duck is usually more expensive than beef
9/17/2012 10:50:45 AM
True, but the amount of duck on the plate did not justify the $17 price tag. It was six thin slices of duck.

I definitely came post 2005 - lower quality days. Not even in my top 10 burgers in raleigh, not even close. I think I had a decent short order breakfast there one day, but that was about the only moderately memorable meal.
9/17/2012 3:27:56 PM
I've lived in Raleigh a total of 8+ years and I've never heard of The Burger Hut. If the place was that amazing I find it a little odd.
9/18/2012 3:19:30 PM
it was in one of the most unassuming strips ever/extremely easy to miss
9/18/2012 3:28:40 PM
Yeah I've never heard of it either and I've lived here for almost 20 years [Edited on September 18, 2012 at 3:38 PM. Reason : e]
9/18/2012 3:38:48 PM
Yeesh. I lived in Cameron Court for a couple years and often walked over to the ghetto mart for milk/beer/whatever. After 2 years, I still never figured out the hours that the Burger Hut was actually open.
9/19/2012 9:37:20 AM
^same problem here....terrible hours. always looked closed!

Nice! The current Amtrak station is tiny, this will be a welcome improvement. It will also be a little more walkable from most of downtown, the fact that it's actually on the same side of the tracks as the rest of downtown being one reason.
9/21/2012 3:35:20 PM
I'm just glad we are getting some development on that South edge of the city, it gets a little sketchy around the projects there
9/21/2012 3:47:10 PM
I'm hoping this will also mean increased train service, but I won't get my hopes up too much
9/21/2012 3:48:56 PM
Increased train service between Charlotte and Raleigh is already on track as they are doing work to double track the line and make a lot of the crossings grade separated I think.
9/21/2012 5:10:12 PM
lol on track lol
9/21/2012 5:30:20 PM
Didn't even catch myself doing that lol
9/21/2012 5:48:11 PM
If they increased the speed slightly between raleigh and charlotte and raleigh and dc it would make train travel a viable option as compared to flying. With parking/security/etc. a 4.5 hour trip to dc doesn's sound too bad. They need to get the trip to charlotte down to around 2 hours. (I think it takes about 3+ now)

a subway...in that prime location? that sucks. i thought there was already a subway tucked away somewhere for the lunch crowd.
9/25/2012 3:32:16 AM
^Yep, one block away on Salisbury... this sucks.
9/25/2012 6:09:54 AM
If that gross subway smell wafts out of that place, I'm gonna be pissed
9/25/2012 7:09:11 AM
9/25/2012 8:12:03 AM
There's already TWO Subways in downtown Raleigh. Do we really need a third
9/25/2012 8:31:59 AM
Fucking Subway is a scourge upon this earth!
9/25/2012 9:21:31 AM
Seems like a pretty big space for a Subway
9/25/2012 9:27:34 AM
I wonder if this means they're closing the Salisbury Street location. Seems kind of retarded to have a Subway every other block.
9/25/2012 9:35:54 AM
Ugh, subway blows.
9/25/2012 9:53:07 AM
So is the one on Salisbury shutting down?
9/25/2012 11:21:17 AM
I would never go to Subway when Jimmy Johns is a couple blocks away
9/25/2012 2:04:11 PM
9/25/2012 3:11:35 PM
I've thought about this subway mess some moreand I'm still SO ANGRY
9/25/2012 3:12:15 PM
Should put in a pizza place that sells pizza by the slice there
9/25/2012 4:09:09 PM
Speaking of that area, wasn't Kings/Neptunes going to open up some sort of restaurant on the ground floor. It used to be Martin Street Pizza, but I never heard anything but bad reviews. I thought I remember something about the owners trying to get some sort of variance to allow for a pick up/street service window.
9/25/2012 4:48:11 PM
I hope the Salisbury subway closes. Also I think the Martin Street Pizza place is still being renovated.
9/25/2012 5:46:56 PM
geez, how long does that take? Didn't they close down like 3 years ago?
9/26/2012 8:24:27 AM
based on the kings barcade website the restaurant will eventually be called the garland
9/26/2012 9:22:13 AM
^^ They're probably just working on it as they have the capital rather than taking out a big loan to renovate everything. I would guess that the space wasn't up to code and they're having to overhaul the electrical, etc.
9/26/2012 9:24:10 AM
http://www.raleighnc.gov/home/news/content/CorNews/Articles/UnionStationFunding.htmlRaleigh could have a decent train station by 2016, although I don't have any concept as to what $60 million gets you. I am sure a heavy portion of that will go to tracks/decking/infrastructure.
9/26/2012 10:00:21 AM
Don't expect anything amazing, but it will be a massive improvement from the current embarrassment for sure. I would expect a larger and nicer waiting area, hopefully a convenience store of some sort and maybe a restaurant or cafe and level-boarding platforms. They are renovating the Dillon Supply Viaduct building rather than building from scratch.
9/26/2012 10:08:14 AM
I'm just happy that area is getting a little development. Now we need some gentrification to move East.
9/26/2012 10:09:48 AM
^Agreed, this and Citrix moving in to Dillon Supply should go a long way to helping improve the warehouse district.
9/26/2012 10:34:11 AM
Not all downtown proper related but some interesting restaurant news:CowFish (from Charlotte) is now heading to North Hills in the CapTrust building. The original rumor had them opening up in the old Nelson's/Foster's location, but the current rumor for that space has Harris Teeter acquiring and using it as additional storage or grocery space. Also, BurgerFi is now open on Wake Forest Rd. behind the Trader Joes. I would be interested to hear if anyone has eaten at one, has a review. Menu looks good. Also looks like Nails (sp?) from Hibernian is opening up a pub in Oakwood/Person St. area, and another location of Hibernian out by 540 in NoRal.
9/28/2012 11:06:49 AM
^ I went to the BurgerFi in Cary when it first opened up. Nothing I would go out of my way for. Personally I think Cook Out makes a better burger. That's exciting about Cowfish. I wish it wasn't going into North Hills though
9/28/2012 11:36:16 AM
http://www.newraleigh.com/article/former-rosies-plate-building-in-historic-oakwood-area-to-become-pub/If you ask me Nails should open a nail salon there.
9/28/2012 11:37:47 AM
Too bad Hibernian is terrible. It'd be nice to see a good pub open up in that location.
9/28/2012 11:46:07 AM
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2133298461/the-fiction-kitchen-vegetarian-restaurant-needs-eqAnd these folks are trying to open a vegetarian restaurant next door to deep south. Speaking of which, is that terribly cheesy rock bar still there? Can't remember the name but they had the horrible 80's hairband looking logo with the split V guitar.
9/28/2012 2:52:57 PM
No, it's gone. I actually drove past today and think the veggie restaurant is using their old space.
9/28/2012 3:11:59 PM
^^ haha ahh yes the sandwich shop with the sub guitar logo. Why am I not surprised that failed?
