yeah... ok you're right there... i'd never run penzoil in my car... for a while they were low bidder oil too and made none themselves... however...
4/21/2011 6:55:36 AM
I don't do used oil analyses. Ignorance is bliss.
4/21/2011 3:29:29 PM
yeah fuck that shitSuper Tech for life.
4/21/2011 4:05:01 PM
If only this was drive by wire compatible damn thats pretty
4/22/2011 2:38:15 PM
it has been converted. basically the conversion is have the Drive by wire operate the linkage. there are other designes of ITBs for that setup as well...but none as well known as the tomei. I will say I have never seen one on a street car, only ever show stuff.
4/23/2011 12:37:09 PM
me too... from what i've seen ej25s don't like the rpms required to make it worthwhile...that and the damned manifold costs as much as a built & sleaved short block.

So, i've been trying to figure out the fluttering boost i keep hearing on dyno runs. It seems that it happens with the 3port ebcs and ewg combo because people don't put any flow restrictor in there anywhere to even out the pressure from the pwm control of the solenoid. So the ewg is opening and closing on the same pulse that the ebcs is or some harmonic frequency of it. Next: I've also figured out and (this pisses me off) that anti-surge compressor housings don't push the surge line back on the compressor, they slow down spool time to ensure it doesn't cross the surge line. And i've also figured out where the surge line comes from.If anyone knows much about fan curves you'll get this, at low speeds some fans can flow multiple different volumes at the same static pressure. In a building this would cause a pulsating effect on building pressure. This is the same effect that compressor surge is, at a certain rpm of the compressor the fan can flow multiple different air volumes at the same pressure. When a building fan does it its varying the flow @ 2-4 inches of water column where a turbo/compressor is doing it at 20+ psi (or 550+ inches of water column) which is why it is violent enough to break things.

How do you have the external wastegate hooked up? Are you using the side port only or the top port and side port?
5/13/2011 12:42:16 PM
I don't have one yet, and i probably won't ever. I don't want a screamer pipe on the car and if i go rotated then i'll probably go EFR and weld up my own setup if BW ever gets their crap together. Right now i'm P&P exhaust manifolds with the stock cross pipe ported and polished ceramic coated up pipe and thermal dispersant down pipe with a vf52 and i'm getting ready to do a fuel pump because i had to pull some boost due to the stock pump losing pressure.
5/13/2011 1:05:52 PM
I for the life of me can not understand why some people don't get the concept of bulding an entire engine to match??I have 272/272 cams with an 18g turbo... WHY?Why would you do that ?? you just made your 18g laggy for no reason!!if you want cams, get low duration high lift cams with that turbo or better yet NONE AT ALL BECAUSE YOUR ENGINE CAN HANDLE EVERYTHING THAT SNAIL HAS TO OFFER.
6/15/2011 5:10:10 PM
usually you see that when someone is building up slowly, cams are not nearly as easy to do as a turbo swap later, so they just put them in when it is out. but this guy could just be a tool
6/15/2011 5:48:58 PM
yeah... purchased 18g blew motor got big cams.. ..got ya!
6/15/2011 6:10:45 PM
this is probably the most n00b question ever but when I try to shift into second gear I sometimes get a crunch sound, and either way I feel a lot of lag before it "catches". The other gears have no problem. Is this my clutch or transmission?
6/15/2011 8:04:10 PM
yay for Subaru transmissions.
6/15/2011 9:34:42 PM
It's the synchronizer in your transmission. If it grinds, you are shifting too fast... Don't force it, you'll just poke your eye outadd more wear.[Edited on June 15, 2011 at 10:06 PM. Reason : .]
6/15/2011 10:05:40 PM
is there any way to replace/tighten the sync or would this be expensive as hell?
6/17/2011 2:15:01 PM
if you're out of warranty it will be expensive. you might want to try changing the gear oil first to see if that helps. i know a guy who swears by royal purple 75w90 so maybe you could try that out, definitely a lot cheaper than replacing a worn synchro]
6/17/2011 2:26:12 PM
had to sell the beefed up wrx. guy who bought it texts me yesterday. he finally dynoed it - 310hp to the wheels
6/17/2011 3:07:29 PM
Thats pretty good for a stock turbo I would imagine.
6/17/2011 3:13:29 PM
for gear lube on the wrx stick with the subaru Go Extra S...
6/17/2011 4:11:00 PM
+1 for the OEM gear oil.
