Just watched the first 2 episodes! I agree that Peter Dinklage steals every scene ... he's great! So far the Lannisters are way more fun to watch than the Starks. They're just too stoic

The part where Jamie throws Bran off the window ... it was my favorite part. just like I imagined it!!

Dammit I'm getting irritated that they've almost completely cut out the direwolves. Shit, we still haven't even SEEN a larger than puppy sized Ghost.

Glad they got the actor they did for the Night's Watch commander (name escapes me at the moment) he's pretty much who I pictured while reading the books.

Can't wait to see The Mountain and the Knight of Flowers

Peter Dinklage continues to steal this show, awesome for him!

HODOR!

^you're talking about Jeor Mormont correct? Definitely another good cast. They made him slightly less old looking but I think it works well.

^^ agreed.

^^^ Glad you finally got to watch

just in case anyone still had any doubts about the book. Obviously he and his publishers confirmed it last week, but I didn't see that he updated the page on his blog until today:

They have a TON of exposition they have to get through before the narrative can really pick up steam, and I'll be the first to admit that it's occasionally clunky and poorly integrated but I'm sure the payoff will be worth it.

^^^^ That is exactly the feeling I had when I finished that book haha. The 2nd half of that book is absolutely nuts. At a minimum I want to get through the events in SOS with this TV show. Obviously the entire thing would be ideal, but if it doesn't go the whole duration I at least really want to get to see that book on screen.

They will never get through all the exposition. Too much stuff in the books.

GRRM switched from TV to books because books allowed him to tell more story. Jamming all the book stuff into the TV show is proving awkward. When you watch good shows, they have time to focus on a few plots and characters at a time to let them develop.

Hell, at this point, I think Spartacus is better than GoT, and that show doesn't pretend to be anything other than cheap thrills.

Spartacus turned out to be MUCH better than the snobs give it credit for. If it were on HBO instead of Starz, it would be award winning.

The one I'm most disappointed in is Jon. I hope they start to develop him better because he was my favorite character from the books.

He's probably the only one I'm disappointed with, actually.

Some of the actors you're supposed to hate, like Joffrey and Jaime. If they were likeable, it would mess up the whole story. They guy who plays Jaime is the perfect douchebag...you just want to punch him in the face every time you see him. And while I hated the Joffrey character at first, his little rant about how he would invade the North endeared him to me at least a little bit, even though he still looks like, as someone earlier mentioned, a mutant Draco Malfoy.

Is it a spoiler to say maybe he's supposed to look like an inbred blond kid? I'm sure it's pretty obvious at this point.

^^^ are you disappointed with the cast or just the development of him so far? I think the cast was good and I think he will get developed more over time. He is also one of my favorite characters in the books, but at the same time I don't remember if that was the case so early in the books. I feel like he became one of my favorite characters toward the end of the first book or into the second season. Hard to remember now though.

I feel like he and Robb should be in each other's roles. I'm still optimistic though.

I don't hate Jamie or Joffrey. I don't think of them at all. They aren't memorable. Joffrey is a joke (child actors...), and Jamie is generic. Jamie's distinguishing characteristic so far is his .... hair? Your characters have to be more memorable to make a great show.

jamie's character isn't really developed until later in the story in the books; you don't really get to see any depth to him until the 3rd book.

SPOILER ALERT - scroll over this post!

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
i'm pretty sure ned gets "in trouble" because he declares stannis to be the true heir to the throne after what he finds out about joff. There is also some discussion about stannis leaving the royal court in order to serve as the lord at dragonstone. i vaguely remember one and one only conversation that occurs between ned and stannis in king's landing, though I can't remember what is said in that discussion
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

END SPOILER

Ghost is definitely in the show; they just haven't done a good job of keeping up with the wolves so far. They said that the younger dogs were hard to work with I guess. Anyway, this is a screenshot from a promo:

Yeah, Roy Dotrice is awesome. He takes forever, but he's really good at it. This other guy's awful though.

There's a chapter that's basically just one long sex scene, and this guy's delivery combined with GRRM's creeptastic writing was almost unbearable. (I'm reading the book, but I had a long solo car ride yesterday so I listened to the audiobook for a few hours.)

ghost appears!

this is a pretty good episode. the show's finally starting to develop its own life...it's maintaining the integrity of the book without simply copying it.
