^I read that too. Apparently the TAMU people meet tomorrow, and they have to officially leave the Big12 before the SEC would extend an invite? I dunno, but I don't think this story is completely over.[Edited on August 14, 2011 at 7:03 PM. Reason : yezzir. read that in the espn comments sections. so could be bogus]

http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=187&f=2639&t=7776950Interesting take from the aTm site. They are basically saying that aTm needs to leave the Big 12-2 before the SEC would formally extend an offer of membership, for legal reasons.Also...http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/6270202/31321422This backs up what the aTm site is saying with regards to aTm getting their stuff in order.Interesting note from the article with regards to expansion:
8/14/2011 7:05:11 PM
Can we talk about the massive conflict of interest this story creates for ESPN?
8/14/2011 7:28:59 PM
OHHH SHITNC STATE TO THE SEC FUCK YEAH
8/14/2011 7:41:42 PM
so who would the possible candidates now be?virginia techuvancstateunc (doubt they'd go)oklahomaoklahoma state
8/14/2011 8:08:58 PM
Might as well put the alien team from Space Jam on that listThey're a more likely candidate than anyone other than VT
8/14/2011 8:12:35 PM
^^^YES!
8/14/2011 8:25:41 PM
I appreciate the sarcasm but why do you think these teams woulnd't be considered. Why is oklahoma state an unlikely candidate if you don't feel like addressing each one?
8/14/2011 8:28:17 PM
wait... possible candidate for what? Its not like the SEC was out looking to expand. That COULD be the case but no one knows that... the only thing we know for sure is that A&M was wanting to join the SEC and they said no (officially at least for now) so who says they are still looking for someone else?
8/14/2011 8:30:05 PM
Radio said it was all about legality and they can't unveil anything until they find a 14th team that the rest of the conference would accept inviting into the league. They said florida and south carolina vetoed the idea of clemson fsu coming into the conference.
8/14/2011 8:32:41 PM
not trolling, just asking: so they said "we cant legally say we want A&M in the league" and then in the same thing said "we are looking for someone to make it an even 14 after A&M" ?
8/14/2011 8:34:45 PM
they being the people on the radio. The reason it came to this is because mizzou allegedly declined to become the 14th sec team leaving them scrambling to find an ACC team.[Edited on August 14, 2011 at 8:38 PM. Reason : tamu and mizzou was a done deal had mizzou accepted it. sec wont go to 13.]

So, is the Big 12 essentially dissolving because Texas doesn't wanna share that $Texas?Cuz that's fuckin' gold, if true.I would love it if that sweetheart deal they struck with ESPN ended up hurting them because they decided to leave everyone else in their conference in the dust.[Edited on August 14, 2011 at 9:17 PM. Can it really be said that we have ever played an SEC team? "destroyed by an SEC team" may be a better description.Actually, from the above scores I guess we didn't do so bad the few times we've played them.[Edited on August 14, 2011 at 8:59 PM. Reason : .]

assuming that "veto" means they were the lone dissenting votes (otherwise they would have said "The SEC voted no") then it sounds like the rest of them didnt give a fuck about adding a potential recruiting competitor to Florida and South Carolina, only those two teams did...but I will agree to let it go, tired of arguing[Edited on August 14, 2011 at 9:03 PM. listening to Barnhart today, who is about as well connected as you get in the SEC and he said that the SEC did NOT vote against A&M. They didnt vote for them either. They basically tabled it for now and said they were going to wait and not make any decision at all right now.He also just said that as of right now, Clemson and FSU are not involved at all in discussions but that could change. And he said he has news about VT and State coming up after the break...[Edited on August 15, 2011 at 10:14 AM. kidding... wasnt really "news", just a good radio tease. Basically just said that VT has a $10 miiiiiiilon dollar exit clause with the ACC so they probably aren't going anywhere now and even if that wasn't around they would have to bring UVA with it and UVA wouldn't want to dumb itself down to the SEC academically. Said that they were the ultimate wine and cheese crowd, even more so than UNC.As for State, he said it kind of made sense, that State is basically Texas A&M east, always getting shit on by another team in the state, conspiracy theories against UNC (and the N&O writers) etc. but that bball is too important and if State started leaning towards leaving that there would be old timers coming out of the woodwork all over the State to protest to save the bball games against UNC, Duke, WF. He did say that people have said ECU would be a possibility but they are too small (although they were second to Boise State in attendance among non-BCS schools which blew my mind)[Edited on August 15, 2011 at 11:18 AM. I wonder how long it'll take for ECU to actually make it into a top conference. I consider it something of an inevitability, although they're kinda screwed by geography (too many Div1a schools in a state that's already easily recruited by any conference that would be interested).
8/15/2011 1:11:24 PM
Then they wouldn't be able to take partial qualifiers that can't get into ACC schools
8/15/2011 1:18:11 PM
i would love to see ecu in the SEC.0-8 conference record from here to eternity!
