actually, depending on the sched of the city plaza shows i might just get the venue wristband and then pick up one of the big shows

keep in mind that kings will be open by that point

Doesn't sound like there's a huge difference between the $85 ticket and the $120 wristband. But, we'll see with the official announcement tomorrow or Thursday. But, totally agree: BSS and Public Enemy make the ticket totally worth it.

lol, I do the same but in reverse.

I have never listened to Okkervil but I grew up listening to Overkill so every time I see it on here I have to look twice.

Merge just announced Record Store Day exclusive 7-inches:

- Picture disc of Superchunk "Misfits and Mistakes" 7" b/w the Meatwad version, all copies signed by Superchunk

- Telekinesis 7" with three new tracks

- Let's Wrestle/Love Language split 7" with a new track by each

I'll definitely be snagging the latter two if I can.

This Sharon Jones has a lot more of the Motown sound than her previous records. Pretty cool to hear them mix it up.

Downloaded that new Harlem record, Hippies, because they're playing at Hopscotch. Pretty damn good sunshiney garage pop. I like it.

i just use the tags and the "hits" and "seeder" headers to find stuff i might not have snagged otherwise

like i like wild beasts so i used "falsetto" as the tag, or liking beach house so use "baroque.pop"

If you guys are looking to boost your ratio, download the Complete Beethoven Edition. I've been getting a pretty steady rate of leechers since I started and its never dropped below 50 kb/s.

Why does Japan always get the best version of albums?

4/4/2010 12:53:59 PM

Because they're super-expensive in Japan, so they add a bunch of bonus tracks to get people to buy the domestic edition. It's usually cheaper to buy an import from the West than it is to get the Japanese version, so they add a bunch of bonus tracks to increase the domestic version's value.

Alright. So I got everything in this 2010 thread, everything in the top 500 albums of all time, top 100 most active of the day, everything in baroque.pop, trip.hop, north.carolina, neo.soul, and finished off most of my discographies.

Can you guys suggest anything that I really need to check out, especially things from before 2009. I'm open to everything but hiphop, emo, mainstream country, or the harder metals.

jchill: If you don't have any King Khan & the Shrines or King Khan & BBQ Show records, get on that shit. Also, both the new Future Islands LP and the EP are pretty sweet.

the Double EP wasn't freeleech, but got the rest.

I just started getting into music/local music last year and just harvested my friend's collection (the one that got me into what) and have constantly been looking for new sounds. I remember the night that I discovered neo soul, lol.

this band, Internet Forever, has a song cover the walls that I like. Check them out.

and also the new Swanton bombs album is meh. The Johnny Foreigner is a good new listen I guess, just to name some new stuff that hasn't been mentioned.

-i also recommend harlem because they RULE
-river city tanlines
-tenement halls
-almost any band on merge you've never heard of has at least one good record...example: GUV'NER "Knight Moves"...i had no fucking clue who this band was, but it was in the $2 bin at schoolkids and it was on merge so i bought it. RULES.

^^^Most of that list is golden. jchill, here are some more since they extended the freeleech to midnight tonight (and because this is fun).

The Stone Roses-S/T
XTC-Black Sea and Dukes of Stratosphear (XTC as a fake 60's band)-Psonic Psunspot and 25 O'Clock
The Pretty Things- S.F. Sorrow
The Kinks-All their records before Preservation Acts 1 and 2
The 13th Floor Elevators-The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators
Talking Heads-77 and Remain in Light
Guided By Voices-Alien Lanes and Bee Thousand
The Replacements-Everything Before Don't Tell A Soul
The Hold Steady-Separation Sunday
Kraftwerk-everything but especially Trans-Europe Express
David Bowie-Low
Nick Lowe-Jesus of Cool
Bob Dylan-Desire (assuming you already have his 60s stuff)
Built To Spill-Keep it Like a Secret & Perfect From Now On
Nuggets box sets-1, 2, and Children of Nuggets
Anything from Olivia Tremor Control, and basically anything from the Elephant Six collective
Wire-Pink Flag
Can-anything especially Tago Mago and Ege Bamyasi
New York Dolls-S/T
Serge Gainsbourg-La Histoire de Melodie Nelson
The Field Mice-Where'd You Learn To Kiss That Way? (Also anything from Sarah Records)
A Sunny Day in Glasgow-Ashes Grammar
The Pains of Being Pure at Heart-S/T
Eric B and Rakim-Paid in Full
A Tribe Called Quest-first 3 albums
Mos Def-The Ecstatic
The Roots-First 4 or 5 albums
Cody Chesnutt-The Headphone Masterpiece (you said you were into neo-soul; this is a great neo-soul record)
ANY NUMERO GROUP COMP
Spiritualized-Ladies and Gentleman We Are Floating in Space & Songs in A&E
The Smiths-The Queen Is Dead
The Byrds-Everything, especially the first three albums and Sweetheart of the Rodeo
Nick Drake-Pink Moon and Bryter Layter
? and the Mysterians-probably just a greatest hits (mostly you just need the song 96 tears)
LCD Soundsystem-S/T and Sound of Silver
The Drums-Summertime! EP
The Magnetic Fields-any of their albums on Merge, especially The Charm of the Highway Strip

All these records are awesome. Some/most of these are pretty essential, so you'll probably have some of them but, hey, if you don't, you need to.
