Bad loss yesterday. Blew a 4-1 lead and then could not get a clutch hit in the late innings despite having runners in scoring positions multiple times. The minute I saw Chavez was coming in the game, I told my wife that the Braves were about to lose. Good job Jesse, you piece of crap.

" ATLANTA -- Jason Heyward vaulted to second place among all National League outfielders, and many of his Braves teammates also improved their positioning in this year's voting for the National League All-Star Game starting lineup.

Heyward has moved to within 8,815 votes of Milwaukee's Ryan Braun, who still leads all NL outfielders, according to the balloting update released on Tuesday. The Braves' 20-year-old right fielder ranked fifth when last week's results were released. "

^ Heyward deserves to be an all star in my opinion. He is hitting 2nd for a 1st place team while being among the league leaders in OPS. I hope he gets in the top-3 and gets to start.

Super shitty way to lose last night. Hopefully Heyward and McLouth are both okay, especially Heyward. That was a bad way to lose. KK pitched well, but once again the Braves bats were silent when he pitches. Can't believe we've lost 2 out of 3 to the fucking D-backs and 3 out of 4 overall. Could have easily won 3 out of the last 4 if not for shitty luck.

^^ Hanson had 121 pitches through 5.1 innings. He had 10 Ks, but just too many deep counts. Brooks Conrad was clutch coming through with a leadoff single, then after Melky failed to get a bunt down for the 2nd straight night in the 9th with a runner on 1st and no outs, Conrad stole 2nd and scored on McCann's hit.

[Edited on June 10, 2010 at 11:15 PM. Reason : ^ they scored 2 in the 7th and 3 in the 8th.]

So as much as Id like to see Chipper get 500 HRs as a Braves I dont see him hanging on for for 71 more HRs, would take 3 years after this season. If he did decided to stay after Bobby leaves I dont see him playing 3rd especially with a new manager coming in that may not be as loyal to Chipper as Bobby is and Brooks given his chances has shown he deserves at least a shot at starting everyday. I would say move Chipper to 1st but what do you do with Glaus if you decided to start Brooks at 3rd? I really dont want to see Chipper go to the AL just to hang on and collect stats.

Chipper has said within the past month that he's seriously considering retiring with Bobby. Considering that and what he said after last year, I doubt he'll be back. It would be nice to see him stick around and be productive for another year or two and lock up a HOF spot, but I don't see it happening.

Brooks Conrad will never be an every day player. He has played well in his starts this year and as a pinch hitter, but much of that is due to the fact that most pitchers do not know how to pitch him yet as he is more or less unknown. If he became a full time starter, pitchers would get scouting reports on him and his production would disappear.

The future of the Braves at 3B is unknown, but I do know that Freddie Freeman will be there at 1B in 2011 or maybe 2012 depending on what happens with Glaus. Most likely the Braves will not be able to afford to resign Glaus after this season assuming he finished around 30 HRs and 100+ RBIs which looks likely. My gut feel is that Chipper plays next year and is the 3B.

I think Chipper is a HOF'er and with the time he's missed because of injuries he'd easily be at 500hr and very close to 3000 hits. He's 3rd all time in HRs as a switch hitter, he's got an MVP, WS ring and what 6 All Star games? Even though I dont think All Star games should be considered a stat when voting on HOF. He's a career .30x hitter. He had I think 9 straight seasons with 100 RBI. But we missed out on Glavine and Maddox hitting 300 wins in a Braves uniform and Smoltz missed out on a chance at 300 wins because of injuries. So this is the one stat I'd LOVE to see a Braves hit in uniform.

^ good point.

Liriano was dominate tonight. Hudson pitched great, but oh well. It was just like the 1991 World Series again without the Metrodome. Great pitching, barely any offense, and the Braves lose by 1 run. Hopefully Lowe will pitch well tomorrow.

Great game tonight. Baseball the way it is supposed to be played. Bobby Cox's decisions in the 8th and 9th were huge. Brought in Venters to strike out Kubel with the bases loaded and then in the 9th, he calls the hit and run with Prado and then the squeeze. People who say baseball managers don't do shit need to watch this game.

Brooks Conrad is my new favorite player. Dude just keeps coming up with big plays.

^ Venters has been outstanding. Maybe they'll give him Reggie Bush's heisman.

Saw this quote on the AJC:

Quote :
"After today they’ll have played 39 of their 64 games on the road, and after today the Braves will still be in first place regardless of the outcome of this series finale against the Twins.

