4/10/2013 2:40:37 PM
Too soon to tell. Could just be ddos against mtgox. That will hold trading and cause huge swings.
4/10/2013 2:51:23 PM
Down to $105
4/10/2013 3:31:54 PM
I don't know what to use for a source of information.
4/10/2013 3:34:47 PM

^MtGox suspended trading. It's more like $79. Here's another exchange: https://www.bitstamp.net/
4/11/2013 8:18:35 PM
i'm thinking about buying a few of these, holding on to them, and just seeing what happens in the long run.
4/11/2013 11:49:19 PM
current price: $75.10
4/12/2013 7:28:05 AM
I'm waiting on it to get back to $3, then I'm gonna put $500 in and I'll be a millionaire in 2 years.

I'm not sure if it has been mentioned yet, but the idea of a crypto-currency hit the public consciousness because of this book:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CryptonomiconBruce Schneier helped with the cryptography parts of the book.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_SchneierBruce coined the term "Security Theater" when talking about Homeland Security, and was the inventor of blowfish. He did the Pontifex cipher for the book, that uses only a deck of cards.
4/12/2013 5:57:56 PM
I actually did not know that about Cryptonomicon. I've read 4 Stephenson novels but figured that one was boring. I'll have to check it out.
4/12/2013 8:01:49 PM
I left my last few coins in my wallet and will just save them for a rainy day, if they ever shoot up again. I never caught it at my magic $200 mark to get rid of these last ones.

^ I THINK the point was that currency's main purpose shouldn't be speculating. The fact that this is how it is, isn't a good sign. Anyone who thinks otherwise might be fooling themselves.

Lot of bitcoin news recently for some reasonhttp://www.forbes.com/sites/louiswoodhill/2013/04/11/bitcoins-are-digital-collectibles-not-real-money/Also for something that is supposed to be an improvement on money, it doesn't really help me keep track of the obligations owed between two parties -- I don't know what it's worth and nerds are creating this shit out of thin air.
4/15/2013 11:22:48 PM
Yeah, moron got it.

I had to go Bitcoin -> BTC-E -> BitInstant -> Paypal, but dinner for my wife and I, and a tank of gas courtesy of bitcoin tonight. The fees hurt like a mother. After a couple of mistakes on my part, like trying to use Mt.Gox and Dwolla, I ended up with $90.26 deposited to my paypal account for 1.0005 btc. There is still 23.70011798 USD in my BTC-E account, so I will move that here in a few minutes when I move another 1.0005 btc through. Just sold another 1.0005 for cash.Deposited this transaction for $134.98, bringing my payout for 2.0010 coins to $225.24.

whats the problem using mt gox and dwolla? that's how i've been moving money in and out for the past year or two.
4/24/2013 8:21:34 AM
has anyone noticed a lack of geniusboy posts since this thing went nuclear? /u/BITCOINBILLIONAIRE EXPOSED?

i'd love to be able to ditch mt gox, but exchanging through other sites seems expensive. fees upwards of 20%
4/24/2013 12:27:09 PM
^^^ That's because he's suspended.

I have like 1.3 BTC. I offloaded most of it at $180 and more of it at about $110. When it hits a bottom and "stabilizes" could be the best time to buy back, where there is a market...
10/2/2013 5:19:28 PM
doubtful. if it goes below $100, there are going to be a ton of buyers. myself included.
10/2/2013 8:39:44 PM
You are correct. There's a psychological wall at $100 now, so when people see it in double-digits they'll buy. I find it comforting that they're going after criminal enterprises directly, rather than outlawing the currency all together.
10/3/2013 11:02:35 AM
i just noticed how i previously complained about not having a mt gox alternative for easy BTC purchases. well, i now use coinbase, which is the easiest way i've found to securely purchase bitcoins via linked US bank account. they charge a 1% fee per USD to BTC transaction.https://coinbase.com/?r=51fa8bc85ad4af85a9000021[Edited on October 3, 2013 at 1:24 PM. Thought you guys might find this interesting. I got my first Jalapeno from Butterfly Labs today. This is so low powered, even though it is like 10 video cards, it will only generate like $50 a month, but it's neat to play with. It's currently hashing at 5.2 GH/s.[Edited on October 16, 2013 at 11:06 PM. Reason : .]
10/16/2013 11:06:25 PM
How much does it cost to run that damn thing
10/17/2013 3:56:40 AM
The power supply it came with is rated at ~100 watts, so not terrible. It's certainly got a better hashing/wattage ratio than a video card.
10/17/2013 9:15:33 AM
How much bit coin does the FBI control?
11/8/2013 7:52:44 PM
^^^^ that little box just runs 24/7 and makes you $50 a month by it crunching numbers?
11/9/2013 3:48:35 PM
Yep. It's making even more now that bitcoin has gone to ridiculous prices.
11/12/2013 4:18:06 PM
haven't posted a price update in a while:$360All of us feeling pretty stupid because it was at $2 during this thread's existence?
11/12/2013 8:42:57 PM
$427 as of a few minutes ago. I'm loving it.
11/13/2013 1:48:30 PM
don't get me wrong, i wish i had "invested" early on so that i could cash out with real money
11/13/2013 2:38:52 PM
I just bought 5 humble bundles with bitcoin. Converting my bitcoin to charity and getting some games in the process is pretty neat if you ask me.
