Bailey Noelle is here!

Induction started out smoothly enough but turned to hell at the end. We checked into the hospital at 6pm to start cervadil (I was only around 1-2 cent. dilated). The next morning (after 12 hours of the meds) I was checked and was only up to a 2. So they started pitocin at a very low level. Checked again a few hours later to break my water and was only at a 3 (so the bag stayed intact). Pitocin was continuously increased, things got uncomfortable, and stadal (sp) was given through the iv to take the edge off. That stuff knocked me out (in a drunken haze type of way)! Epidural came later (while I was still drugged up from the earlier stuff). The anesthesiologists said they were slammed in the ER and wanted to make sure I got the meds before it was too late.

By late Thursday evening I was still wasn't far along but had managed to hit 5. The water was broke and pitocin bumped up even more. Then the epi started to wear off. Anesthesiologist came back in to check me out....upped the epi meds which caused me to completely lose the ability to move my legs.

Then I realized the vag was not numbed. Not even a little bit. The legs were numb, the stomach was numb, the butt was numb, the vag was normal. NOT a good sign. I hit 6 cent. and the babies head entered the birth canal with all the glorious feelings. From 6-10 cent I thought I was going to die from the pain. It was absolutely unreal how bad it hurt. I have no idea why or how women do this without pain meds. From her coming down, the episiotomy, the baby coming out, and stitching it all back up....I felt every damn bit of it.

BUT we have her and are totally in love with all 8lbs 3oz and 19.5 inches. I'll say it was worth it but I know I won't be forgetting the pain anytime soon!

Thanks for all of the well wishes!!

Oh God.

So I *thought* that I had already lost my mucous plug. Oh no, I had just seen a small part of it. The rest of the thing came out today. My husband was like "WTF is going on in there." because I was in the bathroom going "Oh God. Oh no. Ohhhh. . .that is so gross. There's more of it?!" and on and on. While the actual plug wasn't really gross looking, the whole process of getting rid of the entire thing was pretty yucky. (It didn't just fall out.) Blech.

Congrats ashley_grl... I hate that you had such a hard time with the epi though.

She is beautiful!

The epi part was awful! I had never questioned that I wanted one, it was put great big on my files, epi please!

I kept telling the hubs that it wasn't fair. I wasn't a hippy, all natural person. I didn't want to feel it! Oh lawd it was hard.

But again super worth it! Oh and we need to start a breast feeding thread before too long. We're attempting that and having some hiccups along the way. Any good BF advice from experienced mamas?

My sister loved the local resources through this organization: http://www.llli.org/

They have local groups, coaches who will come by to your house, and forums on exactly that subject. My sister had a hard first two weeks, but she stuck with it, and breastfed for the whole first year. I'm really proud of her!

I was just about to suggest la leche. They really helped my BFF when she started. I've got their number ready for when I start.

Also check out their book "the womanly art of breastfeeding"

Congrats, Ashley! What issues are you having with breastfeeding? I had latch issues with my first son for a few weeks before we both got the hang of it. I went on to breastfeed him for 9 months. And I'm on month 9 (and counting) with my second son... so we've seen it all!

I agree about LLL - they helped me tremendously when I felt like giving up! Try to find a local meeting.

So... I have the cold from hell... and don't want to take anything since I don't really know what's safe to take. On top of that... all the mucus is making me extra nauseated.

Benadryl and Tylenol are safe according to my OB (and many online sources and books I've read). Call yours to check if you'd prefer. And of course rest, fluids and vitamin C. Hope you feel better soon!

^ Yeah, I've seen that those are fine

Robitussin and Mucinex aren't expected to increase any birth defects. This is a good website for a lot of other meds: http://www.otispregnancy.org/otis-fact-sheets-s13037

Also, if you have a question about a specific medication you want to try let me know... I have access to Reprotox which is a database of all the literature there is out there on basically any medication you wanna know about. It'll tell you what's safe, what's dangerous, and what is kinda "meh" (as in not enough research to really know)

^^ Thanks. I'm hoping I'll start feeling better soon. I hate taking medicines not preggers - I really hate it pregnant. May have to though cause it doesn't help anyone if I can't breathe.

^ Good to know there is someone who can check.

Oh I'm not even pregnant yet But we'll be TTC this spring! The only thing that sucks is a friend of mine is getting married in Seattle in August and I'm a bridesmaid. So if all goes well I'll be 5-6 months pregnant What's the latest you can fly while pregnant?

Depends on your doc and the airline, but as long as you have a note should be ok at that mark

Whew good to know. This girl is the sort to go all bridezilla and get pissed if I couldn't fly. Hell she'll probably be pissed if I'm showing and can't wear a dress from the company she wants us to use.