Then they’ll head home, where their .760 home winning percentage (19-6) is the best in baseball. That’s fewest home games, best home winning percentage.
"

Pretty amazing that the Braves have played less home games than anyone else, had a nine game losing streak, Chipper's at a low 700s OPS, McCann hasn't done shit, JJ has basically missed the whole season, and this team is still in 1st. Imagine what could be if Chipper, McCann, and JJ all come back and produce.

"Groupon has a deal of the day that will get you a 30 day subscription to mlb.tv for $5. Just search mlb.tv+groupon and you can find it. I think technically you can buy multiple "subscriptions" and just create a new mlb account each time you want to activate a new one"

The only catch is that any 30-day subscription you purchase must be activated by july 30th. If you bought 2 for $10, you could activate 1 tomorrow and 1 on july 15th, giving you 2 months of service (a $50 value i think) for $10.

^ good deal if your favorite team is not in your TV market. I pretty much get every Braves game now thanks to my sports tier on Dish. Peachtree TV games are the best because there are no commericals, just weird silence and a veiw from a press box while the other team takes the field and warms up.

^^ I live in SC.

Crappy match-up tonight for the Braves. Kawakami versus David Price. Price is probably the front runner right now for AL Cy Young just looking at his stats. 9 wins and the best ERA in the AL. Tampa is not playing that great right now so hopefully the Braves can take advantage of that. The Mets get the Orioles and Indians back to back and the Braves get the Twins and Rays. WTF?

Quote :
"
Chipper Jones likely to address retirement plans today

Braves third baseman Chipper Jones is expected to announce today that he will retire following the 2010 season, according to The Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Jones reportedly will meet with manager Bobby Cox and general manager Frank Wren about his future with the organization this afternoon, then will address the media.

During his 2009 struggles, the 38-year-old Jones hinted that the 2010 season could be his last, but he backed off of that stance earlier this season. However, injuries and a lack of production apparently have caused him to reconsider his plans to play beyond this season.

Jones is hitting .228 with three homers and 22 RBIs in 51 games this season. He has been sidelined recently by a lingering finger injury.

The 17-season veteran, seven-time All-Star and 1999 NL MVP is a career .306 hitter with 429 homers and 1,467 RBIs."

"UPDATE: Jurrjens made his first rehab start Monday, lasting 2 2/3 innings and allowing two runs on five hits and four walks. He struck out four and threw 39 of 66 pitches for strikes.

--
Jair Jurrjens hasn't pitched since April 29, but the right-hander threw a second pain-free bullpen session Monday and could be back as early as the middle of June.

Jurrjens' injured shoulder has held up after three weeks of rest. His return to the rotation may mean Johnny Venters heads back to the minors, and Kris Medlen likely moves back to the bullpen."

-- ESPN Rumors

I really hope thats just ESPN being lazy and when Jurrjens comes back they dont send Venters back to the minors or Medlen to the bullpen. I'd like to see them send Jesse Chaves' bitch ass to the minors and move Kawakami to the pen.

Also, that doesnt look like a great rehab start to me.

^ Yeah there is no way that Bobby sends Venters back to the minors. Chavez would definitely go down unless he has some type of contract provisions that make it hard to send him to Gwinett.

As for the Medlen vs Kawakami debate, I really don't know. Obviously Medlen is the better pitcher, but Kawakami has pitched better of late and I doubt the Braves brass wants a guy making Kawakami's salary in long relief. I have a feeling that JJ may never get back this season though so it may be a mute argument.

ESPN just sucks anymore when it comes to writing anything.

Damn Braves with 4 errors tonight, two by KK. Oh well at least they hit Price which is a good sign for the offense.

I guess Chavez already got sent down to AAA and Chris Resop called up (watching the game right now). So Resop will be the guy going back down or to waivers when JJ comes back.

Yeah and Resop looks like complete shit. Already given up two runs. He sucked the 1st time the Braves had him and he still sucks now. Oh well Braves had no chance in this game from the start.

After watching the Braves leave runners on base or in scoring position what seems like every damn inning I decided to search this statistic. Finally found it and yeap, leading the MLB with 8.1 a game.

Yeah the Braves are still getting a ton of runners on base (highest OBP in MLB), but they just have not been cashing them as much as they could. Last night was a good example. As long as they keep getting runners on base at their current clip, the wins will keep coming.

Matchup tonight of Hanson vs Davis favors the Braves. Hopefully Hanson will give the Braves 7+ strong innings.
