Thanks! On the dead lift, I don't really know why I did it then, I normally don't, I think I was more focusing on trying to set the weight down not on the chains and so I did it.The shoes definitely had me going forward a bit more than if I had on my chucks, I will work on sitting back more. I have been playing around with keeping my feet wider, still looking for that sweet spot.

I messed around with grip width today and found that squats are more comfortable now with my hands way in close on the bar, with my thumbs practically touching my shoulders. I found that I can roll my shoulder blades up further with my arms in close without having any elbow or wrist discomfort. It looks funny, but I'm going to keep squatting like this for a while and see if it feels better long term.

So about 3 weeks ago I started to really watch what I was eating and start working out....subbed a meal a day with a salad (usually it's lunch) and now all my snacks are fruit (i eat 2 clementines, a banana, apple, and some grapes)...so far I've lost 8 lbs in 2 weeks and I have another 12 to go!

Where did y'all get the low carb pizza? I made homemade pizza last night. Used a simple yeast-free dough recipe and substituted out the olive oil for a serving size of all natural organic apple sauce. It gave it a nice slightly sweet taste. I even made some homemade tomato sauce and piled on the fixings including fresh goat cheese (I can't have shredded or pre-grated cheese anymore because of the declumping agents). I'm feeling super pumped today, so I just went to a 70 minute core barre class and am going to work on my punches and kicks with the bag for at least 30 minutes, probably an hourI like having this punching bag - more stress = more punches = more beastly Samwise and I have plenty of stress to go around...

Another round of PRs today Squat 330lbsx6Power Clean 230x1The squat felt good. Maybe had another rep or two in the bank.I need to PC heavy more often. That weight was intimidating and I had a tough time committing to explosive power. It also got away from me a little bit. If I can clean up my confidence and technique with heavy weight, I think I have 15-20lbs to add to the bar.[Edited on January 21, 2012 at 12:30 PM. Reason : ;]

Good workout this morning, but still having a hard time making it through without feeling nauseous. I don't know if it's an overheating issue, or what I'm eating, or what.

Since I hate running and I can only make myself work so hard on an exercise bike, this whole winter I've been mixing in some plyometrics on the days I'm not doing my normal weightlifting routine. I'm happy enough so far but once the spring rolls around all my sports start back up I'll let those be my cardio for the week as usual probably.Keeping up with the almost entirely vegetarian diet as usual.

Love plyo, great cal burner, nut it starts to hurt my knee after 20 min or so
1/23/2012 9:49:24 AM
i went running around LJ yesterday for the first time in a couple of months and ZOMG my inner thighs are killing me today gotta start prepping for the cold weather running in case it's freezing the day of the KK Challenge.

Just finished my first lifting session as a 30 year old.
1/23/2012 11:59:41 AM
i've started run/walking intervals (on the treadmill) recently... I can bust my ass on the elliptical or walking on the treadmill and sometimes barely break a sweat... throw some running in there and it becomes a killer workout for me. Any tips to save the knees? I've held off on running up until this point because i wanted to lose weight before i started because i don't want bad knees.
1/23/2012 1:16:45 PM
^ Get properly fitted for shoes. Try and run on the ground instead of pavement. Obviously those are basic, but that's what I do.I honestly have no idea, but I feel like the impact of running on a treadmill isn't as bad as running on the pavement. But that's just my uninformed opinion.
1/23/2012 1:33:13 PM
i was actually talking about knee stuff with DivaBaby19 earlier this morning. i found that with the amount of interval and weight training that i've done, my knees are a thousand times better now because i feel like i have built up enough muscle around my knee caps to help support them properly. before they would slide around and rub against cartilage which would cause me a lot of pain post-work out. i still have days when my knees hurt but i found that it happens a lot less now than in the past

captains of crush 1 came in today. thankfully i am able to close it

back to bikram this am... doing that with a headcold = not a good ideaJCASHFAN seemed to enjoy it though
1/24/2012 9:26:09 AM
i would like to try bikram. there's a studio in raleigh i want to check out that some friends go to - i just need to find an afternoon to go. anyone is welcome to join me* - i think i am going to try to get to a 3:30pm class in the next couple of weeks. *no creeps please.
1/24/2012 9:32:34 AM
my advice is to hydrate the shit out of yourself in the few days leading up to your first class. and don't go when you have a head cold
1/24/2012 9:34:55 AM
i drink about 4-5 liters of water a day so i should be okay. i also plan on going in the afternoon so i know i can make sure i drink enough during the day.
1/24/2012 9:51:12 AM
3:30pm is too early to even consider
1/24/2012 11:11:23 AM
Liters Ok, Farva.
1/24/2012 11:12:58 AM
LITER COLA! and how am i supposed to describe how much water i drink? ounces? Liters are just easier because my giant cup is about 1 liter so i know to drink a bunch of those. [Edited on January 24, 2012 at 11:39 AM. Reason : i love super troopers]

