the game.

This isn't Rock and Jock basketball, there's no 25 point shot and points aren't worth double in the last minute.

He's not a good FT shooter either so there goes that side of the argument.

but just because he doesnt foul out at the end of the game doesnt mean he would have magically played more minutes earlier in the half if you would have put him in. he could have gotten that 5th foul 5 seconds later. would that really be worth it to not have your best player in a very important end of game situation because you wanted to squeeze an extra 5 seconds of playing time out of him? you may not believe that the last few minutes are the most important of the game but then you would be disagreeing with everyone that watches, plays, coaches or has even heard of basketball.

^^^They lost to St. Joe's, Tulane, Mercer, and Fordham too. Yeah they played Duke tough, but I assumed that was an outlier, not their norm. But they definitely played well against us (and we played awful).

Edit to clarify: losing to an ACC team (since we're not duke or unc) is hardly ever, by itself, a WTF loss. But given how poorly we played, I would consider it to be a WTF game/loss

When Lorenzo had those two consecutive turnovers and pump faked from three when there was no one within 10 feet of him I shat myself.

I cant tell if face is trolling or if he really thinks that his logic makes sense. EVERY coach in the country sits their players if they pick up 2 fouls early in the first half. But of course you're a far superior basketball mind than Coach K, Pitino, and every other coach in the universe.

fade to fucking black you sped

A wtf loss is a loss to an opponent you "should have" beaten. Not "could have" beaten, but "should have". We were like 10 point favorites and this team was garbage. Yes they played Duke well, but look at the rest of the their work. They also came in as the worst 3pt shooting team in conference.

It is pretty discouraging to watch a team who is the worst in the ACC from beyond the arc shoot 9 of 15 from 3 playing us at home, even though we were actually playing solid D for the most part. It seemed like it didn't matter what we did, GT was going to hit every shot they took. But what was much more alarming was our sudden lack of offense for a very long stretch against a bad team when that has been our forte this entire season so far

^ Yes, but had we guarded the 3 point shots, I don't think they would have hit as many of them

GT also has a pretty good D. tall and quick. but we missed some many open shots and 3' around the basket shots and missed FT. we have not been doing that all year.

next game will be telling.