6/17/2011 4:31:47 PM
its so ugly but i want one so bad.... anyone have any idea if an ea-81 and an ej207 share any similarity at all ? i mean... could a jdm sti swap even be remotely possible?then i'll rally cross with yall all the time.^^^^ what wrx dynoed 311hp on a stock turbo?[Edited on August 2, 2011 at 3:53 PM. Reason : .]
8/2/2011 3:51:23 PM
If only spoon made engines for subaru
8/2/2011 3:56:24 PM
cosworth makes pretty good ones.
8/2/2011 3:59:16 PM
No a EA81 and a EJ are not really common swap stuff. but if you yank the entire driveline out of a brat you can put in EJ stuff. Ryan at TT has a 83 turbo brat as his daily driver.
8/2/2011 8:20:58 PM
thats awesome... its orignial turbo right not ej turbo? i mean so i'd be looking custom engine mounts custom tranny mounts custom mounts for an r180 and end up with a shell of a subaru or will anything swap... i mean that one appears to have sti control arms knuckles etc. do those bolt on or are we talking fab up some custom brackets.
8/3/2011 8:27:54 AM
that is likely a complete custom suspension as the later stuff is nothing liek the brat, the brat shares suspension with the old GLs as well as a odd 4x140 bolt pattern. basically you owudl have to take the bratt body and build mounts for the GD or GR front and rear crossmembers.
8/3/2011 5:55:28 PM
Tribeca isn't heinous enough for you?
8/4/2011 12:17:05 AM
does the brat weigh like 8lbs or something? why spend so much time and money polishing a turd like that?[Edited on August 4, 2011 at 1:37 AM. Reason : .]
8/4/2011 1:36:48 AM
lol yeah it weighs around 2000lbs +or - 100but i like the truckness of it too lol...[Edited on August 4, 2011 at 8:18 AM. Reason : and the t tops ]
8/4/2011 8:18:15 AM
get a baja
8/4/2011 8:56:01 AM
uhh.... no...
8/4/2011 12:34:57 PM
i had a friend that just got rid of a baja. he thought he was colin mccray in that bitch. what a pathetic little car. nice lesbo mobile though
8/4/2011 3:05:08 PM
i had a friend with a baja who loaded the back full of potting soil and the car would do wheelies... its truck bed is more a novelty item then even remotely functional.
8/4/2011 4:32:45 PM
8/4/2011 4:57:27 PM
non turbo foresters and prii are the lesbian vehicles of choice... i don't know who drives a baja....
8/5/2011 8:43:26 AM
i'm looking for a used 2010 or later outback with the 3.6 engine. i found the perfect one at johnson chrysler jeep but didn't move fast enough & it's gone now. the just aren't as common as the 2.5s. if somebody knows of one for sale, send me a PM. i've been searching everything i can think of online.
11/6/2011 7:24:27 AM
any particular reason for the 3.6?
11/6/2011 8:20:36 AM
moar power ... and the new models don't have turbos in outbacks i don't thing... which makes me wonder WHY IS THIS IN THE TURBARU THREA? lol
11/6/2011 8:24:05 AM
i have a 17' skiff i'd like to be able to tow. not on a regular basis or anything, but the ability to tow anything would be helpful. also, after driving a civic for several years i'd like to have something with a lot more power. and yeah, the new ones don't have turbos. i didn't notice the turbo in the thread title until now. fail. my bad[Edited on November 6, 2011 at 8:27 AM. yeah, not a bro
11/7/2011 1:09:39 PM
OOOF just announced the next model is going 1.6 liter turbo to balance mileage and powerAnd look sexy as hell too.
11/7/2011 1:27:18 PM
1.6L turbo's are awesome.
11/9/2011 6:34:32 PM
lol... no but they don't suck either
11/10/2011 10:33:05 AM
1.6LT was the best engine i've ever owned
11/10/2011 12:45:49 PM
Yeah i don't really understand the whole bore/stroke routine on boosted motors.Smaller displacement engines rev higher easier (until you run into $texas valvetrain zone) Once you reach boost threshold staying above that is all that matters so a small displacement high revving engine is all you really need. It also minimizes piston stresses and angular stresses as well as knock from poor flame propagation.
11/10/2011 1:01:40 PM
^ for what application?
11/10/2011 3:41:24 PM
Good point its all a balance with head shape valves etc.