I've always wanted to try bikram; I think it would do me good to sweat out about 10 pounds every now and then. how much are the classes?
1/24/2012 4:49:43 PM
my place is kinda pricey... but i think that's just cause i'm in nova
1/24/2012 4:56:13 PM
nova is a community collegethere is no place called nova
1/24/2012 5:17:00 PM
Technically speaking, nova is not a community college. It's the Northern Virginia Community College. Just as nova is an abbreviated way of saying Northern Virginia. So yes nova is a place

we tested my bench max today, was able to get a rep out at 230 never broke 2 plates before, felt pretty awesome. I've been eating so much chicken the past 3 weeks. This was def worth it
1/24/2012 5:43:38 PM
the only reason i would consider bikram is that shirts are optional.

nutrition-wise, lets say I am getting in 200g protein daily while working out during a strength training series for 8 weeks. (male, 29, 6'4", 202lbs) but the calorie number is around 2100-2200/day when it prob needs to be in the 2600-3000/day range. Will I still see muscle gains and the body uses fat reserves to burn for energy, or will my body just burn the protein for energy instead of using it to build muscle.keep in mind i have no clue what im talking about here, so nutritionists of tww I apologize in advance and try not to cringe too much reading that. thanks! basically my goals are, would be nice to get super buff looking and also burn off all my fat at the same time. 2 birds, 1 stone?[Edited on January 24, 2012 at 7:23 PM. I love Bikram. Classes are ten to twenty bucks a pop here in Orlando. Not bad for a 90-min class. Great sweat. Wonderful if you're detoxing, since all you want is water after. The idea of booze and junk food is after Bikram.

adding on some weight now - feeling a little soft around the midsection and fighting off the urge to judge solely by the number on the scale.but just about hitting my goal for the month in weight and will have to hold steady now
1/25/2012 9:19:01 AM
I still don't understand other guys' obsession with simply putting on weight . I guess maybe I'm the weird one; I've never tried to gain weight even though I'm 5'8 135. I just like to stay lean but athletic for my size.Is your real goal getting stronger and you are just consequentially hoping to gain muscle mass ("weight") in the process?[Edited on January 25, 2012 at 9:51 AM. Reason : ]
1/25/2012 9:50:32 AM
^ If I was taller, I would probably want to put on a little weight and fill out a little more. But I'm short like you, so the more weight I put on, the "stumpier" I look. I still want to stay strong, but not at the expense of being shaped like an oil drum. So "lean" is the look. But the taller you are, the "lankier" you look. Putting on 5-10 pounds would be a lot for someone at our height...but taller people need to put on a decent amount of weight to not look like Gumby/bean pole.
1/25/2012 10:33:03 AM
ive been overweight-obese most of my life, gaining weight is always a worry of mine and losing weight is always the goal. Now that i've lost a bunch of weight, am in better shape, it was tough for me to accept that if I wanted to get stronger, I'd have to be comfortable with gaining a couple pounds, because it's been somethign i've wanted to avoid for so many years. When i got down to ~190, my trainer said it would be a good idea if I switched up my diet, started taking in a ton of protein, 2800-3000 cals/day, and try to add on 5-10 lbs of muscle adn get me up to 200-205. I just was alittle worried i'd get carried away and next thing you know I'm 240lbs and a fat lazy mess. So far that hasn't happened yet and my trainer was right. I'm 202lbs and I feel like controlling my weight has never been easier in my life. I can gain/lose as I please and feel stuffed way more than I ever feel starved because I eat right. Thank god for that.
1/25/2012 10:34:35 AM
jesus christ im an inch taller than you and if i lost 60 lbs i'm pretty sure i'd die
1/25/2012 10:35:05 AM
1/25/2012 10:35:52 AM
gotcha. I guess you have an entirely different perspective on height/weight/muscle ratios at 6'5"
1/25/2012 10:38:08 AM
6'5 180 is pretty leanim 6'4 202 and feel about right. I'm running 18% BF though, need to cut that down to 12%. Gonna take some work.My plan is to get ~206 during my strength training phase, so add another 4-5lbs of muscle hopefully, and then cut down to 15% BF, i.e. drop ~6 pounds by switching my routine to intervals, cardio, and low carb, low fat meals.rinse and repeat a few more times, hopefully I can get to 12% in a year
1/25/2012 10:44:09 AM
Signed up for my first 5k of the year for March 31st. It was really cold at last year's race so I'm going to start training outside so I'm used to it. Today is my first run outside in awhile, it's supposed to be 41 degrees afterwork Sure that's warm for up here this time of the year but it's still cold to me
