I'd laugh if Dan Gilbert is right and Cleveland wins a championship before LeBron. Go JJ Hickson!Since link was on bottom of page: http://www.nba.com/cavaliers/news/gilbert_letter_100708.html[Edited on July 8, 2010 at 11:29 PM. Reason : Added link]

i really don't care about much in this whole hullaballobut i will say that contemplating Cleveland's pro sports history in the past 40 years really makes me feel better about our own "NC State Shit"also, Dan Gilbert's open letter was fucking retarded. simply unbelievable.
7/9/2010 1:32:16 AM
god just LOL at everything that happened tonight....its surreal...the corporate whoring (vitamin water, bing, U of Phoenix, Boys and Girls Club, etc), ESPN's self-promotion (which isn't that unusual, I guess), Lebron's self-aggrandizing, putting children in the background to make him look like a good guy, Jim Grey, Dan Gilbert's meltdown in comic sans. Was this mentioned in revelations?

The reason he left seems obvious to me. The Cavs didn't do enough to make Cleveland livable. If Cleveland spends the same amount of money as Miami, gets big names like Bosh and Wade (out of thin air it would seem), and somehow could compete with Florida's zero percent income tax, it's still fucking Cleveland. Despite what The Drew Carey Show says, Cleveland does not in fact rock. Rivers used to spontaneously combust in that town. Fire rivers? Didn't Dante write about those in one of his cantos? Now down to business. Is anyone starting a pool on weather LeBron gets caught with blow or straight crack yet? It's a city of temptation. He could take the JaMarcus approach. Get fat sippin on that sizzurp. Day one of the post LeBron in Cleveland begins today.
7/9/2010 8:03:22 AM
wow, that letter radiates butthurt
7/9/2010 8:11:34 AM
Lol, kobe isn't half the player magic was. Magic is one of the greatest players in the history of the game. Sheesh people have such short memories. I think its hilarious kobe won't be on the only superteam out there so he'll actually have to play well in order for his team to win this year. I'm willing to bet he will fake an injury like vince carter did this year so he has a ready made excuse for losing. Now, the heat aren't good enough to win yet so they need to be smart in the pieces they add. I think ben wallace should be their primary target he's coming off a monster season and they need defense and rebounding badly to beat the lakers. I think chalmers is solid enough if they can find a cheap veteran backup option for him. Getting rid of beasley was a good move since he looks like a total bust and they don't need any distractions.Good lord the celtics panicked taking on jermaine oneals corpse but I guess they are worried about perks knee injury.Travis outlaw is a good player but my god the nets overpaid. As of right now the east stands in this order (reg season):Orlando - loaded, duhon is a small upgrade but they need to resign redickMiami - need to round out the rosterAtlanta - still a 50+ win team but they need to get a center badlyMilwaukee - great offseason acquisitions, ilyasova can only get better, if bogut is 100pct they may be #3Boston - rolling the dice for the postseason but this is going to be a really ugly reg season teamChicago - boozer addition makes them better but they need to replace heinrichCharlotte - need to resign felton to stay in this spot but a sign and trade would be better to make space for chris paul. This roster isn't settled yet and thank god the tyson chandler for beasley and jeffries deal didn't go through what the fuck is jordan doingThe 8 seed shouldn't even exist bc as of right now there isn't another team in the east that can win 35 games, I'd have to give a slight edge to the knicks I guess

