I would just kill all the animals in the affected areas. No need to waste resources on them.People are superior animals.

Its not that simple. If only millions of people could freely roam the planet and drop their stuff when they reach Iowa...[Edited on April 13, 2011 at 1:37 AM. Reason : wise guy]

I'd rather have money going to fixing the radiation rather than some fucking animals.
4/13/2011 2:55:21 AM
Yeah, because throwing money at third world shit holes like haiti has solved all of their problems
4/13/2011 7:09:31 AM
Personally the only money I've donated is to Doctors Without Borders because they can operate independently of the Japanese government and I donate to them regularly anyway. The Japanese government is incredibly wasteful and oftentimes corrupt in their spending and I don't want them having a say in how my donation money is spent.

Haiti? we're talking about Haiti? we're talking about the French "reparations", embargo & naval blockade Napoleon put on Haiti, and the ensuing high interest loans they had to take out?yeah, i didn't think we were talking about Haiti.i thought we were talking about Japan.. so, back on topic..[Edited on April 13, 2011 at 12:04 PM. this is the only forecast model i can find right now that's up to date but this shows that we're starting to get mid-high levels of caesium 137 here in the US now.http://www.woweather.com/weather/news/fukushima?LANG=us&VAR=eurad5000http://www.atmos.umd.edu/~tcanty/hysplit/

this model is from the norwegian institute for air research showing the forecast up to the 18th so we're getting mid levels of xenon 133 here in NCthey also have the forecast models showing iodine 131 and cesium 137 updated nowhttp://transport.nilu.no/products/browser/fpv_fuku?fpp=conccol_Xe-133_;region=NH[Edited on April 14, 2011 at 11:43 AM. Greeeeeat. If I get cancer I'm srsly blaming japan. But really, being ignorant, is there anything other than running that can limit exposure to this bullshit?
4/14/2011 12:35:19 PM
^^So, for the layperson, what does that mean?
4/14/2011 12:39:30 PM
Probably that over the course of the next month you will be exposed to enough radiation to be the equivalent of 1/100th of the radiation you'd get during one x-ray during a dentist's visit.I'm no scientist, but I did sleep in a Holiday Inn Express.[Edited on April 14, 2011 at 12:53 PM. Reason : -]
4/14/2011 12:50:32 PM
i'm no expert i'm just looking at what the weather patterns are bringing overi believe cesium 137 has a half-life of about 30 years, xenon 133 is about 5.2 days and iodine 131 is about 8 days. cesium 137 will decay over time into barium, xenon 133 will decay into a stable cesium 133, and iodine 131 will decay into xenon 131 which is stable as well.i'd try to avoid getting any rain on your skin for a while. this is also gonna effect our food and drinking water as it comes down.some herbs that can aid in protecting yourself are thyme, rosemary. you can make a tea with either of these if you feel like you're getting radiation poisoning. seaweed/kelp is a really good source of iodine as well and will help protect your thyroid. miso soup is really good too.

this is arnie gunderson, chief nuclear engineer at fairwinds associates, inc. giving his update about what's going on and what to expect if anybody would like to embed thishttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKrpw5OmyGche's been doing a pretty good job of giving updates on the information while most of the government sites have not really been reporting any data at all.http://www.fairewinds.com/

^^Sucks about the rain. I was out in it all afternoon with no umbrella this past... Tuesday was it? Got soaked.
4/14/2011 2:56:06 PM
Are we being serious about the rain cause it's supposed to rain all day tomorrow. Is it like liquid cancer? shitfuckpiss
4/14/2011 8:52:49 PM
i wouldn't worry about it.
4/14/2011 8:54:53 PM
I'm not concerned about 1/100th of the radiation of a dentist xray but if it's more I'd like to do what I can to avoid as much as I can humanly possible.
4/14/2011 8:59:26 PM

yeah, serious question. some herbal-only people are nuts & since i don't know you, i don't know if i should believe you. why not just take iodine tablets? plus smath's answers are usually the opposite of the real answer, so i'm even less inclined to believe.you could be right, idk. my question was really directed at other people.
4/15/2011 8:23:08 AM
yeah, iodine tablets would be good to if you feel like shit's gettin serious but i wouldn't worry too much about that. it's always good to at least know about alternatives if there's a shortage, but the situation here is really not that bad to where you would need iodine tablets, that's why i was just suggesting simple things you can supplement into your diet because it can do nothing but help (unless of course someone has a food allergy or something). i just wanted to give people options. i've been able to get good results with using herbs & extracts for certain ailments that i've had to deal with before, but that's what works for me and i know how my body will react to certain things. people need to learn how to discern for themselves though. what works for me might not work for someone else, but i can only speak on my experience.

^^^ Damn...Seeing the people running out of the homes just seconds before the water came.I don't think some of them made it. There was the old woman carrying something and the water just kept catching up to her. Then there were the people that were on the path to get to higher ground. It looked like they were trying to take their furniture with them. One old man kept going back. I think their child or a family member got caught in the water. And think, that maybe they would still be alive, or not in that predicament, had they not been so materialistic and gotten the fuck out of there instead of trying to save something that really didn't matter in the end...
4/18/2011 1:40:51 AM
^Yeah, that part towards the end, I'm pretty sure three people got swept out trying to help someone.Scary stuff.
4/18/2011 2:24:37 AM
4/18/2011 9:41:20 AM
^^^ this is probably not the American-style materialism you're imaginingthere's a good chance that what the old person was carrying were the bones or ashes of their family or deceased spouse

^^that brings up an interesting question....do you think americans would take their couches and shit that doesnt matter in the face of such a disaster.im willing to bet the majority wouldn't. i mean things like pictures and heirlooms yeah....but those cute shoes or that endtable....nah (for what its worth-it sorta bugs me when america is the representation of all that is bad. i mean we are definitely nothing to exactly envy but i mean i feel like people who live here are much more harsh than they should be. i could be very wrong, and feel free to prove me wrong!!! ....)