Christ, that letterYou have to wonder how Gilbert made all that money with Quicken with that kind of mindset
7/9/2010 9:12:00 AM
exactly
7/9/2010 9:19:31 AM
I agree, but the way Lebron did it was a bitch move as well.
7/9/2010 9:22:13 AM
there are so many things wrong with that letter that its no wonder that Lebron left. There is no way that was the first time he showed his ass like that. Noone needs another reason to leave Cleveland but Gilbert somehow is just that. He is motivated now? Now he is serious about championships? Why not work that hard when the best player in the world fell in your lap 7 years ago? The Cavs deserve to be as terrible as they are going to be next season with an owner like that.
7/9/2010 9:27:15 AM
imagine the effect the letter would have had if he wrote the following in "Chiller" font."The self-declared former "King" will be taking the "curse" with him down south. And until he does "right" by Cleveland and Ohio, James (and the town where he plays) will unfortunately own this dreaded spell and bad karma."
7/9/2010 9:27:40 AM
The Cavs franchise literally lost over $100 million in value over night, so the guy has a right to be upset.I wouldn't be surprised if he took the mic pregame at the Heat's first game in Cleveland next season and officially called him out Kevin Nash style."You know, for 7 years now, LeBron has been acting like he can walk on water. And I agree with him...because everyone knows a turd floats."
7/9/2010 9:31:56 AM
Gilbert is a fucking loser. Does he not have any staff that maybe would have looked this over and told the dipshit he comes across as a whinny little bitch?
7/9/2010 9:36:04 AM
surprise? the cavs never wanted to spend enough to get him really quality teammates you act surprised by this....there are reasons why teams like cleveland, New Orleans, Minnesota, Memphis, Toronto, Utah, Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Clippers, Denver, Indiana, New Jersey, and Orlando have either never even BEEN to a finals series or ever WON a single one.they are either small time markets, the owner sucks, or they are the second fiddle team in their city/area.
7/9/2010 9:39:46 AM
i think what Cleveland fans are struggling with is the fact that he didn't leave for more money or shallow reasons, he left to win. he left because after 7 years he doesn't have faith that anyone Gilbert puts in charge will have the ability to build a dynasty. no cleveland franchise will sign anyone the caliber of James. It has to sting that even the ones that born and raised in the area want out.[Edited on July 9, 2010 at 9:42 AM. Reason : o]

7/9/2010 9:58:11 AM
Lebron may have just done the only thing that could get the majority of America to root for the Lakers in the finals next year.
7/9/2010 9:58:36 AM
7/9/2010 9:59:36 AM
How are you going to hate on the fact that the Cavs wouldn't spend money when they were one of the top 5 teams in the league in salary? Gilbert was paying plenty of luxury tax to try and appease Lebron.Every single transaction made by Gilbert over the last couple of years probably came with Lebron's blessing. I would give Lebron equal blame for the team that was constructed during his tenure. They made every effort to win, they made trades at the deadline to try and get better talent. They won the most games last season. They weren't exactly a bad team.
7/9/2010 10:00:13 AM
^^^ definitely under. wont sniff 25. Somebody made a good point last night that Magic, MJ, and Kobe didnt have to go chasing somebody down to win championships. Bitch move and with or without winning rings, a tarnished legacy.
7/9/2010 10:01:52 AM
They never got him a decent teammate or a decent coach, so yeah, I can't blame him for leaving. With that said, no way in hell I ever root for that Heat team. Which sucks, because individually, I like all 3 of those players.
7/9/2010 10:04:46 AM
they never got him a decent teammate or coach?Mo Williams, Shaq, Antawn Jamison, etc. etc. arent decent players?! Granted they arent superstars like Dwyane Wade or Chris Bosh, but they are definitely above average players - hell they are ALL STARS. With all the money Cleveland had tied up in Lebron, it was not possible for the Cavs to sign anyone except for these average to above-average players. They were trying to find the right combination of players that could contribute when Lebron had an off-night while still being humble enough to let Lebron take the majority of the teams shots. They were looking for Lebron's Bill Wennington, Toni Kukoc, Steve Kerr, John Paxson and Horace Grant - unfortunately he needed Scottie Pippenas far as them not having a decent coach, thats just a retarded statement. Mike Brown was the coach of the year two years ago and led the Cavs to the best record in the league the year before he was fired. He was the scapegoat and was fired even though he is a good coach. The Cavs werent going to get Phil Jackson or Popovich to come coach the Cavs, if thats what youre getting at. Maybe you mean they needed to hire Coach K or Tom Izzo, who are unproven coaches in the league. They went out and got Byron Scott - regarded by many as the best coach availableugh, just so much fail[Edited on July 9, 2010 at 10:14 AM. Reason : asdf]

mike brown was a terrible coach, he just rode lebron for all he was worth

^^^^You're Right, Magic, Kobe and MJ didn't have to chase down other players to win championships. 2 of those players played for the Lakers, a franchise that has done nothing but win for the majority of their time. Cleveland is the anti Lakers, they know nothing but how to mismanage. An athlete's prime is so short, that he doesn't have time to wait around to see if they can reverse the trend of professional sports in Cleveland and get their shit together.
7/9/2010 10:26:17 AM
2 for 7, and the only ones I got right stayed with their own teams
7/9/2010 10:30:57 AM
do you not think that if Kobe stayed with the Hornets, he would have eventually left to pursue a championship?
